pdbman - 2010-10-30 10:11 AM My parents spent a couple of years in Malawi and didn't like it. I think they missed their conveniences too much. I think it would have been a great experience.


My PhD supervisor is living in Malawi right now. I wouldn't mind going over there too. Africa isn't for everyone though. Me, I felt right at home almost straight away though.

My parents got to know a lady from Canada that has been living most of her life in Malawi. She runs an orphanage for kids with HIV. Now she has it and isn't doing very well. I feel bad for all those kids that won't have a home when she dies.

My mom's best friend actually does live in a zoo.

I had a friend in middle and high school whose mother was a zoologist.  I would go over there and they were raising leopard kittens.  They also had bassett puppies, a boa constrictor, mice to feed the boa (a regular event in the middle school was to bring in boa on feeding day so we could watch it swallow a mouse whole), and a couple of exotic birds. 
I could sit on the floor and literally have a leopard kit on one hand nibbling a finger, and a bassett pup on the other one doing the same.
