Sprint_DA - 2010-02-01 10:30 AM So, what is everybody's goal for February?  I really hope to be feeling strong on the bike by the end of the month, plus have started stretching out my runs a little bit.

My feb goal is swim 3x each week and start actually run and road test my new shoes.

February's Goals.

1) get rid of this silly head cold.
2) commence intervals in the pool. (Burn baby burn)
3) get my bike times completely under me. (A time that would definitely mean I did the distance of the Olympic and some)
4) maintain and build my run times. (length of time)
5) Laugh a lot and have fun with my family. (This should be #1!)

Take care and see you online if not in the pool, or on the bike, or on the trail. He, he, at least I find myself funny....

Hey Group,

We are getting a major snow storm...I did make it to the gym for a run, before the digging out begins tomorrow.  Sunday I start swimming, I hope it isn't with polar bears..Surprised.  Enjoy your weekend everyone

Dan, I am ready to move either south or west.  If I want to be in the snow I want the option to leave.  The snow is interfering with training!  How is everyone's training going??

Dan I am looking at aero bars for my road bike, any recommendations on the type?

I liked my Profile Design Stryke's.  I'll take some pics today and post them.  I'm not using them right now if you end up being interested in them.

Hey Chaps.
Been away again but am here again !
Been to gym last 2 days, I did some single leg drills as suggested before and i think it seems to be the problem is my left foot. It pronates a bit at the bottom of the spin . .
Suggestions?

Another snowfall is upon us in Maryland. They are saying approx. 18-20 more inches...OUCH!  This is not fun anymore, using shoveling snow as a regular workout.

Whato, I hear Vancouver is not getting any snow...You can have all of ours!  How's your training??

Dan,  what supplements are you taking?  I am taking EAS whey protein shake after my workouts...seems to help recover.  Mixing it with blueberries, yogurt and juice, also use it as a snack.

Very warm winter! We actually have the spring flowers out in the yard. However, Whistler has a bunch of snow, which is where a majority of the skiing/snowboarding is happening. The local mountain has also most zero snow and it has only a couple of events. Although, they have enough snow for the events they're holding. It is getting very busy and the town is getting all exercised about it all. I can sense two gold medals in the hockey

Training is going well. Very tired today, worked really hard. 42 mins in the pool with intervals and then 1.5 hours on the bike. Had to have a 20 min nap in the afternoon.

Take care,
Whato

I generally drink a protein shake after a really tough workout, a multivitamin, and magnesium.  I don't know if any of it actually helps, except the magnesium which keeps my legs from feeling like they're crawling after really tough workouts.

Ok...this has taken forever to get up, but this is a quick mock-up of what my aerobar setup used to be on my road bike, plus one of just the bar. I need to clean them up a bit, but this gives you an idea.

The only issue I ever had with my road bike with aerobars was that I was a bit too stretched out.  The distance from my seat to my bars on the road bike is much longer than the same measurement on my tribike.

They look great...I had the stem on my bar shortened.  I don't believe I will be stretched out.  LBS did a fit for me, recommended going with a shorter stem so I could use aeros.

Thanks for the pics and infor on supplements. Let me know if you want to part with them

I hope you all were able to watch the opening ceremonies for the Olympic Games tonight.  I don't know about you guys, but it really has an effect on me.  I want to make sure that my training is harder and better so that I'm able to raise my game to the highest level I'm capable of.  Watching this is making me rethink my goals for the year.  I'm lucky this year, my local race is THE US qualifier for Short Course Triathlon Worlds.  Now I'm considering turning my focus completely to excelling at the Sprint distance so that I can take the trip to Budapest, Hungary in September and represent my country for the race.

That is awesome!  I want to just complete one sprint and finish well for my AG, or respectable.  What times are you looking at for being able to qualify?

Another question for ya...looking at bike trainers, is there any one that is better than another?  Thanks

If I were going to buy a trainer right now I would make sure it's a fluid trainer...they're better than magnetic trainers.  I would buy a Kurt Kinetic.  The Kurt has a good flywheel and has good resistance.

If money were no object I would buy a computrainer or Tacx fortius trainer.

To qualify I have to finish top 18 in my AG.  But I think the field is going to be TOUGH this year.  QC Tri is the only US qualifier for this race.

Thanks Dan, I wish money was NO object, I will check craigslist.  Just ran my goal for Feb. 6mi.  Felt good so decided to keep running.  Need a new goal for March...maybe 7mi??

That's a goal in itself, just being able to race at that level...When is the qualifing race?
