.X2 on Bonktown ...

Also, do any of you do core workouts during the week?

make that x3 on bonktown

When I actually follow my training plan, I will do core work 3-4 times a week. Usually after a run session or incorporated in with weight training. I just follow the core stuff that is laid out in the BT training plans.

I just finished a 12 week cycle of P90X but rarely did that Ab Ripper out of sheer hate for it.  Now that I'm running again and swimming, I feel I'm getting a decent core workout.  I'm still doing 2/3 strength workouts per week...some at home with P90X and others in the gym.  I attempted the 100pushups thing between rounds of P90X and got up to 78 max.  I know for a fact I can do at least that many right now...I'm willing to be I could probably crank out 100.

My training is suckilicious right now.  Swim is still rough but I'm adding a third day with no pressure/coach and I haven't even been on a bike in a week.  But the good news is we're in the 40's and 50's over the next week...I'll be getting some long rides in.  On the upside, I'm getting 15-20mpw running now.

"Ab Ripper X  I hate it, but I love it!" - Tony Horton

Chris you made me think of this when you said you hate ARX.  The start of the DVD starts out with Tony saying that and it is the most true statement ever!   I just got back from the pool and did ARX and my core is a hurtin' big time right now!

So how is everybody else doing with training this week?  I did a run this morning and a swim this evening. I did the run in shorts with a long sleeve shirt and felt great.  It was 62 degrees?  Amazing how crazy this weather has been.

I hope every one is doing good!

I went to track night on Tuesday. I'm not sure what else is in store, but this weekend I need to do 16 miles.  I may have to do it alone since most people here are racing the rock n roll half and full marathon on Sunday.

What is everyone's shoe status?

Do you buy the same pair year-in, year-out? (Same brand, same style)
Are you brand-loyal?
Do you switch it up each time you need a new pair?

Great timing with this question. I try to stick with the same shoe model, but lately, I'm considering a more minimalistic shoe. I want to try on a pair of Nike Free 5.0, but I can't find a store that stocks them.

I'm a big fan of Asics.  Currently the style I am using is the 2140's.  I have used the Nimbus and Cumulus style but actually like the cheaper 2140's!

For my trail running I use Salomon XT Wings and they are very comfortable.

I have been thinking of trying out some Newton trainers, but like Chad, they are hard to find and are pricey ..... Has anyone used Newtons before?

It's funny that you say that because I will probably go with a pair of Frees next time too.  I tried some on and they're light as air and have no heel to speak of.  The thing holding me back is that I have 2 brand new pair of Mizuno stability shoes that I need to chew up first...that'll probably take all year.  Nike Frees are cheap but the downside is they probably wouldn't last much longer than 200 miles or so.

I had my longest ride to date today and also first group ride.  We went 28 miles (half of my HIM ride in late September) at a 17mph pace with a couple of stops to let people catch up.  I wasn't the fastest but surprisingly enough I wasn't the slowest either.  I definitely could've pushed up the intensity and taken no breaks so I'm encouraged by that.  I have a 10K tomorrow and I hope I have no ill effects from this ride.  I'm pacing a buddy to a 52 minute run (qualify for another 10K) so it shouldn't be terribly difficult.

Swimming is still something less than spectacular.  Coach pointed out at the end of the lesson that I am waiting 4 or more strokes to breathe so I plan to breathe every left stroke on saturday or sunday.  In spite of that I still swam a 2:00 100yds which isn't terrible I guess.

My local bike/tri shop is having a 20% off sale on everything tomorrow.  Anything I should pick up (don't say tri bike...can't go there yet)?  I plan to get a bottle and cage and a spare set of goggles.  Maybe a trisuit if something fits and is cheap enough.

Group rides will make you faster. That's a fact.

I definitely recommend breathing every 2 strokes. I switched from 3 to 2 last season and it's a world of difference. I'm not sure if you can breath on both sides, but try alternating which side you breath on with each lap. It's not crucial, but it is something to shoot for one day.

If you're looking to spend some money then spare goggles are a great idea. I've never been into trisuits. I just wear trishorts and a tritop. You can always use a second or third pair of tri shorts.

I use both the fish oil and glucosomine, along with some flax oil. I'm feeling good.

From what I gather, there are new items appearing every ~30min or so, both men and women's clothing are appearing. The whole point, I think, is to keep checking back for something that you want to appear.

OUCH -- Did the P90X Ab Ripper X DVD after my trainer ride today.  I forgot how darn painful ARX can be - can't wait to do it again!

Here is a simple question. How do you post your pic in the forums.

When posting a reply you can check the box at the bottom that says attach a file after posting. After you click submit it'll take you to a page where you browse for your image and attach it to your post.

Do you mean next to your username? You have to upload a profile pic.  Click on Settings at the top of the page. Then Account Settings > Profile Image. Select a picture from your hard drive and let it upload. That should do it.

Hit the road again today. Felt a little low on the energy again, but after my first mile @ a 9:11, I hit my second mile at a 7:40:29. My fastest yet. Why does it feel like I'm not moving that fast?

okay ladies and gentlemen, I'm new to this tri sport. What can I expect for my first tri ? Be honest about the water, transitionsand so forth. And if you can take my hand and guide me in nutrition and anything else I'll run with it . Thanks partners.

First tri, eh?  Well, plan your transitions carefully before the race. Mentally step through each thing you're going to take off and put on. Don't put any choices in your transition area. Decide before exactly what you'll wear on the bike and on the run. This will help calm you down during transitions.
On the swim, find a rhythm. On the bike, ride it like you stole it. On the run, go get that finish line!

Finally, we want a race report when you're done. Laughing

I rode 90% of the bike course of my May Oly and man was it tough!  Tons of hills and lots of traffic...got scary as the sun went down.  Definitely my strongest performance on the bike to this point, averaged just shy of 18mph.  I'll have to be over 20mph on raceday and I have no doubt that I'll get there.
