Have any of you looked at the "Zero to 1650 in Six Weeks" swim program?

http://ruthkazez.com/ZeroTo1mile.html

I did the week one workout today and found it quite manageable

Bryan, *tip of the cap* don't forget to bring the Terry Fox coin on Sunday. It should be GREAT inspiration. My thoughts and prayers will be with you on Sunday. You are a well trained athlete, you are prepared and remember Left, Right and Repeat!

On the Dan front, I had my best swim ever this morning. 1,600m in 34 minutes. My ultimate goal is 30 minutes. I hope to be able to do the OWS 1,500m in June for the 30 minutes. I think the drills in my swim class are helping.

B-man,

Good vibes coming all the way from Frosty Freddy Beach this weekend. Remember Terry did the equivalent of a marathon a day for over 200 days on only one leg. All you have to do is Left Right Repeat !!!

Well registration is open for my Tri but haven't signed up.  Not sure why but the last two races I signed up for I could not run.  Back was bothering me yesterday and seems somewhat better today.  I am swapping my SRD for tomorrow to today.  Getting two workouts in today was going to be a pain so this helps.

Do I register and risk losing another registration fee or do I wait?

Everyone stay warm!

LRR - Thinking of you and wishing you an AWESOME run on Sunday

Dan - I did the 0 to a mile program and it was great. I never imagined I could swim a mile, but that program made it very manageable.

Accident recovery - I did my first run today. On the treadmill. Took it easy and gentle. Played around with the incline until I found my "pain free zone."  As soon as the temps become reasonable again, I'll try an outdoor run on a flat course.

Did my first strength training workout yesterday.  My trainer modified the exercises and cut the session time from 60 to 30 minutes. Upper body only. It felt nice to train again. As soon as the burns and cuts heal completely I'll go for my first swim. All the wounds are closed now but I'm not sure they'll stay that way if I get in the water for any lenght of time. Hopefully by next week.

Okay was going to sign up for the LA Tri when I noticed that the Rookie Tri which was originally a week after the LA Tri was moved up to March 28th.  Its a 200m swim (pool), 6 mile ride, 1.5 mile run.  I know I can do this one and may be a great warm up to the LA Tri.

I just have to clear it with the Family.

Okay, time for an opinion poll:

Currently I am training 6 days a week.   Do you think training 5 days a week is sufficient to get me ready for the April 18th Tri?

Really starting to get worried about overtraining with the knee.  With my progress in swimming and the use of a wetsuit I am not concerned about finishing the 800m swim but I  probably will be one of the last swimmers out of the water but I really couldn't care less (what do they call the last person to cross the finish line in a Triathlon? A Triathlete!

I would continue 3 days a week in the pool but would probably alternate 3 runs/2 rides (one ride for distance)  then 3 Rides/2 runs (one for distance not to exceed 10k).

FBP - protect yourself in the cold.  Hopefully the car is purchased....my dad was in the car business and I HATE to buy cars.   Sorry you have to shovel so much....the temp for the marathon is supposed to be 50-70 degrees F.  I was really hoping it would be a little cooler.

Have a great weekend ya'll, I leave early for Houston tomorrow.

Gary - the Rookie sounds great...sign up.  I would cut back to 5 days...you need the rest.  Finally, I would swim 3, run 2, bike 2 or 3.  I would not run more than twice - the fitness from the bike will cross over.  You WILL be ready.  I promise.

FBP- stay warm. I have been running in this weather regularly. I finally figured out how to dress for it. I actually kind of like it!!!I have been wearing my bike tights and jacket, they are far more wind resistant than my running tights. I did 11 miles last weekend and was not the least bit cold. I think of you often when I run in the snow and cold.

GO BRYAN GO!!!!!RUN BRYAN RUN!!!!LRR...LRR...LRR. Have fun. I know you will. Imagine that a marathon will be your "cool down" in Arizona..LOL. DONT FORGET YOUR RACE REPORT...we will all be waiting!!!

Who's up for a February challenge?

How about an Ironman distance MONTH....

2.4 miles swim during the month

112 miles on the bike (spin class or trainer okay - I will help estimate speed if you need help)

26.2 mile run

All done in one month...

If you want, go to teamEvoTri.com (website is something like that) and check this out officially....They have had a deal where a couple of manufacturers would actually donate to charity for YOU training....so much for each mile....or just do the mileage if there deal is over...

That's something to look forward to in February....

YAY Gary! I haven't signed up for any races yet... well except for the TnT tri that I'm training with the team... but I haven't fully committed to that yet either... I got a discount code in an email for the Iron Girl in May - I don't have the money this month to pay for it... so I'll put it off a while.

BRYAN - GL today! I KNOW you can do it... just remember to HAVE FUN! can't wait to read your RR.

Jennifer - glad to see you're feeling better...

I'll take up your challenge B-man and aim to be a "February Ironman". Did a good spin workout this morning 'cause it is brutally cold outside.

Gary - good call on a 5x per week sched. Rest is a vastly under-rated component of training.

No car yet but very close. We've decided to go with ne vs. used and have narrowed it down to the Mazda3 - bottom of the line GX model with 5 speed manual and the "Comfort Package" that adds A/C (for the couple of months per year where it is nice to have!!), alloy vs. steel rims, some power options (windows, locks, trunk release), etc. We have only one Mazda dealer in town so I'm also dealing with one that it is about an hour away to try and have a bit of negotiating leverage. Hope to conclude a deal early in the week.

Any of you "24" fans? My boss jokingly refers to me as Jack Bauer from time-to-time and so having never seen the show I went out and rented season 1 on DVD. Two episodes in and I'm liking it.

Have a great weekend all.

FBP - Don't know if this will work for you.  When we went looking for a car we found a out of town dealer that had the car we wanted.  Problem was he wasn't going to give us a very good deal.  We visited a local dealer, gave them the exact specs of the car.  They didn't have one that matched but they would do a dealer search for us.  They just happened to have found a car matching our specs with another dealer and for $75 delivery fee they could get it to us at the price we wanted.   We saved $2K (minus $75).

LRR - Not sure how I will hit the bike miles but I am in for the Feb IM.  So total of 3840 meters swimming, 112 miles riding, 26.2 miles running?

I will definately be up for the ironman challenge!!!

Pete did you try that Spinerval DVD?...Its my official quad buster!!!!

I just completed my longest run of 12 miles! It was so cold that my water froze halfway through and I was carrying iit in my jacket. I had to take several walk breaks to rub my hamstrungs as they had gone numb.It is extremely cold. Yesterday we had a pipe freeze. We have lived in the same house for 23 years and never had a problem. One month to my half mary...cant wait. Hopefully it will warm up a bit by then!

Bryan I sent you good karma my whole runCool.

Mav - I'm liking the Spinervals DVD that I have (Aero Base Builder). It is rated 7.5/10. So far I have not done the complete workout. After the warm up he does 4 x 4 minutes with 1 minute easy in between then 4 x 3 minutes with 45 seconds. THat's as far as I've gone. I presume the next set is 4 x 2 minutes with 30 seconds and then 4 x 1 minute with 15 seconds. I find my heart rate stays nea my max zone throughout so I have to be careful not to push too hard which wuld get it into the anaerobic zone.

I keep checking in to see if Bryan has posted anything yet... Hope you had a good run Byran!

I had a good run this morning... 4 miles in 50 minutes - the first half was all up hill, then a GREAT down hill (looking at the lights on the strip) coming home.

btw, I bought that bike that I was looking at... (that I had decided not to get) Well, I decided that I couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a titanium bike... I'm going to take it to a bike shop this afternoon to have it "set-up", Then my TnT coach said he'd fit it for me... (He's not a pro fitter, but he'll get close enough)

The bike is more "used" than it shows, she did mention that it would need new tires soon, but the saddle is well used, as well as the aerobar pads... and she took the drink cages off??? But left on the spd pedals - I use spd-sl pedals... so if anyone needs the spd pedals, let me know. Still the bike is VERY LIGHT WEIGHT! It's SWEEEEEEEEET :-)

My new bike

Diane - cool bike!

LRR- hope the race was awesome for you.

I don't think I'm up the IM challenge just yet. The bike would be the biggest challenge. That's a lot more miles than I've been doing. Looks like fun though. I'll be cheering for you that sign up.

I am still playing around with the idea of doing my half in three weeks. I won't PR (not even close) but if it looks like I could finish it without re-injury, then I may just go for it. I'll decide after my next few long runs...or make that run/walks.

Thanks to all of you....the run is done...actually was done yesterday as you know...

Full race report to follow later but the 26.2 is complete...the medal is cool and heavy....I survived...actually feel pretty good today.  Had a few issues but fortunately nutrition was not one of them - I got that right.  I ran/walked it as planned and finished in 5:28, a PR, since it was my first.  I was hurting from mile 3 in the hips and the back of my left knee knotted up at mile 13-15...I can't remember where...I was on pace to run about 5-5:15 at that point but that was it.  I PR'd, did the 26.2....got the medal....drank the beer (actually had a bit along the way about mile 23 or so....SMILE...great crowd....as usual in Texas, it got warm (at least for a marathon), we started at 66 degrees farenheit with about 70% humidity....it was in the mid 70s when we finished....it didn't seem too bad actually but I think it took it's toll....

thanks for all the good thoughts

cool bike by the way....Mav will pass judgment on the color but I think it looks fast.

CONGRATS Bryan!!! 5:28 is a long time to be on your feet... of course, I was on my feet a lot longer than you on my first (and only so far) marathon - it took me 6:03...

As for the color of the bike - it's titanium... so it's titanium colored - It's about 4ish years old, I don't think they were coloring titanium then... I don't even know if they do it now???

FAST?? It still has the same engine as my other bike

Although the seller told me that the fork was also titanium, she was wrong... it doesn't sound the same as the frame when tapping on it... doesn't matter

I have to name my bike??!? NO CLUE... Maybe you all can help me on that? I never named my blue hybrid bike either... hmmmmm

Shark - very cool, I am jealous.  If it is that light you will be faster!

Mav - congrats on the distance PR.

Morning was ground crew for pony club, followed by 600m swim, then worked on the roof of the barn trying to finish some stuff but not done.  Want to run tonight but walked in the house, saw DW with a beer grabbed one and finished it (tasted very good, Heineken light), lol.  It's 6:30 and will wait until 9 to run ( I found I don't run well after drinking beer).
