It's been a good training week for me. Yesterday I rode with some fast girls and it kicked my butt just to keep up! They were super nice and welcoming. I've never really drafted before and they decided it was time for me to learn One of the girls rode in front of me and another rode beside me and coached me through staying on and keeping my cadence even with the front rider. It was really fun! Today I ran 11 miles. The last 30 min was tough. I think yesterdays bike tiredness lingered. Good fun though.

Hope everyone is having a good

11 miles! That's incredible! I hate to run. 4 is my max.

I have to admit, most days I still hate to run too. It's just the hardest on my body of the 3 sports. Then I have a decent day like last weeks 11 and this weeks 11 when I can see a little light up ahead I love that feeling of feeling like I've made progress and a couple of miles go by and I tell myself, look, you can run! Then the next run I'm a slug! Haha! Maybe in a few years I'll be one of those people that love it.

Laura, Suzie, Johanne -- Glad to see all of the progress and efforts!  I've been a slug this week / just taking it easy and not really doing any training.  Am hoping to get another long group ride in tomorrow AM.

Think I may be going through a bit of a let down after the season.

I think that's normal after the build up all year. Do you have any more races? Maybe find a fall run to do.

Johanne, no more tries scheduled -- there is one in early October that I might do.  May look in to a 5K or two.  I'll be OK over the next two weeks.  The pool was closed this week so that was another hurdle for me.  Likely I'll take a couple of weeks of 2-3 runs + the three hour / 50 mile Sunday rides.  Feel like I'm "slacking" but know that to most folks this is a a lot!!!!  Think I may have become addicted to this tri stuff!!!!  Actually, what it is, is a "habit".  Was hard to get used to training regularly, and now it is "natural" and feels wierd to take time off.

On the plus front, feel great, and weight is still under control.  Probably a good thing to take a couple of weeks to heal up and get ready for the next phase of training.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend -- the 18 holes this AM were fun.

Did a decent 1 hour run this AM and had a bit of a cramp in my right calf which made me walk for a minute or two. I'm going to say this was all due to the total crap diet I've eaten the past 2 days. Just garbage-a-rama. Back on track today.

Hurricane will be going west of us, so chances are we'll get some minor wind & rain

Nice job squeezing in a run before Irene's shenanigans.  I'm really surprised it's going west of you.  I have friends in Marblehead, MA and they were only pulling the boat in prep for the storm.  Stay safe, Mike!  Who really knows what it'll do!

You're not the only one.  It passes!  My husband is just starting to get out of the post Ironman fog.  What are you looking forward to this fall/winter?  Keep looking it ahead. =)

I have a hunch that you nailed your recovery/hard runs perfectly.  I read over and over again that people go far too hard on their long runs and don't go slow enough on recovery runs.  That's why the blogs on BT are so helpful at finding patterns!

Yep and it seems to be getting better too. I seem to be able to swim and swim with no issues right now - well unless I try the speed stuff like I do on warm up to see how fast I can do my 25's, lol. I should be getting one of those pull buoy things on Tuesday after bowling too so I'll be able to concentrate on the arms even more.

In addition to trying to sprint 25 yards... try counting your strokes too!  I suggest triathletes get until 20 strokes/length if they can.  It's a great challenge because you have to play around with your stroke: kicking harder, finishing the pull after your hand gets to your hip, reaching in front/rotating on one side, swimming more like "catch up" drill, etc.

Has anyone played swim golf lately?  It's counting the strokes you take and adding that to your swim time for 25 or 50 yards.  The idea is to get a lower score by swimming faster or taking fewer strokes.  I think some of you had good luck with that a few months ago.

May also be worth a shot reviewing your blogs and race reports to see if there's anything you said you would improve on and now figure out how you're going to do that.  You can use this down time to figure out if you need to develop a strength training program or decide if you'd like to look into a yoga or pilates class or something else that will improve a part of your fitness that may have been neglected because of your tri training. =)

I keep intending to do the spl/swim golf thing but I keep forgetting. I'll try next time I go to the pool

I wasn't able to swim last night as I managed to pinch a nerve (or something) in my shoulder--there was a great deal of pain--the pain has diminished somewhat, so I will try to hit the pool tomorrow instead. Tonight I did a 4.6 mile run, my time turned out to be 58 minutes and 45 seconds--I am happy with that!

Thanks! There doesn't seem to be any pain this morning, so it looks like an afternoon swim is in the cards for me! This is great also cause we're supposed to be near the 100's temperature-wise today--ug.

All these people doing workouts, and me being a slug!

Today's run was put aside due to the hurricane/tropical storm coming through. Just miserable outside. not a problem running in it, but the worry about falling brances/trees/powerlines is making me push it off a day. Should probably put in some time on the trainer, but quite frankly, I don't have the motivation so far today. Its a great day to sit around and sort of do nothing .

Sunday AM group ride.  Continued with same hydration strategy + added in 2 x 1/2 PBJ sandwiches.  Worked great!  Ride was a lot of fun.  Again, I stayed towards the back to continue getting comfortable with the group concept.  Helped several folks out with leading them back to the main group; and, at one point in time actually took a turn on the front of 5 person group in to the wind.  Really enjoy the group rides as they go fast, give you a chance to talk to some folks, and mix in various intensitities.

Lazy (laundry and groceries) day today. Full week of school this week, I'm a bit exhausted after two tris in 6 days, vacation and starting school again last week. Yesterday's tri was good, cut 5:32 off of last years time, but I am still BOMOP (Back of middle of pack) Apparently everyone else got better too! I cut over 2 mins off of my swim time, so that was good. I was trying to beat a friend, (did not) she got me by 44 seconds! She had me by 6 mins due to my swim time (she swam in HS) but I managed to make up 5:16 seconds in the bike and run. Was really hoping to eeek out a little more, but still fun. I also forgot my bike shoes at IG so I had to ride with tennis shoes on my little pedals. That was interesting! Race report someday...

Ugh, bummer about the shoulder! Hope it's feeling better.  Nice run!  Have you started thinking about your plans for next year?  I'm assuming, though, that since you're in a warmer climate that you may have plenty more races you can do this fall.

Irene was kind of a let down, eh?  I stocked up like whoa on non-perishables so now our cupboards are FULL.  I won't have to go grocery shopping for a loooong time if we just live off the canned goods. =)

M'mmm PB&J rock!  If I'm doing a looong ride (like, 90+miles) I love to stop for a slice of pizza and coke about 60 miles in. =)  Sounds like the nutrition is working for you!

Oh Laura!  You make me tired just reading what's been making you so busy!!  I get crazy busy too, so I block out at least one solid day/month that I don't plan ANYTHING for until the last minute.  It's nice knowing I have that day to sleep in and do whatever (often, it involves a lot of cleaning, but then getting treated to dinner). =)

Great work everyone.

Mike - Sorry Irene didn't let you go out. Sometimes being a slug is a good thing. Think how much stronger you'll come back after the rest.

Curt - sounds like a great ride. Glad the hydration/nutrition is working

Kate - WTG on the tri. Congrats on the new PB and great work making up the time your friend got you by on the swim. I'm sure you'll beat her next time you race each other.

Not much from Irene, but seems lots of branches down, and many folks in town without power.

Finally made it back to the pool this AM - haven't been in over a week. did about 1400 yards, and that was enough. The weather is forcast to be spectacular the next few days, and I have a few days off work, so I'm hoping for a couple of multi sport days.

Mike -- I'd take an honest look at where you are and where you want to be.  Have no doubt you can do the HIM or the IM.  Question is "Where are you at on your journey?".  From what I've read / surmised, it's important to build in to things slowly to ensure (i) you don't hurt yourself and (ii) you don't burn out.  I'd argue that #2 may be more important -- you've made massive gains over the past year.  Would you rather take another year to hit the IM level and have it be part of a long term life style or have it be an OTO / final event that leads to a back slide?

Again, I am 100% positive you can do either of them based on all you've shared over the past months.

We'll all be here to cheer you on with whatever choice you make!!!

Curt, you're completely spot on.

I also forgot the "Laughing" when I posted, and I couldn't edit when I went back to it later.

I know I could do it. Is it too much too fast? Quite possibly. I think for next year, I may stay shorter, but if all goes well, look out 2013
