With all this chatter about the team being complete and our progress in our running, I was curious when the next team meeting would be.  Considering the race is quickly approaching.

true, we do need to discuss costumes, leg selection, et cetera...

Im still working on transportation, as well. We'll see how that goes.

Also thinking about doing a brick mid-day on Saturday on the Columbia course, if anybody's interested.

I'm most definitely (afraid I couldn't pull of the "mos def") up for a happy hour.  I work in DC so be nice when planning the start... or stay late and let me catch up.

As for costumes, I fear I may be able to pull off cyber nerd better than John McClain.

That is mos def a good idea (you gotta own the lingo Josh; don't be afraid :-P)

How bout if make it a multipart happy hour... group training run at 5pm, happy hour at 6.  We can meet up at 5pm for a run 2-3 times around the gateway loop (2.1 miles per loop) then drive our sweaty smelly selves over to the Pub Dog for happy hour at 6 to get some pizza and beers and talk about the race?

August 20th?  I would like to have a good showing so if August 20th doesnt work for you, suggest some days that do work.

20th works for me... my leave starts that day, so I'll just hang around DC for another day. I'll check with Eddie, Karen and Jimmy as well.

and Josh, don't worry about looking like John McClain, just look like a victim of one of his movies. It's a Die Hard theme, so anything with torn clothing, smeared dirt, and blood will work.

Just wanted to say I'll be in Indiana on the 20th for a speaking engagement.  But please don't cancel just for me.

Hello everybody, I finally got a definite no from my command on the vans, something about negative perceptions caused by gov vehicles supporting blah blah blah. Anyways, we need to reserve vehicles soon, and if I remember correctly the best cost estimate came in at about $25-30 per person. So if anybody is in good with a church group or YMCA or something else of the sort that might be interested in loaning the vehicles to some responsible athletes, let us know.

Happy training,
Shane

Guys--

I think I'm going to have to drop this group race.  Financials and work have come in the way recently.  I hope this doesn't cause a big problem to the team and I'm sure you guys can still kick butt without me.  Again good luck and wishing you guys the best.

Hello all,
Just a quick update.
Got a definite "NO" from Military/civilian motor pool here on Ft Meade in regards to using the Vans.
The issue with insurance and also supporting a non-official government activity.
So, sorry, but i tried to work every angle, just didnt work.

Man, CJ, that totally sucks. I hope everything is alright, maybe things will get sorted out before you have to make the final decision? I am sure we can find somebody to swap in, but we'd really like to have you along for the run/fun if at all possible.

Dude. I just saw this. I can't believe you aren't going to join us in this experience. You were one of the teams founding fathers. I think you should reconsider.

Steve--

I've been back and forth on this a lot the past few weeks.  Considering my work schedule and the money being very thin lately I just can't make the race this year.  Again I hope the best for you guys and hope to cheer you on as much as I can.  Thanks for everyone and being so understanding.

Team - Unfortunately the first check CJ wrote me couldn't be cashed since he wrote it out incorrectly so I don't have any money from him.  We have to find a replacement by August 15th or there is a 10$ drop/add fee.  I did say in my original email that anyone who dropped wouldn't get their money back until the replacement paid and they would have to pay the drop/add fee but that's not going to work in this case... I guess I should have been more persistent on getting the replacement check - my fault.  Everyone do your best to try and find another runner...  They can run one of the "easy" legs and only have to do 12 miles - so it's really not too much for somone who is a recreational runner to ramp up to.

I just wanted to let everyone know where we stand now that CJ has dropped out.

Thanks Shane and Andy for trying to get vans.  CJs still going to help us out with the Enterprise discount so once I get the info from him, I will call around and get 2 vans reserved and let everyone know what the cost is going to be.

Is anyone in for a happy hour at Pub Dog on the 20th?

Consider your arm twisted -- hope that doesn't make your sleeping uncomfortable.

If James doesn't come through, we could also plan to invade the enemy camp and kidnap our original teammate back from them.  Surely the kidnapping motif is consistent with our Die Hard theme.

No, twisted is ok... just as long as it doesn't fall asleep and start feeling like pins and needles...
I don't have to sleep on top of it do I?

Guys - this "Family Member of any employee" discount is SICK!! It's only $57.50/day per van instead of $492.17/day!!!  Talk about a discount!!

That would come out to $258/van or $43/person.  That's not too bad considering the alternative..

Depending on our start time, we should be able to pick up Friday AM instead of Thurs PM but we won't know for sure until we get our start time.  So for right now I am going to assume worst case scenario - that we need to pick up Thurs PM.  Unfortunately we have to drop off Monday AM since the locations are closed on Sunday.

We can talk about all this at the happy hour too but I am going to go ahead and put in for the van reservations now.

I hope everyone's training is going well.  Not to freak you our (or maybe to freak you out) but according to the "Intermediate Ragnar Relay Training Plan" we should be at 45 miles per week right now!

Is that 45 miles a week running or do miles on the bike count?

Has James committed to taking CJs spot?

That's a great deal on the van. Thanks for working on that!!

I'm glad I was able to help you guys out with something.  I felt bad about not participating but I can see this is helping out a TON!

Steve I think bike miles count for SOMETHING!
