Hey Mile-
Not sure if you could answer my question but just curious if there are exercises (or do I need a brace) I could do to strengthen my knee. Everytime I run by the time I get to 1.5 miles my knee hurts so bad that I am basically lymping.

So how many people are in this group? Should we all add each other as friends so we can 'inspire' each other?

Shawn - Look at the list of 'quick links' next to the calendar. Click on the top one and then click on "friends".

I added you and Mike and Riorio.

Hey everyone,

So tonight I did my first swim, and would love some feedback from any of you guys on how it looks. Sorry to ask I haven't swam in so long and not sure what is a decent starting point. I have nothing to gauge myself on. A little input I went the whole time without stopping but had to change up strokes a lot. Thanks guys I really appreciate the help.

Shawn

PS: does anyone know how to monitor your HR while swimming, not sure if my monitor can be used in teh pool.

Watch that shoulder...you want to get comfortable in the pool. Try some drills don't mecessary worry about distance or time.

Get comfortable in the water....

you should do drills and then work on time and distance.

I have a Timex Digital Fitness Heart Rate Monitor (http://www.rei.com/product/751245)

Hey Mike, when you say drills, what would you suggest?

I was doing the time and distance thing because it is part of the training plan that is on here. I'm doing the sprint 2x balanced plan. It says if I do the times that I will come through the finish line in June.

Is there anything different you would suggest, I'll do the best I can on any program. I just really want to be able to make it through that finish line in June/July.

Thanks, Shawn

Thats a tough one, you should visit a local specialty running shoe store and get your gait and foot strike analysed. I didnt know I was a mild pronator until last year. I wear Asics stability and my husband just went last week and got his new shoes- Mizunos. The perfect shoe is out there for you. I did pay the running shoe store price for my fist pair of Asics but now I know which model to buy, I get them online for almost half the price

As for goggles, I have a small face and wear a pair of my son's TYR goggles

Hello Mike,

Is your your group still open? I would like to join.
I certainly need some Guidance and help.

I have done one sprint triathlon 2 years ago. Ran the 2005 Chicago Marathon and 2006 race, but left race after 15 miles with a plantar faci. injury which actually started in july prior to the triathlon. Have not trained a whole lot trying to recover from the injury. I have been working out for two weeks now.

I have signed up for an 8k in March,5k in April, 5k in May sprint tri in July.

Your help and encouragement would be surely appreciated.

Hey Guys...

Are you taking any more members? I am looking for group to help me train for my first 1/2 Ironman. I am doing the Muskoka 70.3 in September of this year!

My name is Leanne. I am 28, but closer to 29. I am a runner but in the past year I have taken up triathlons due to my husband's influence! My last race was the Kiawah Island Marathon in December.

Right now, I am coming off of an injury so I have not been doing a whole lot. My goal is to get my fitness back slowly but to also get in the best shape of my life (injury free!)

I live in NC so we have mild temps that allow for outdoor training all year round. My hubby and I just bought a new bike trainer though for those chilly/windy days.

I think I have found the 1/2 IM plan I want to follow but it doesn't start until May so up until then I need to come up with some sort of plan. Any suggestions would be great. My weakest link is my swimming.

Take a look at my race results if you want. I am all for adding everyone to my 'friends' list but I was wondering if we could compile a complete list somehow to make it easier. Mike are you able to do that???

Can't wait to get started...I am having exercise guilt for not be able to work out for the past month and bit!

Leanne
