Merry Christmas Everyone!!!!! Hope you have a safe and wonderful day.  We'll be headed out soon to go on a 9ish mile hike in this 32 degree weather, then back home for maybe a movie.  It's just me and my husband today.  What a special day it will be.

Look what he had made for me!!  Foot in mouth  I will wear this proudly!!!

This is awesome.

I got a new pair of jammers and a $500 check from my parents.  Wonder if Cindy already has plans for it or if my plans to put it towards a set of Flos will win out?  Presents from the immediate family (Cindy, me and the girls) are in Houston.

That Jeff (JSklarz) sure did keep us honest! What's he up to Kelly? And Rudy?

I've never been in a Planet Fitness, I'm picky about my gym. I used to belong to the Y, but the one near me was always dirty, pool was always being used for water aerobics, and equipment was always broken. So I moved to Lifetime Fitness (which is expensive but actually was about the same as the Y - and they have towels!) and love it. I'd say if PF has most of what you want, and you can use it while traveling, then at $20 it's hard to beat. I pay $62/month for just me, $20 seems like a petty good deal.

And what's with the pull ups? I need the assisted machine! Maybe that will be a goal for 2013, be able to do 1 pull up unassisted.

Jeff-y has been on trial the past few weeks.  He claims that he'll be in shape to run the 1/4 marathon at the end of March.  Rud-y has been biking.  I'll bug them both to come by and say hello.

With regard to pull ups, I would love to be able to do ONE.  I've never been able to do a pull up.  My leg strength is good but I have weak little T-Rex arms.

I love the shirt. Perhaps next year Ironman Muncie will be my A race. My last name is Muncie, so it would be cool to do.

Shirt is awesome!  Carrie is doing Muncie as well.

I echo Jeff's statement - espescially because I believe, and I might be incorrect by this, I am the only one in this group who has not done a tri yet and this group is comprised of people who have some seriously impressive accomplishments. So, much thanks to Kelly who has already given this noob some important feedback. I appreciate the time that you (Kelly) have put into this group already (front loading the appreciation because I have more questions to come).

Jeff - I like your avitar. I also ride (not as much as I would like) and ride with a group up here in Maine. There are some awesome trails in ME, VT, and NH and people hit the trails almost all year round (big fat studded tires). I belonged to PF before I got my membership to the Y. You get what you pay for - can't beat the price, the hours are good. Lockers were kinda gross and I just avoided the peak hours.

Off for a 6 miler on this sort of cold, snowy, morning. Merry Christmas everyone.

I am glad you are here. I am still very much a noob even though I've done 3 sprints. I'm nowhere near the level of most of the others. I joined a group last year as a complete newbie but wound up dropping out because it was made up of mostly seasoned veterans who talked to each other a lot. I felt like an outsider...which I was, but I was trying to learn. I don't want to jump into a HIM until I an really ready. My biggest problem is the time to train. That's why I am sticking with sprints for now. But I would be interested in moving up to an Oly..And, yes, thank you so much to all of you and your passion to be part of this group and help us that need it! It really is appreciated!

clgswisher - 2012-12-24 9:00 AM I have added all of you to my training log so you can help keep me honest.  My official plan starts 12-30-12.  I will do my best to upload my workouts daily as well as my nutrition.  Feel free to comment, all encouragement or critiques are welcome.

How do you do this?  I'd like to do the same.

If you go over to the left side in your training log you should see Friends. There is a plus sign that you click on and then it will pull up where you can type in the usernames of us all and then click save. You can do a search as well for each name just in case you want to make sure. Some people block there logs until you add them to your friends list.

Ok.  Y'all are all listed on my training log now also.  Please feel free to have a look and let me know if you see anything really stupid I'm doing (or not doing).

Matt, no worries, this group will be honest. When I first started, I had posted here that I had a great workout one morning. An hour on the trainer in mid January, followed by speed intervals on the treadmill, as a brick workout. The response I got from one of our old pals, JSklarz, was WTF are you doing. Who does run intervals on a brick?? It was actually quite funny, after I figured out JSklarz was actually trying to help me out. I learned a ton in my first year here with this same group. Stick around, this is the best mentor group going.
Yeah, it's 2:37 am on Xmas morning. Had some last minute things to put together for the kids before they wake up. They are super excited. So, good night, or good morning I should say. Wishing everyone a happy and safe holiday.

Thanks!  I'm right there with you in putting stuff together Christmas Eve.  This year it was doll houses and car tracks.  I think beer helped my construction skills.  Both were smashing successes this morning, though, so it's all good.

And Chris - don't worry, you're not the only total rookie here.  May 2013 will be my first tri also.  I'm glad I'm not alone!

Merry Christmas everyone.

Merry Christmas!

The whole family was up way past bedtime, so it really is nap time here. My husband is asleep next to me on the couch. Heading out for another gathering in an hour. Rest day for me. I got a new kettlebell and some running tights that actually fit this year

I have eaten so much sugar. Feeling pretty gross. I may do the Whole30 with you, Karen (if you're in?). I figure with all the gastro problems I've had lately, it would be a smart move anyway.

Work Work Work, new job started at the end of November. Still recovering from my back injury in September, although I am getting some shorter runs in a couple of times a week finally (good lord where did my endurance go?).

Definitely! I am actually planning on doing a Whole100. On the site there is a Whole100 thread that I am going to participate in. It starts January 1st.

Karen, I'll consider this, again. It would be a great start to my comeback, and will get me in gear knowing I have some support from you and Jen. Was it Bev, here in this group, who is on Paleo (with a curve)?? I think it will become Whole30 (with a slight curve) for me. Are protein shakes whole foods????????

rizer22 - 2012-12-25 1:44 AM Oh, one other thing. Planet Fitness just opened up locally. Perfect timing as my other gym membership just expired at $40 month. Planet Fitness is $20, ($10 per month for basic) but I'm on road for work a lot so this allows me to use other locations. Today was first day there. I'm a little undecided on my thoughts. It's crowded, but hopefully going mid day on lunch breaks, won't be too bad. Also, if you love cardio, which we do, it has plenty of that. As for the weights etc, not so sure yet. Lots of "machines". And no pull up bar, other than the assisted one. Really? That's a staple in my circuits. I can crank out some pull-ups, so I'm a little disappointed.
Anyone else belong to PF? Thoughts? I don't have a local gym with a pool. If I did, I'd clearly pay the higher price.

They should have everything you need for your rehab at least.  Do they have a smith machine?  Google rack chins and you should be able to sub it in for pullups.  If they had a pool I'd be ok with the place.  The mentality they market is a little offputting to me, but given my background that isn't too surprising.

Scott, I am familiar with the smith machine. I didn't even think of that. Thanks. And yeah, they'd call you a "lunk" at PF if you grunted, or drank water from a one gallon jug. Apparently there is a "Lunk" buzzer that goes off if there are any sightings of this. Haven't heard that yet. But, they have Hydro Massage beds, same as the one my chiropractor uses. That in itself is amazing. The hardest part for me right now is making sure I listen to the doctors orders. Watching people run yesterday, was difficult to see. I wanted to hop right on and go for it. But, I now realize how difficult it is being out for over a year. So believe me, I'm being careful.

I ride every weekend, all winter as well. With the right gear, you can easily ride in 20 degree weather on the trails. It makes long trainer weeks worth the effort, with the award being an outdoor ride in the middle of February. I also race XC mountain in the spring.

If you are going strictly Whole30 they are not. You can go to whole9life.com for all the info. It Starts With Food is the best book ever! I don't mean to horn in on your group, but I just started Whole30 in November and it was great...if only I could slay this sugar dragon!

Glad everyone had a great day. It was so nice to be with family. I see many of you are looking at revamping your diets. I need to look at making some changes myself. I drink one glass of water a day, so that's the first change I'm needing to make. I really have some unhealthy habits. I just really don't like water. I had to force myself to drink water when pregnant.

Hope everyone has a great night.

Random question: how many of you listen to music on your runs?

The only thing I can say about the water thing is to try and add some flavoring to it - lemon, lime, etc. Fortunately I don't have that problem as it's the only thing I drink besides coffee. And music on runs...not so much now because I can't listen during tris so I decided to eliminate the music. I have a Pear device and listen to the trainer instead. Lol

Merry Christmas to all.

Since it's just me and the hubby this year, we decided to go for a drive and drove to CT to see the Rev3 Quassy course today instead of next week.

O.M.G.

I'm more than a little scared now. I know it sounds ridiculous, but honestly, I'm scared of having a bad 'tune up' race, and it destroying my confidence for IMLP.

I know many will say just do the training and it'll be fine, but I'm a worrier, and dont have a ton of faith in my ability so now I'm torn.
