Veteran 240 Northern Virginia | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL richtherunner - 2007-01-17 3:47 PM I have just started reading the Total Immersion one and it sounds interesting. Rich - Definitely interested in hearing what you think about the book and the techniques. I've been reading: "The Triathletes Guide to Swim Training" by Steve Tarpinian - It has been most helpful to me. Offers great technique pointers, drills, strategies and sample swim workouts. (Great for those of us who have a plan that designates only time frames for the workout) "Swim Bike Run" by Wes Hobson, et al This is a littlemore hardcore - seems to be written more for those who want to place overall/age group, but still very helpful on technique training and racing. |

Member 30 | Subject: RE: Swimming Question mdelder, I know what you are talking about. My workout training sheet off this site also gives you "minutes". I have found that just committing to swimming the workout provided by the tri-club at the pool is more than sufficient. They have me do what Steve was mentioning...some kick-only laps, some pull-only laps, some stroke work fundamental laps, and some free-style laps. I take the breaks where needed and have had the best work-outs of my life in the pool with the group over the last few weeks. The more advanced swimmers look like they are warming up and then working the "clock" for the time like you mentioned. Seems that I have some stroke work to learn before JUST SWIMMING. |

Member 30 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL I had another great swim workout last night and I am going to do a running workout tonight. I am finally picking my bike up tonight on my way home from work and I am going to pick-up a trainer to go with it. This seems much more realistic than using the gym bikes. I have 6lbs in 10-days! I know this is simply weight my body never wanted to carry around. I have been eating every dinner at home and packing a lunch for work every day. (my wallet thanks me for my diet too ) I am right at 210.00lbs and have my 190lb competition weight in site. Thanks to everyone for sharing all your goals and details. This has been extremely motivating and I am looking forward to the next step! I will be in Las Vegas Mon-Fri of next week for a business conference and will need motivated! I do not want to take the week off...does anyone have advice for working out while away on business? We are taking clients out to big dinners every night and I will need to focus on not drinking too much and controlling my diet (This will be hard!) |

Pro 4100 Wherever the trail takes me, WA. | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL Ryan great work on your swim. Anytime you put in a good work out that feels good. Sounds like you are dropping lbs, like no one's business. That is awesome. What kind of bike do you end up getting? We would all love to see pictures!!! You will all be happy to know that your "Mentor" finally made it to the gym last night and this morning! Yeah, I am feeling healthy and a little settled into the new house finally!!!! In 2 weeks after we replace all the carpet in the house I will finally be able to set up the Compu Trainer again, and just back on my bike. Life is all about curveballs, but I hit fastballs better. I don't like change so it is nice to finally get back into the swing of things! |

Veteran 222 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL Nice bike Ryan. Mine is a Fuji Aloha I got last fall. It took me a while to get used to it coming from a Mountain bike, but I picked up 10k and hour in average speed.

Member 30 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL That is really nice too! I figure that I will eventually move on to having a full-on Tri-bike like yours in addition to my road bike. I just need to get used to a more basic version with the group riding and distance capabilities first. Thanks for sharing |

I noticed that my appetite is crazy high with my new workouts! I have to keep healthy snacks like fruit and "bars" around to prevent me from hitting up junk! Anyone else? |

Unfortunately, I'm getting sick. Woke up this morning with a sore throat. Pushed myself to lift weights and ride my bike anyway. Might not have been such a good idea looking back on it. I'll probably take tomorrow off. We're supposed to have friends over for dinner tomorrow night. Sunday, church and a long run if I'm feeling up for it. Then I start prepping again for the next week of work. And I do find myself wanting to eat more. I can't say that I'm hungrier though. I think I'm just on a kick where I want to eat anything for no reason. Benson |

Veteran 222 | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL My weekend: Curling Friday evening, new team starting tonight so should be fun meeting new people. A curling BonSpiel (tournament) all day Saturday. 9am start and be home by 9pm. 3 games. It's called the Cowspiel and winners get meat. $40 for curling, lunch and Roast beef dinner. Can't beat it. Sunday - Run for about 8k then swim for a good 30 to 40 minutes. Then take the dog for walk and depending the amount of snow we get on Saturday, will be giving the upper body more of a workout shovelling the snow. Then Sunday evening, bottle of Red wine and relaxation with my wife. |

I've been working out pretty hard for the past two months now, and since losing a ton of weight last year, now the real work begins. My trainer at the gym is recommending that I start out gradually and add something more each week in terms of time, speed, intensity and so on. He wrote up a 4-week workout program for me. My first triathlon is not until July 7th, but tomorrow is day one of my real journey to the finish line. So, I'm calling on my fellow mentor groupies... waddyathink? Here's my workout for tomorrow and the rest of the week: Sat Med. Pace Run 25-35 min; Fast Pace Bike 15 min; Light Pace Swim 20 laps Sun. Member 48 Searcy, AR | Subject: RE: SWBKRUN MENTOR GROUP - FULL Plan on some family time tomorrow and filming some clips for a drama at our church. If I can get out, I'd like to log a fairly long run. Maybe 4 or 5 mile. Never done that much. Looking to expand. Anyway, everyone have a great weekend and try to enjoy the snow if you are expecting it! |
