I don't know why sex is held in such high regard.  I do think it's more of a Western ideal.  I was over in Spain when the Clinton-Lewinsky ordeal was going on.  The Spaniards thought it was hilarious that the American's were making such a big deal over an affair.

Obviously, Hillary has the ability to forgive and move on.Wink

Kiddo offers up the scenario of "getting tipsy and making a mistake", one time, and asking forgiveness.  What if a person got drunk and hit the other person, one time?  Both situations are caused by underlying issues, some the same, some different.  Both caused pain.  Are they equally forgivable?

It's an interesting topic...

I heard a story that a woman was SO possesive that her man, when going out to get groceries, had to call when he got there, call when he was leaving, COULD NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, use a female cashier.  Give hugs to ANY females, no matter how long he knew them, and on and on.

Then other relationships where if he she came home and had a girl in bed, she would jump right in with them.

And of course everything in between.  So fidelity is defined individually.

I'm confused.  Cuz I asked that if it happened, and that was communicated and you both had hope for forgiveness and change...  Then stay together or divorce?

Or once the act of cheating has occured, it's beyond repair?  All the problems leading up to it, if there is neglect, or taking advantage, etc.  What if someone "cheated with work, or a hobbie, or booze, or drugs or gambling.  That can all be fixed with communication if both people want it?  But the second SEX is involved, then it's crossing a line that you can't come back from and it's automatic divorce?

Funny, I think I could work through infidelity before, say, I found out she cashed in our savings and spent it on drugs.

Why is sex held so high and mighty?

I'm just asking.  I don't care either way on the issue.  Different strokes for different folks.

I think the real issue is that trust has been violated. That can occur in all manner of ways - cashing out savings would seem to me to be a huge violation of trust.  For many once trust is gone it is gone and cannot be regained. That is not true for all but I think that's at the heart of some of what folks are saying here. I think you are right when you say every situation is different - if only for the simple fact that different people will be involved who hold different views on many situations.

And I know am I new to this group so apologize if the input isn't appropriate for whatever reason.

No, it's welcome.  We like everyone's input.  Jump in any time!

Great point...

I think that hitting was out of the question.  And I have never done it.... But I tell you what, I have shaken the crap out of a insane girl once (and SHE was drunk throwing dishes at me!)

But maybe yeah.  If the situation was "the perfect storm" and someone hit someon, I think there is always room to get past it.

And if my wife was drunk and hit ME, I would chuckle!  She punches me in the stomach all the time.  But if I knocked her in to next week, that's different.

One other thought here is that until any of us are in, or have been in,  one of these situations this is mostly all speculation. We can rationalize how we should react but when it comes to it our actual reaction may be very different.

I said that several times ^^^^^^^^^

Also, I know several people that things like this have happened to, so they would probably be faster to come to certain conclusions than people that are dealing with it the first time.

I just play the "what if" game to kill time on runs/walks.

What sorts of plans?  For world domination?

Yep, counted up my WMDs, now I need to count my sharks with lazers on them.

I don't know what quantity take offs are but it does sound painful.

Everyone should have a plan for world domination stashed away somewhere.

My boss came in to tell me that he has been staying late till 10 and then getting in early...

I wonder if it was meant to make me feel bad?  Cuz it didn't work.

I don't own the company and they only put me on part time and probably will get rid of me when the big project is over.  So I have NO problem getting here at 8 and leaving at 5.
