First week of build went well and enjoying the change of pace. I used the Fink intermediate plan in 2010 and was very happy with the results. This year I'm going with the competitive plan and trying to step it up a bit. All good at the moment but ask me again when it hits 19+ hrs a week! We'll see.

Just saw a post from the Ironman Louisville Facebook page and they hinted at a change in the run course. Apparently they won't have access to the 2nd Street bridge so they have to adjust the route. Fine with me as that was the only hill on the course. They reassured the finish line is still at 4th Street Live and mentioned more details regarding the changes in a few weeks. Kevin

Finally registered this morning.  This will be my very first Ironman and I wanted to get a few weeks of training completed before I spent all that money.  I'm so excited to cross that finish line!

I am planning on it. Haven't signed up yet though. The wife wants me to wait until after my HIM in May.

Signed up in Nov 2012. Just off IM Galveston 70.3. This will be my first full and looking forward to the opportunity. For once it appears that training in Louisiana heat and humidity may have an advantage. I have been riding the course on computrainer real course video.  I believe it is pretty accurate in regards to elevation. There are a few nasty climbs in the first turnout(HWY 1694) section but looks like some really good shade in that part.  The bridge that is referenced in the youtube video looks pretty rough on this video as well.

Stuck under a rain front all day today and most of tomorrow here in Middle TN. Looks like my scheduled 2 hour bike ride will be on the Vomitron (indoor trainer) I think revamping my tri bike to a SRAM X9 mountain bike derailleur and a 11-36 cassette is the best decision I have made for this race. I've been testing it on the hills around my home and it makes for leg saving, easy spinning while still giving me enough gearing ratio to not spin out the downhills and to maintain a good cadence on the flats. I've been reading race reports from past IM Lou's and I've come to the conclusion that pacing and nutrition are the key elements to Ironman. Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Weather is sucking here in the South, races have been getting canceled this weekend. People racing tomorrow are racing in the understanding that they could be racing in a downpour. I caught that illness that has been going around and have been in bed the past 2 days. I'm freaking out a bit since I am racing Florida 70.3 in 2 weeks but I am trying to tell myself I have a big enough base built up that I will be ok

I'm finally getting around to booking a hotel.  I have a dog so I'm a bit limited.  The Sheraton across the river allows pets.  Has anyone stayed here druing race week?  Any thoughts on this hotel or any ideas of other, pet friendly places to stay?  There is a place right on 4th St, but I'm thinking that will be a little too chaotic...

I'd appreciate any ideas/thoughts/opinions!  Thanks!!

Happy training!

I stayed there in 2008 in my first attempt at Louisville and just booked my reservation again. It is really convenient and is just across the river from transition. Traffic and parking were never an issue for me or the support crew!If you book a club room, daily breakfast is included.

Does anyone know the current number that are registered?  You used to be able to see it on active.com but that link is no longer there.  What is the capacity for this race?

jkintn - I believe the race is capped at 3000 (it was last year).  I couldn't find the exact number registered but they have a participants list on the IM Lou web site.  Looks like about 2500 registered based on the list.

Good to hear - I ended up booking as all the other pet friendly hotels in the area were booked or very far away.  All right, one more thing crossed off the to do list!

Signed up last week. Will be my first full. One of the main reasons I signed up this year is because I have about 8-10 friends from the Nashville area doing the race and several more going up to support. Initially wanted to wait until 2014 but moved it up to experience it with friends. 12 weeks to go.

I understand it's the heat and humidity, never heard it was related to the swim course. Swim course seems pretty straightforward, what have you heard?

The one thing I've heard about the swim is that the water is... I guess pretty gross and polluted. Take your breaths carefully and try not to ingest any water. If you do drink the water, you may be paying for it later on in the race.

I did a tri on the Indiana side of the river this weekend. That is literally straight across from the IM swim. I didn't see any pollution but it was dirty with silt and mud. Yes, plenty if fish too. The other noticeable thing was current, very strong due to rain the previous days. I don't think this is normal for August however. I wore tinted goggles and was fine. I'm a weak swimmer but honestly I have no concerns looking forward to August after my experience Sunday.

So I have been bouncing back and forth between doing IMKY and Rev3 Cedar Point. I live in Akron, OH so Cedar Point would be about $600 cheaper, but there is nothing compared to an IM event. I would love to stay in the host hotel, but if I go to KY I think I'm going alone Can anyone recommend any hotels near the race that would be 5-15 minutes away under $100? I did IMLP last year and we stayed 11 miles away. It didn't bother me to drive back to our room, but having a hotel right at the end would be awesome. Come on people! I'm looking for excuses to go to KY! My bday is a few days away from IMKY so that would be one hell of a celebration! I can't make up my mind and want to decide by the end of this month

You need no excuses! Go for it! Sounds like you really want to do it and as they say, you only live once!

I fly from Korea for this event...imagine my motivation level

I found Hampton Inn for 150$ so probably you want something else but I have seen MANY options on booking.com on the 100$ range which are 10miles away or so

I drove part of the course today since I was near there. I was out near La Grange, Old Sligo Rd, miles 55-70 or so, and the out and back. Yea, the out and back is a decent climb but its nice and shaded. Like everyone says there are lots of rollers overall but plenty of places to really fly. There was another longer climb around mile 60 or so but not anything like the out and back. Yea, not much shade or protection if the wind is strong, sadly. Overall I was a bit relieved because if you pick your spots to push the pace you can have a fast bike. That was my first impression anyway, will ride it soon.
