If it makes you feel any better, I dont have any race experience with Triathlons either.  Ive dont tons of road races in my life, but my first tri will be in May.  I would guess from what you have said, the couch to sprint would be a good plan for you (everyone feel free to correct me if Im wrong), since you haven't got a base of working out to start from.  Personally, if I were you, I wouldnt worry about upgrading your bike until you determine how much you like the sport.  If you find that you really like it and want to do more triathlons in the future, you can alway buy another bike down the road.

I too, am new to BT.  So far I can tell you that your in a good group for knowledge and advice.  There are those of us who are brand new to the sport (but have backgrounds in other sports), those who have completed some triathlons, and then of course those who are really serious.  Best of luck.

Yep- I agree

thats be a great program to follow!  ANd I would not worry about what kind of bike you have for your first tri...just go out there and have fun.  Most likely you will love it and then want to get a road bike (HA- its addictive!!!)

Ask anything you like- I am pretty sure someone in this group will know the answer!

We're not training together yet. I think we will share the misery of getting up at 0530 to get to the Master's Swim that is local to us. We should be able to ride together on occasion, but as for the running, that's gonna be a no go. I will be able to give her some coaching, but we wont be able to run together.

By my calendar, and I haven't ran this by my Coach - Tammy, I have only 8 days of off season left. Bring on 2010 and let's see if we can all accomplish what we are setting out to do!!!

So our Christmas Dinner menu consisted of Mixed Green Salad, Green Bean Casserole, Mashed Sweet Potatoes, Standing Rib Roast and a Bread Pudding to die for.

Well, since you are my coach you tell me what I am doing...

My first race is going to be Galveston 70.3..... I want to PR, won't be hard since my last/first HIM was a 5:54....

I am tired of swimming... Been enjoying the spin bike... Been running, just wish I was faster... Look forward to riding my bike in AZ in January...

Ok, back at it, trying to get ramped up to get ready to start a 20 week plan on January 23rd. I also might decide in the next few days about registering for my HIM in June - price goes up 1/1. I'm probably going to have to modestly violating the 10% rule I think for a few weeks and hope if I'm careful I won't end up injured. The plan requires a 60 minute run in week 1 and I am now running 30 mins. I'm not planning on getting all the way at 60, but want to be closer than 10% gets me.....

Welcome to all the new folks.

So I swam for the first time today.....

I thought I was in pretty good shape from running and what not, but dang. I need to put a lot of work into the swim.

I guess thats why they call it training.

I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Everybody starts somewhere.  I'm sure that the cardiovascular conditioning that you have from running etc, will allow you to make strides quickly with your swimming.  Besides, look on the positive side, day 1 of swim training is complete

I just actually registered for my first sprint tri!Actually 3 - I don't do things in moderation. I'll be doing the Danskin Triathlon - Tempe on May 8th. Prior to that I'll be doing a couple of mini tris with pool swims to kind of get used to the experience. My "official" 18 week training plan starts on Monday -whoo!

Hello and welcome! I also am coming from doing primarily running. I started swimming about 5-6 weeks ago. I picked up the book "Triathlon Swimming Made Easy" This is also on the "Total Immersion" site. It's very simple and easy to follow.
