Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gaarryy - 2009-01-14 10:59 AM vivmo - 2009-01-14 8:20 AM My goals for the week: Three trips to the pool One road bike & one trail ride (to prep for the X-terra Off Road Tri) Do my yoga dvd a few times Stay in appropriate heart rate zones while running (when I remember to charge the Garmin) Have you done many X-terra off road tri's?? I think that would be really cool.. I really need to get a mountain bike ...... nice goals,, charge that garmin No off-road or X-terra events yet, Gary. But, I've always enjoyed trail/mt. biking. Where I grew-up we had tons of "mountain" trails so, I am more comfortable on a mt. bike. It's a nice alternative to trying to get around in city traffic for long bike rides...I don't like riding scared. So, I'll do my Sunday road bike and a mid-week trail ride. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jkholden - 2009-01-14 11:12 AM This is my log entry for my swim this morning: 2 times So what do you guys think? Is it more important to settle for the slow pace, be thankful that I can maybe find a comfort zone in the water, and work on building the endurance that I desparetly need, or push harder and try to get those times down. I guess I know that it is just like the bike and run that I need to be doing both endurance work and speed work but it is just so hard for me..... Alright, think I just needed to whine a bit there. Back in the water tomorrow but I haven't written that work out yet. Any suggestions?
Judy, given that I have more pool issues than you probably do take this as moral support: when I've struggled with comfort level in the water, knowing I could do the distance "low & slow" really helped me get over race day anxiety. I think the long swims, no matter how slow, are really important for those of us that wrestle with swim issues! Don't be so hard on yourself...you got through the 300 comfortably

Any suggestions? ok let me understand the times are per 100 meters in the brackets right ?? so the range is 2:07 - 2:27 per 100 meters... which is really like a a 1:57 - 2:17 per hundred yars and that is not that bad.. Being comfortable in the water is important and swimming is all about form.. so I think that what you did today is great for that... you had good balance, felt good in the water which I think is the most important for you now... as long as you are using good form, you will get stronger, better and faster.. |

No. If the times I listed were 100meter times I would be very happy. I swim in a meter pool m-th and a yard pool fri-sun so I always convert my pace to yards for consistency. Swimming w/out pull bouy or zoomers I am about 2:25 per 100 yards. Maybe I should stick to doing sets of 50s and 100s until I get to the point where I can do 10x100 at a more reasonable pace. I can swim close to 2:00 but only 2 or 3 of them and I'm wiped. I think it's also time to have someone videotape me again. |

I'd think that after a quick warm up swim with a few drills, doing some sort of decreasing ladder workout,, 2x200 25 sec break so as the workout is going along and you are getting fatigued you have a sorted set, if you get a chance look around this website it'sthe masters swimming website with lots of great workouts, drills and info

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So after watching The Biggest Looser last night I decided that if those guys can take their shirts off and weigh themselves in front of millions of people on national television, I can take my shirt off and weigh myself in front of the thousands of people here on BT as an added motivator to keep up with my workouts. My plan is to post my progress in my album; I took photos on Jan 1, 2009 and plan to update photos on the first of each month along with weight on the first of each month; I think monthly will show more continuous/consistent weightloss compared to a weekly basis (the stock market is volatile enough, I don't need to see volatility in my weightloss on a weekly basis as well). Don't worry, I posted a disclaimer warning for people before opening the album |

That's commitment, Dave. There's no turning back now. It motivates & energizes me to see people changing their lives...thanks for sharing that with the rest of us. |

No.. usually drills are a bit different than the pull bouy sets,, the pull sets help with proper rotation, while the drills can be for many things, yet I rarely kick while swimming much less doing drills... is there a drill in particular that you were thinking it would take the place of?? |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() is anyone actually having nice weather this week,,, or is it super cold all over still?? I ask since I'm used to having nice weather to train with outdoors, but I have had zero motivation to ride my bike outside lately,, it's been cold but not bad,,, I keep fooling myself that I'm getting a great workout on the trainer, since I don't have stop signs, and other things to slow me down.. |

Sunshine in Seattle for two days in a row with temps in the 40s, so the rest of the country is probably cloud covered and colder. |

Oh yeah, it's 64F and sunny here...oh wait, I'm in my apartment with the lights on. 7f with a windchill of -5F and a high of 18 today. Next season's goal: Find a job in the SW and move to where it's warm. And I consider my trainer days to be good workouts. Better than sitting on my couch all day. Just trying to stir the pot! good thinking,,, there is the whole forum for challenges that many people do.. for S/B/R and weight loss.... usually that is what people are talking of... I'll put some more thought into it.. I know other groups are doing weight loss ones, that seems to be popular... |

We could do anything - swim time increase over 100 meters, we could have teams for 4 to 6 weeks to increase time etc - or just do what we did in college and see how many chicken wings you can eat in 10 minutes - sorry just had to throw that in |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() We could do a percentage of improvement in pace. We can pick a workout within the next week as the base for comparison. We could do this for running, swimming and cycling & then set a date maybe 3-4 weeks from now as the final day. We can update in our daily logs as to progress and after the last date we'll have one winner for each category...... thoughts? |

Like a 5K once a week and everyone post the progress - or a 300 or 400 yard swim that everyone does once a week and post the time?? |
