Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jenny, So sorry for the loss. As any parent knows, once you have a child you send a piece of your heart out into the world and lose all control to the bumps it takes as your child learns about life. It is hard to explain death and loss to children.
I spent the morning on 60 minutes of biking in preparation for my bike race next weekend. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I did this race last year although it was a different course. I feel more prepared this year, but still get the butterflies. That is part of the thrill, though! I am fiddling with my bike fit because my hands and wrists are causing me trouble. I don't have a reliable LBS so I work on it myself which is dangerous I know. This race is self supported and the course is a country highway with some road debris. Has anybody ever really changed a flat during a race? Janette |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I haven't personally changed a flat so I can't help you there. How long is your race again? I know people can change tubes in around 5 minutes so it's doable during a race. Try youtube-ing some videos on how to change tubes so you can get a visual idea of how to do it. |

I can't even begin to imagine how the mom feels - to lose a child who is so young must be unbearable. My sincerest condolences go out to her family and your community. X2. So sorry to hear that. Nobody should have to deal with something like that... |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hoping to use the Timex method for counting laps tonight...I'll let you know how it goes. Also, my 5yo daughter just climbed into my lap as I'm typing this message, and she wants me to say hello to everyone. So hello from Lauren! Oh, sorry about that. Hello from Miss Lauren (as she likes to be called when she's pretending to be a teacher...)! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey guys.... I'm looking for a little feedback. I'm in the process of getting everything legally set up for me to officially begin my coaching/fitness "business". My original name (as you might have gathered from the forms I sent you ![]() FYI, I'm hoping to get the coaching end of things up and running ASAP, but the ultimate plan is to open an indoor cycling/group fitness studio with coaching as one of the services available. I plan to use power-enabled "spin" bikes (plus some trainers for those who prefer riding their own bikes) and for-see offering a series of power-based classes next winter for cyclists/triathletes (as well as more traditional "spinning" classes for the general fitness crowd). So, I'm looking for a name that would work for both the coaching & indoor cycling aspects of the business. So... what do you think -- Does Forward Momentum work? Anybody else have any great ideas?? ETA - another thought.... what about "Power2Endure" - or is that too cutesy?? Edited by jsnowash 2012-04-13 6:12 AM |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My only concern with "Forward Momentum Fitness" is that it might not necessarily let potential clients know right away what your studio is directed towards (spinning, cyclists, endurance athletes). I kind of like power2endure because it does make an inference to that. I'm not very good/creative with coming up with names but if you'd like I can name a couple cycling studios here in Toronto to maybe trigger some potential ideas? Let me know. On another note, my right knee is still sore and I'm not sure if it's a result of my bike fit, my running or both. Today is supposed to be a lighter day for me but I really wanted to get some good long workouts in this weekend. Anyone have any thoughts? I was thinking of doing an epsom salt bath tonight but aside from that should I ice/heat? |

Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() In terms on potential company names, I would first think about your potential client base. Who's your target audience? If it really focused on tri and endurance athletes, the power2endure is a good name. But if you hope to abroaden your appeal to a wider audience, ie. folks who want to get/stay healthy, then a more tri specific name might not be the best. In other words, the average person is more likely attracted to a 'fitness' type studio than an power2endure type name. All that said, I like the power2endure name too. What about something simple like InFitness? You could use InFitness as the brand, and then InFitness spinning and fitness for one audience and also InFitness endurance coaching for the other. In this way, each set of customers sees what they want to see. |

I don't have a reliable LBS so I work on it myself which is dangerous I know. This race is self supported and the course is a country highway with some road debris. Has anybody ever really changed a flat during a race? Janette Janette, First thing is to check to see if your seat is level. Even a tiny bit of nose-down will cause you to slide off the seat, thus holding yourself up with your hands. Second-If the 'knife' edge of your hands (pinky side) are hurting, then you may have to move the brake hoods on the bar (it's not to hard). Third-if the actual 'grip' on the hoods is hurting a) your hand near base of thumb or b) the thumb itself; this can be remedied by rotating the bars up/down in the stem to distribute pressure better. And lastly....lighten your grip. You should be thinking 'piano playing' with your fingers, not Death Grip! PM me if you want me to talk you through it. Good Luck! jeff |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Jenny: I think Forward Momentum Fitness is kind of a mouthful. If it is a workout location, I think you want something that can be shortened or abbreviated as in, "I'm headed out to the Y for that killer spinning class." I like Power2Endure and InFitness. How about The Sweat Lodge! JayCee: My race is 49 miles so I watched the you tube stuff for speed changing a tire yesterday. I won't be speedy, I'm sure. It was ironic because this block I follow (http://www.shutupandrun.net/) just so happened to have the funniest post yesterday about flat tires. I don't have CO2 cartridges, but just a little hand pump. Should I invest in those? I hear they can be pretty tempermental in wet and cold. Jeff: Thanks for the advice about fit. I find that my hand goes numb just below my lower thumb joint in the pad and down into my wrist. I think I am too stretched out. I rolled my handlebars up just a smidge, but I think I need to also move my seat forward a bit. I really wish I had access to a LBS! I added a 45 minute swim yesterday. Still working on turning only my neck out of the water and not my shoulder. I still have plenty of drag .... Spent my morning workout on a 60 minute spinning class. The weather is beautiful so I am thinking about some running shoes later this evening. My 5 y.o. has decreed that he will be joining me because he is "SuperMan Fast" on his scooter. Should be entertaining! Janette |

Of course it's hard to say what the issue might be over the internet..... Looking at your logs I can see a couple of possible culprits - I see you noted you "pushed the pace" during your run a few days ago, and also that you noted that you tried to push a bigger gear on your most recent trainer ride. It could be that one of those things caused you an issue, but it's hard to say for sure. Bike fit could be part of it too. Which part of your knee hurts? If your saddle is too low it might cause some knee pain... Ice is always good for soreness. You can try alternating heat/ice (about 20 min each) - but end with ice. You might want to take it a little easier (especially on intensity) for the next couple of days and see if it feels any better or worse. Often these kinds of aches resolve with a little rest. Better to ease off a little now and let it get better than to push too hard and make it worse. Good luck! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Janette - re: flat tires - fortunately I've never had to change one in a race (knock on wood...) Have you changed a tire before? If not, and if it will give you peace of mind for your race, you might want to practice beforehand. I would suggest carrying a spare tube & a CO2 pump (quicker than a hand pump). I have carried this in races (like fix-a-flat for bikes) but have never actually used it. I figure if it works, it would save a chunk of time trying to change a tube... And I'm a little confused about your comment about turning your head to breathe while swimming. Your head should be more or less in line with your upper body. As your torso rotates, your head rotates out of the water and you take a breath. Not sure if I'm explaining it very well.... I think this video probably explains it a little better..... Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Power2Perform...I like it - it's a good name. Power house doesn't convey what your company's mission is as well as P2P. You can use p2p for a variety of audiences - fitness/general and endurance/tri athletes. |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() jsnowash - 2012-04-13 5:47 PM I like P2P as well. The knee pain is on the inside of my knee just above my knee cap. I'm thinking I need to do some strengthening exercises.I dont think I pushed the pace too hard on my run but the biking might've done it. I am flat footed so I wonder if that's contributing to it. I think I do need to revisit my bike fit as well. I am icing it now and as much as I was looking forward to getting in some longer workouts I think I need to ease off over the weekend (light run, bike and maybe some swimming) and hope the soreness subsides. jaycee6 - 2012-04-13 9:48 AM Joey - how long has your knee been bothering you? Often if you key in a less than sign, followed by a P, followed by a greater than sign, this is HTML code for a paragraph break. I'm trying that now. Now to go to my laptop and see if it worked. Member![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the iPad help! I went out for a run this morning and what a great day it was. Same 9.3 mile course as I did on Wednesday and I beat that time by 2 minutes. The weather was fantastic, low 50s (10 degrees C for our Canadian friends), blue sky and a slight breeze. Couldn't have asked for better conditions. I don't want to increase my mileage too quickly, but felt as if I could have easily run another 2-3 miles at the same pace. hopefully my biking tomorrow will go as well. Hope everyone is having a great weekend! |
