I'm thinking either a yardage/mileage or hour commitment to the pool/bike.  Hours might be easier since we're all at different paces.  There's a challenge me section to BT that might help us define it better:  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=102104&posts=66&start=1

Let's figure it out from here!

great idea...

I like the bike challenge.... i am doing on already for Feb in the "Challenge Me" section.  But it would be fun to do it here...

We don't have to get all fancy with spreedsheets, since there is only 6 of us maybe we can just enter the info in the log, and be on the honor system and update the thread each week (Monday) with your numbers.

No to come up with the challenge...

I'm totally down for a challenge. Thanks for the encouragement on my juggling routine. To answer your question, I am in a PhD for Urban Education and my specialization is in Learning and Development. I just started this fall so I have a long way to go. But four years from now everyone has to call me doctor!

Regarding the challenge: I think an hour based challenge is a good idea. And, since it is winter, hours in the pool or bike trainer seem to be fair. We could tally the total number of hours spent in either or both of these disciplines and then see who comes out on top. Can I suggest that the winner of the challenge gets to put something to the effect of "Team Kleinrider: February Challenge Winner" or some such thing in their signature line? Might be a good motivator. What do you guys think?

Josh

i like that idea.... no we just need to agree if we are running, swimming or biking...

instead of having a person(s) run or swim for hours, what if we all choose a goal and try to hit that goal... Depending on how many people we get we can do teams... then the winning team can use that line...

doing the goal thing is the way the Challenge Me board normally does it...

your thoughts???

I'm in for the challenge!

Are we all then picking the same area for the challenge? I would do any of the three. I think Jessica suggested bike or swim because she isn't running at the moment. If I had to choose the area to be challenged, I would have to say the bike.

Josh, I was wondering if you were getting your PhD in Education since you are currently a teacher. I'm also a teacher. Well, a stay-at-home mom currently. I have a Master in Special Education. I've worked with children with autism for about 8 years now. It's a wonderful profession. Best of luck to you!!!! The four years will be over before you know it.

I am currently a teacher at Euclid High School so my PhD is to make me the best possible teacher. Thanks for the encouragement regarding the program. Special education teachers are a special breed of people who I have the utmost respect for. Will you be returning to teaching after your kids are older?

As for the challenge, I am in. Can't wait to get this thing started!

Now I'm not sure ... JUST KIDDING!  How's about this.  A time committment to whatever discipline you like.  Plan to meet and/or exceed your goal.  Time is based off what we log on BT.  Each week we can post our time and I'll keep track of everyone's goal, wkly total, and % to goal.  I'll post that by Monday each week.  At the end of the month, the person who best meets or exceeds that goal, wins.  Pretty rudimentary but it's always nice to egg someone on a bit.

That will work. Our goals should be based off of our January totals. For example, your February goal should be 20% (or whatever) higher than your January totals. That way we can account for people being at various levels. It would probably behoove us to pick just one discipline to be our targeted discipline but we could also try to improve on all 3 during the month.

Count me in for the bike. I need the motivation here since I'll be stuck inside on the trainer. I like John's number of 10 hours. Thanks Jessica for challenging the group. I'm excited!

Put me down for 10 hours. I think I will really push the bike this month since I can read and bike at the same time.
