Thanks for the Info! I will definitely be sure to apply sunscreen now. I could see myself being very red by the end of the day.

Who else is starting their taper this week? My body and mind are very happy that I get some extra sleep and don't have to wake up at 3:30 any more.

One more week of bigger volume, then taper time for me. We're getting close!

It's amazing that it's a little more than two weeks away. Question for everyone. I'm coming from outside of Philly and Google Maps gave me two routes that are identical in drive time. One takes me through Montreal and the other takes me through Ottawa. Does anyone know if one is better than the other in terms of traffic? Here's the link: http://goo.gl/maps/mLsfQ

I'll take any suggestions that anyone has.

Thanks!
Matt

I drove last year from VA, took I-87 through Montreal. Boarder checkpoint getting into Canada was 5 minutes, and almost no traffic until Montreal. A little slowdown there maybe 30 min but the drive was nice and for the most part no problems. Going back the same way the boarder crossing took over 90 minutes, much much slower for some reason. Not sure about going through Ottawa, but I am looking at that route also. Jim

The one through Montreal will feature more time on "highway" type road. The one through Ottawa feature more of rural types road. Both are okay, depends on how you like your driving.

The border stations on either 81 or 87 are very big and should not pose a problem.

Only advice is DO NOT go through Montreal during rush hour traffic It is pretty bad and since it`s an island, the bridges are bottlenecks and there is no option to go around. Rest of the time you will feel a slowdown, but it`s not going to be too bad. It's a 3.5 million people city, so you know what to expect.

If it`s the same, i'd say go through Montreal because it's going to be simpler to follow highway 15 north all the way to Tremblant.

I figured there would be action in this thread with the race coming up in 2 weeks now. How is everybody doing ?

Myself i'm progressively tapering. I have a 4 hr ride and 60 min. run this weekend, and i'll be pretty much done. I have had a couple of minor injuries that lasted only a couple of days. I'm doing really good now and i am pumped.

I was in Tremblant last weekend to ride the course and swim the lake for the first time. Amazing. The lake is really clean and pure. The bike is really fast and the hills are not that bad at all. The whole place is buzzing with the Ironman vibe already. It's going to be awesome.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to head through Montreal. We plan on leaving early enough to pass through Montreal around 1pm.

I have a friend who works for border patrol up there and has said that it's much stricter coming back. Apparently, a lot of unscrupulous people try to make their way to the States via Canada.

If you are planning on going to the welcome Banquet, tickets are on sale until 15 Aug, $25.00. They list two banquets, Banquet Vendredi (Friday) and Banquet Lundi (Monday), make sure you choose the correct one. Enjoying every minute of my taper and started getting my lists in order, next Tue 14 hour drive from VA! Jim

Anyone who is volunteering for this race not receive any emails or info from their volunteer captain yet?? I am volunteering but haven't heard anything. I called my Captain in Canada and he said he was waiting on more information before he sent an email out to everyone. I am just curious because race day is fast approaching.

I've heard nothing yet either. I'll let you know when/if I do. BTW, want to grab a beer or something when we're up there?

Random question but does anybody know if the swim is similar to Lake Placid? Meaning do they have a cable running under the water, holding the buoys in line, that you can follow. That was a real bonus when I found out about that for LP. I'm just curious/hoping that MT has something similar.

No cable ala Mirror Lake
The buoys are all anchored individually from what i saw.

#1735...Note to much going on that year besides the birth of Paul Revere. Now you can't say Paul Revere without breaking into the Beastie Boy's song...

"Been had a little horsy named Paul Revere
Just me and my horsy and a quart of beer
Riding across the land, kicking up sand
Sheriff's posse on my tail cause I'm in demand..."

I train about 98% by myself so I think of the next few lines all the time...
"One lonely Beastie I be
All by myself without nobody"

Enjoy the taper everyone...

#1096 for me. So looks like I will be filling out a Tax Exempt form.

Family will be headed up in about a week from Wednesday. My guess it would only take me 6.5 hours. But I know it is going to take me longer with my 17 Month old daughter.

We're heading up from the Boston area on Thursday, but with a 4-month old, we're staying in Burlington that night and driving to Tremblant on Friday morning. It would be a super long day to try getting in ~7 hrs of drive time + stops to get there by the time packet pickup closes at 4 on Friday.

Only a few more key workouts left! Let's all stay injury free over the next ten or so days!

Heading up Tue from VA Beach, 14 hours for me but no kids, so I'm doing it all at once. If everything works out, my drive will be longer than my race. Staying at the Residence Inn, looking forward to no race day transportation! See you there, Jim

It's cool knowing what everybody's plan is ! I'll join in

I'll be there on Tue AM after a 3.5hr drive from Quebec city.
I'll have my wife and kids with me. Both my parents and
two pairs of very good friends will join us Tuesday night.

We are all staying in a block of condos outside of the main village.

Just Saw on Facebook that the water temp yesterday at 6:45 am was 71F. It will probably cool down some, but it is looking really good.

We're heading up Thursday bright and early. It's the better part of nine hours. My parents will be up Thursday and the in-laws are coming in Friday. The weather down here outside of Philly has been brutal. I think on our worst day the low temperature was 77 the high was up in the 90's with a dewpoint of 79 degrees. You needed gills just to go outside and breathe. I'm really looking forward to that cool Canadian air.
