Pro 5123 Canandaigua NY | Subject: RE: BOYS TEAM THREAD May Swim Challenge Sorry for missing the intro's. Besides traveling friday, I had kind of ignored this thread once the girls found another way to pad their post count! I'm Ken and I live in the Finger Lakes area of NY. Married, plus 2 adult children from my first marriage. This is my 3rd year of triathlons. I joined this challenge as a kick start for my swim training. Missed most of the last 2 months swimming due to being out in southern CA for a work project. Condo I was staying at had a nice olympic size pool, but apparently there must be a prohibition on heating swimming pools as it took 3 100 plus days to get it to a point where it was swimmable in! Any how, back home now and planning on swimming with my master's group this week plus maybe a solo session or 2 at the Y! With any luck, maybe an OWS by the end of the month! Good luck all! |

Master 1989 New Jersey | Subject: RE: BOYS TEAM THREAD May Swim Challenge Hey all, I'm Wally from NJ. Training for my first Ironman - Lake Placid in July. Had a short swim on Friday morning - the first open water swim of the season. Nice "refreshing" temperatures! My year-to-date swim total is just about the max I've ever done in an entire year! cool stuff. I have to say though, I feel the improvement as a result. |

Expert 1099 Broadlands | Subject: RE: BOYS TEAM THREAD May Swim Challenge Hi Guys, And Girls as I know they come on this thread to read decent posts instead of the nonsense padding they seem to thrive on!!! Too busy padding to train, we're going to take this easily. Sorry for missing the intro's have just travelled to DC to do a week long training course and have to miss the pool, although the DC weather means I may be swimming to the office!! Anyway, I'm Dean, I live in Wigan in the UK, making the move from running to triathlon and so far really enjoying it, love the training, actually don't mind the pool as much as I thought and managed to recently get some open water in. Looking forward to getting back to the UK this weekend and getting back in the water. Excellent job for those who have already posted swims, some well over 3000 yds. way to go chaps!! Dean |

SteveyD - I'm steve, university final year student (4 weesk to go ) and i'm graduating soon 2). van paulus - I am Paul , I live In California and this is my 5th season , my triathlon training objectives are to complete Olympic Distances this season , and my challenge goal is to get 12 swim sessions in this month . Ideally 1-2 of these sessions will be OWS at Malibu or Carpinteria . I helped set up a Triathlon club at work and am active with my local running club so I try and train with these groups whenever my schedule allows. 3). I be Philthy, 1TT, or Phil (I can't wait to see what the snoops will do with this when they come stumbling in ). I claim WI as my home state (poor soul) and started my 3rd season of being a triathlete. My first year I did my first Mary, my first tri being a HIM, and then IM WI. I was a glutton. I'm training for IM Moo this year and have a more aggressive goal this time around. I'm married (poor girl) and have 3 sons (poor kids), 2 of whom are on traveling basketball teams. I hope to get my 10 swim sessions of at least 500 yards accomplished prior to the pool being closed starting May 17th (those BASTAGES!). GOOD LUCK TO US!! 4). disturbed275 - I'm Neal. This is my second year of doing tris. I'm training for a mid June HIM right now so my volume's pretty high. I'm trying to squeeze all my yardage in before a trip to Germany the last week of May, something like 24000 yds. 5). Kenny Black - My name is Kenny and I am a Scotsman now living in the desert of New Mexico. I am married with 5 kids (3 girls, 2 boys) and I am in my second year of tri'ing. Last year I completed a several 5k and 10k races, a couple of sprint tri's and my first Oly. Have cut back a bit in the early part of the year as I had a new baby in Dec but getting back into it now. Plan to complete my first mary late in the year and compete in Oly distance in late summer. As for the swim challenge I have a goal of 10 swim sessions in May and I usually do most of my swims with my local Masters swim team at 05:30am......hence the need for a challenge to get my butt out of bed and not be tempted to roll over and hit snooze! Also trying for an "all peachy" May too! 6). I am Rudy aka Rudedog aka Dogg aka whatever else you want to call me. This is my first full season of Tri's and Du's, i started all this back in August of last year, and like many other A+ type personality nutjobs fell in love instantly. I completed two sprints last year, and have 5 Tri's slated so far 2 OLY's and 3 sprints. I have done 1 Du and have one more slated (tommorrow). I live in Southern CT, and am married sans children. Runnning is my weak point, so i keep doing running races and such to try to get better. I usually race inthe Clyde division, and have just moved into the 40-45 age group. Threr may be a HIM in my future, we'll see. Lets go kick girly azzz MEN!!!! 7). I am Kevin, aka Bopper... or whatever you want to call me (just not late for the food). I am starting my third year of triathlon training. First year I completed two sprints, did swim & bike for two other sprints (injury... go figure). Last year I completed 5 tri's (2 sprints, 2 Oly's, 1 HIM) and two run's (an 8km and a Half Mary). I learned along the way that Oly's are about as far as I want to go. This year... I may do 3 Tri's... and I have run an 8k and am doing a 10k this weekend. My weakest event IS the run... followed by the swim (I like the water... just not very fast in it). I am in essence a Cyclist... maybe not for speed but for endurance (I have completed two fund-raising rides of 800km in 4 days in the last 3 years). I am a 44 yr old... joining the next AG shortly... Clydesdale. Husband of 21 yrs... father of 3 wonderful boys... and keep my hands and mind busy as a Engineering Tech at a high end office furniture manufacturer (programming CNC). However, cycling and triathlon have become my obsession. Pleased to meet all of you... time to head to the pool for my first swim of the month. Going to be sweet seeing those feminine assatars come June. 8). Hey guys, Name's Scott. First season of Tri's Competed in my first race in March (indoor) on a dare and won my age group!! Second overall. What a shocker that was. Now I'm completely hooked. Come from a swimming background. Could never figure out why people ever wanted to run when they could swim. Now I love all three disciplines. I'm a dentist, husband, father when I'm not training (which since I decided to do a HIM this summer isn't often.) 9). wkirbytri -- I'm Wes, live in Plano, TX and in my first tri season. I completed my first sprint in March and have a couple more sprints and one olympic on my schedule and hope to finish the season with a 1/2 mary. Married, 2 kids. My goal is 9 swim sessions this month - I didn't see the pool at all last month, so this will be good. 10). Hey Guys: I'm Dave, live in Seattle and this is my first year. I started the year on a run/walk program, but sever shin splints and knee problems had the doctor put me on IR (no running) until the end of May. I've had swimming on my monthly goals list since February, but kept making excuses to not get into the pool, so the challenge is my kick in the butt all the way to the pool. I've got 13 swim session on tap for the month. I have my first tri scheduled for July, so I need to get in the pool and get that base built up. 12). kenj - I'm Ken and I live in the Finger Lakes area of NY. I'm a dentist, husband, father when I'm not training (which since I decided to do a HIM this summer isn't often.) Let's show those Girls how to win a challenge!! 9). wkirbytri -- I'm Wes, live in Plano, TX and in my first tri season. 11). Hi all, I'm Chad. This is my first year of any athletic events since I left college football almost 10 years ago. I'm 30, married, and have a 7m old son. I'm set for 1 sprint this summer, but will be picking up another one soon, and just had a 5K today. I live in South Carolina, but I'll always be a NYer. My goal is 13 swims, and I'll get my first one when I leave work tomorrow morning. 12). kenj - I'm Ken and I live in the Finger Lakes area of NY. 13). runnerx - Hey all, I'm Wally from NJ. 14). dewybuck - Anyway, I'm Dean, I live in Wigan in the UK, making the move from running to triathlon and so far really enjoying it, love the training, actually don't mind the pool as much as I thought and managed to recently get some open water in. Looking forward to getting back to the UK this weekend and getting back in the water. 15). Soloryder (in syberspace) Mike in realspace. I have been on BT since 2005 when I started trainning for my first tri. Swimmer (water polo ) background with cycling second and running as non-existant. I was part of the very first boys vs girls swim challenge back in 2005. We lost then and I hope we won't loose now. I'm looking at a couple longer (5km) swim races this season and hope this challange will help me ramp up the trainning. 16) x_caliber50 - Hello All. My name's Mark. I live outside of Houston in a little ho-dunk town called Katy, TX. I am just comming back form a 3 month illness. I decided to get right back in there and go for my first olympic Tri August 22. So I got a llot of swimming to do. I got to a slow start because my pool was closed Friday. The sign said "low Clorine Levels" i was like "So freaken what!!!" Anyway, I'll make it up with 4 session this week. 17) JJackson- Hey everybody. My name is James, from northern Nevada near Reno. 27 years old, married with 2 young kids. Sorry I haven't chimed in, I was out camping at Wildflower for the last few days. Unfortunately, I won't be able to swim for a week or so as I got into a fun bike crash at my race this last weekend and have some nasty open wounds, the kinds that are usually frowned upon when swimming in a public pool. The good news is that I hadn't set my monthly goal, so I can take this into account. I am going to go with 14000 yards, hoping to be able to be swimming by next Monday at the latest. |

No, I finished it, not as hard as I would have liked, but I finished. Wildflower Mountain Bike Tri, crash was on a dirt trail which was good at the time (didn't get as much road rash), but bad afterward (when I was having the dirt scrubbed out of my palms in the med tent). I was lucky that it wasn't worse and didn't become a huge pileup. |
