Lots of hatred and history between Spurs and West Ham so no surprise....you do know what Spurs nickname among other London clubs is right? The "Y@#s" from White heart lane... It will take generations to get these cultural ingrained chants out of the game I am afraid.. Watching this weekend ( Arse/Villa, Man City/Chleski) the top EPL teams seem to lack the ability to transform possession into scoring chances. i believe it is due to the lack of ability to turn in midfield or the lazy striker play who dont show for the ball....if you watch Barca or Juve...they turn in midfield often and create odd man situations or they go up a level to a forward and "turn" the opposing midfield...not sure why this isnt happening in EPL....maybe player ability but it seems more passes are received with back to goal and then player straight back to the same player or to a defender than are played into areas that would cause defenders concern. - Leads to very boring midfield gridlock. |

I have not been able to watch nearly as much as I want this fall and winter so far. Hopefully that will turn around soon. I agree, though, that EPL style is lacking. But hasn't it always been kind of that way?

The Champions "league' started this mess to get more revenue...time to rethink.. I agree. But would the individual FA's want to give up the potential on the revenue income? I agree that the current format is probably hurting the quality of the matches on the field because it tires them out. Then every 2 years they are doing either the Euro cup or the WC and it is even worse.

Thanks. And very interesting. Quite myopic, don't you think? I would think it would be more beneficial to ALL FA's that participate if some of the money went back to the FA too. Similar to what happens in the NCAA bowls. The team gets a take and their league gets a take that is then divied up to the other teams in the league. Ultimately to help parity. What would be the down side to that (outside of the current issue of wearing the teams down)? maybe that is something they can think of to do if they were to collapse to a larger Champions League format?

Expert 1207 Parker, Co | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? You presume parity is a goal....its not like the US leagues...Personally I think parity breeds mediocrity...but then again I like dominant teams and top quality over a morass of average teams playing each other... However, there is a point where certain team dominance hurts a league - but in most cases it is outside money from ownership that creates the disparity between teams not a distribution of revenues from the governing body.. This sounds like a political thread....so will leave it at that! |

This sounds like a political thread....so will leave it at that! I can see that. But does it really do the league justice if the same 4 teams continue to be the ONLY ones that not only win or fight to win their league but are also the only ones that qualify for a tournament like this? Doesn't that then make it a 4 team league and then everyone else? Sometimes parity breeds mediocrity, but then doesn't it also then bread interest because you have NO idea who is going to win each year, not just the same 4-6 teams? Wouldn't it then raise the bar for some of those lower teams to not only stay up but then also fight for the top? Finally, right now I'm just talking about EPL. But you look at La Liga, Serie A, etc, don't they also have the same issue of the top 1-2 teams are always fighting (eg, Real and Barca) for the top? It is an interesting conversation and there are certainly pro's and cons to both. |

Expert 1207 Parker, Co | Subject: RE: Any REAL football fans here? La Liga is a different animal - Barca/Real negotiated their own TV contracts so they have a far better revenue stream than the other clubs - thats where they get their disparity...braking that would be hard. Serie A has more volatility - Juve won last year but in the past few seasons that league has been very competitive among 5-6 teams...amybe due to match fixing! Ha - just kidding... EPL is owner money...that isnt sustainable so it will be interesting to see what happens when the Oligarchs get bored and move on... You read Soccernomics right? |

I dont know if its not enough practive with that formation or what, but the chemistry on the field was entirely different when Tevez came in. Turned off the Everton - Spurs game and this morning founds out that Everton won. I still don't know how that happen. About Messi, there are no words to describe what he has done and his talent. It is incredible that he can be mentioned as one of the best ever and he is only 25....I bet CR wasn't able to sleep last nigth wondering why they are not talking about him more. Juve made my sunday much better. They got some breathing room now after Napoli result. |

I wasn't thrilled when we picked him up. I disagree with his reaction. I know you aren't condoning it, but that is just rubbish. And from many of the matches I've seen over the past 3-4 weeks, Stoke isn't the only ones getting away with it. Agger was down right molested in the box two weeks ago, right in front of the ref AND the linesman and nothing was called. And it wasn't Stoke. It was Wigan. And then I saw my boys in Red then turn right around and do the same thing on the other side of the pitch. It has become part of the match. Felliani is just using Stoke as an excuse. He has always been a dirty little tw*t. |

Demba Ba (Newcastle) is talking to Chelsea. Anyone else hear anything else? I like the sturridge signing, it should make a difference now that the Reds are within striking distance of 4th. Seems like Juventus will adquire Llorente, so that should solidify them at the top for the remaining of the season, i'm certainly happy about that. Lets see where Balotelli ends, after the latest incident with Mancini i dont seee him staying put with MC. |
