How am I supposed to train in Galveston for hills? Conroe, Montgomery hilly? Or slight rollers? I don't know the exact roads, but think (Montgomery, tx) 149 up to Richards, most likely over to Anderson, and back down. Ironstar bike course is the same area, although there are a few choices in roads, so we'll have to wait and see which ones are used. lots of rollers. |

Easy to train up there though. Even if not on the same roads, similar ones in the area. |

Member 66![]() ![]() The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas : Official ThreadHey all...this morning in The Villager, weekely Woodlands newspaper has article on the Ironman that states: Steve Meckfessel (WTC COO) announced the swim will begin in Lake Woodlands, at northshore park finishing in Town Center..(this info we did know) Article continues... Athletes will then head out on a 2-loop, 56 mile bike course that will take them west through the woodlands before heading norht and northwest out through Dacus and Dobbin out to Richards before returning back to transistion. The online version below is a bit different than the printed version, which is what I posted above.. http://www.hcnonline.com/articles/2010/07/01/woodlands_villager/news/wv-n_township_cc_0624.txt Edited by IUScott99 2010-07-01 8:12 AM |

Elite 2706![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hurst, Texas | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas : Official ThreadI may be completely ignorant here, but looking at Mapquest directions from the Woodlands out to Richards it is close to 56 miles by itself, so if that is really where it goes it seems it would have to be a one loop course, not two. |

Extreme Veteran 479![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas : Official ThreadIf it goes up to Richards/Anderson, then it would only be a one loop deal (and more scenic). Going to Dobbin it would be 2 loops, but it might be easier for traffic reasons since you would be on 105, which is wider. I ride these frequently, and they are all good routes. Short rollers but also plenty of opportunity for speed. Edited by hathecr 2010-07-01 8:46 AM |

Member 66![]() ![]() The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas : Official ThreadI just report what I see! LOL I just moved down from Chicago a year ago, work from home so I dont really get out and about much, so the towns it states in the article could be 5 mins away or 2 hours away, and I would have no clue. As like most of you...I would much prefer a 2 loop bike and a loop run. I think it's easier on the mind knowing that you are never that far from "home". Happy Fourth Everyone!! Expert 2547![]() ![]() ![]() The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas : Official ThreadI just did a quicky route on BT (I think I called it Ironman TX estimate if you want to look at the roads). I didn't start exactly at transition and didn't include anderson (a few more hills), but all signs are pointing this area. my route is only 91 or so, but you get the idea. I put Longhorn elevation next to this course elevation, and you can see that it isn't exactly a flat course. Getting out of the saddle will not be optional in some sections. Also, if you are thinking of riding this course this weekend or something I need to tell you that where fishcreek hits 2854 is under contruction. You will need to cut over to honea egypt just before that to get to 2854... anyway, see attached. (elevation compare.jpg) Attachments ---------------- elevation compare.jpg (53KB - 29 downloads) |

Extreme Veteran 479![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Woodlands, TX | Subject: RE: Ironman Texas : Official ThreadComing back down 105 from Dobbin to to 2854 will be a slight incline almost the whole way. Then, when you turn back onto 2854 from 105, be prepared for a serious burn on the legs. That will hurt after 70 miles or so of riding. |

Especially since IM bike mile 70-80 was pretty much the time when the demons started entering my head, and the "can I really run a marathon after this" thoughts start creeping in as well. Nothing like a true gut-check of a hill right at this moment. How long is that climb? Should be interesting, and fun in a sick kind of way. |

Should be interesting, and fun in a sick kind of way. It's about a quarter mile. I checked the grade on Map My Ride for that section & it showed it topping out at about 10% - 11%. No idea if that is accurate, but it is steep. The good news is that it is fun going the other way. |
