Extreme Veteran 335 Herriman, Utah | Subject: RE: Saxobank Hey gang! I'm still here, no worries, it's just been a crazy busy week. I've got a sprint triathlon in 6 hours so I need to hit the hay, but I just wanted to check in and catch up. Admittedly, I'm behind - a bit too much of a taper week for me - but I'll get at least one stage in tomorrow if not two. And then I'll be back in the saddle for the next week-and-a-half before I have to bail on the challenge for a vacation. I will reach 100%, though, don't you go losing sleep over me Great job to everyone else! |

Veteran 369 Fairbanks | Subject: RE: Saxobank Stage Five Went for a 25 minutes bike ride today. Fairly uneventful, probably took it too easy. I'm having trouble with how hard/fast I should go, trying to find a balance between getting a good workout in but not being so tired that it's hard to finish. I also learned another novice lesson today: A friend and I took our bikes to a field, and then I rode hers so I could try out clipless pedals; I'm trying to decide if I want to get them or not. I didn't find them all that difficult or different to ride, and I stopped and started several times to practice using them. No trouble, until I came to a final stop back where she was waiting. I wasn't paying attention, was already thinking about what I was going to say to her about them. As I tipped over sideways I thought "Oh, crap, I need to twist out of these things." Turns out, if you're thinking that as you're falling, it's already way too late. |

Master 1690 Metro NY Area | Subject: RE: Saxobank I find clipless pedals very helpful. I have SPD pedal that are plain pedals one side and have the SPD clip on the other. I always clip in and haven't fallen yet but have felt like I have come close several times mostly hill climbing when I've slowed down and my legs don't want to cooperate. (I'm a slug on hills) I recently got SPD SL pedals and Shimano tri shoes but with my first tri coming up in a few weeks I'm planning on sticking with my familiar and comfy Keen bike shoes and SPDs.
