I just got home from the gym where I managed to knock out my first of hopefully many lifting sessions. I love how weights change my body (for the better) but boy is it the first thing to go when my plate is full!
what am I doing wrong!!?? lifting weights...just wears me out!? |

It's another hot and humid morning in northwest Florida -- SSDD. I have two runs planned for today. First, there is my normal morning run (in case the rest of the day gets gobbled up by life). Then there is the Tuesday afternoon run, and those of you who know me also know that Tuesday is "Torture Dan Day". I have a friend who is a running coach, and he delights in devising exquisite ways to torture me -- last week it was half mile intervals in the 90 degree heat! I have no idea what he has planned for this afternoon, but there is no doubt that I'll be working my tail off! What is everyone else doing today? torture Dan...still lives???? he would have been flattened by me by now if he was making me do what he makes you do! as for me today....I am going for a run...run...run! but not sure that I will be working my tail off...thats thte plan, though! hope your weather cools for you soon! or that Dan takes you to an indoor mall to run! |

OI. sweat fest. it was so dang HUMID. like you JEFF, i enjoy running in the rain! give me trail run on a rainy day and im SUPERFLY. what is it about rain that makes us run faster?? now heat and humidity. NOT SO MUCH. BUT, inspiteof mushy post-race legs and the H&H i could have done without, i BLASTED the bike. fastest ride to date. and for me, coming from an average pace of 12-13 mph, that's sumptin. AND i managed to GET LOST AGAIN on my trail run. LOL. so no, JULEEEEEE you do NOT want to go geo-navigating with me. i SWEAR i get lost in a paper bag. fortunately, i wasnt lost alone this time. i had a friend meandering with me. at one point we started laughing. just HOW MANY wrong turns CAN you take on a trail run??? too funny to be frustrating.... it was to be a 25 min run for me, ended up being a 40 min run for us. that said, weeeee'z sure iz ready for our race come SUNDAY. yahoooo. i have a lots of short, sweet, ever so easy sessions this week, a little swimmy today. a little run tomorrow. then a casual urban bike ride w a group of about 25 people on thursday. were meeting up to ride through the city and then enjoy a drink at this really cool place, down by da riva. we have three to choose from here in the Burgh. ahhhhh. what a DEE-LIGHT-FULL way to wrap up a very long, quiet grueling tri training schedule. ive been building volume since OCTOBER. JULE'S your ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. i HAVE come along way!!! im gonna take this week, and then the next 3-4 weeks to REFLECT on just how far ive come. my time of reflecting includes LOTS of AZZ-SITTING at my favorite VACA spot, HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC. books and drinks in hand. ahhhhh. HHI here i come (8/14 - 8/22) but we'z gots to race first. its all good. stacieb can I meet you for those above dates...I have a great book -and I promise I wont get in the way...will be just like Im not there!!! |

This was my second season of tri's in which my A race was my first HIM. Training now for a half marathon in October. Might get an oly in at the end of August if I can squeeze it in. Okay, enough for now. I still need to figure out my goals! are you following any training plans? I too just started training to run a half marathon in October...help!?!? I meant to let you know the other day that I am using the Hal Higdon Intermediate Half Marathon plan. It's easy to follow and I like it! I'm a few weeks behind but it isn't too much volume that you can't jump in a few weeks late. I LOVE his plans...I used one for the aloha run in feb and am using the same one as you for my 1/2 mary in Nov!! i couldnt agree more MICHELLE. HAL HIGDON ROCKS. NO FUSS NO MUSS NO FLUFF NO RUNNING BS. theres no bells and whistles with his plans, but THEY WORK. HHs just good old fashioned bare-bone essentials, the way running plans are meant to be.
