![]() Well you are both doing better than me. I've just been sitting in the recliner eating lasagna all afternoon. I was getting ready to go to the trail for a run when it started to rain. So I sat back down and picked up my fork instead Lent begins this week and it seems to be my excuse to eat sweets again. I am completely unmotivated to fast from anything this year. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I tried a little bit of swimming yesterday, swimming back and forth in the leisure pool for 15 minutes. I don't think it was good for my elbows. So I will likely just go back to taking a complete break from swimming for another couple of weeks... Oh, and I forgot my goggles of course! So that was humorous... I got to practice some sighting. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well no training for me today. I took a pass on my long bike ride today I was just too sore and too tired to do it after all the freaking shoveling I did yesterday and didn't really want to do a half hearted effort. I had to work last night as well and was falling alseep on the call I was on. Busy day though for me this is the first chance I had to sit down and catch up. Lot's of stuff to do around the house and stuff to do with the cars. I had to head out to get a new battery for the van and I could not belive how bad the roads still are here. It is an absolute mess, the Long Island Expressway is closed in suffolk county until 5 pm as they are still clearing snow and cars. There so many people out on the roads I could not believe it. There were people walking, riding bikes and there was one dude in one of those motorized chairs I was like WTF? The snow is like piled 6 feet high in places! The roads are so bad why would you be out doing any of that stuff if you really didn't have to be? I would not even thought about going out if I didn't have to today but I had to get the van going for tomorrow. People are complaining about the roads not being cleared yet but they totally lack any understanding. The county executive is telling people to stay home so they can remove cars stuck on the roads so they can clear them. These poor guys have been working around the clock to clear the roads as well and you've got people complaining becuase they want to go out and get an ice cream or a freakin latte or sometihng just unbelievable! Stuff like this just annoys me. Tomorrow is going to be a nightmare because they haven't got to alot of the secondary roads yet. |

![]() Tony good luck getting around in all of that snow. Yuck. I don't want to see another drop of snow here! Sam sorry to hear your elbows are still bothering you. Hopefully the rest will help. Well I peeled myself out of the recliner and completed a 6 mile run. Maybe not my best idea after 4 helpings of lasagna but I made it. This is officially my longest run since I raced the HIM which was June of 2011! How is that for patience trying to build back from scratch? This whole last year has been nothing but trying to find some way to run consistently and not hurt myself. I'm satisfied now. I really don't need to run any further than this. I want to race an Oly this summer and the only thing holding me back has been my running. I am so much further along than I was at this point last year. Now I just have to hold on and not hurt myself along the way. This might be my greatest challenge |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here is the slightly edited version of my training day: "While I was setting up my bike trainer, I smashed the base of my big toe on the behemoth. ~bad words~ I limped to the couch and put an ice pack on my toe for about 15 minutes. I decided to pluck up the courage to get my butt off the couch and onto the bike. When I put my bike shoes on, I realized that my big toe is quite swollen. Who cares! Get on the damn bike! Thirty minute mood adjustment complete. Bring on the red wine!" Nothing takes your mind off a broken left foot like smashing your right big toe! |

Oh no, nothing makes me cuss like smashing a toe except maybe installing a car seat. I didn't realize your foot was broken all this time! Sending you some healing thoughts. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well I did something a little different tonight. I started off by going to the sauna for 5 minutes- I thought it could serve as a start to a warmup! Then I did the spin bike for 20 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of running on the treadmill. Then I stretched for 20 minutes (more or less because with the ST challenge there needs to be at least an hour in between 2 runs for it to "count"), then I got back on the bike for 40 minutes, then I ran for another 30 minutes! Most of this was moderate intensity, nothing too hard, although I did go for a strong half mile to start off the second run, and that had me tired for basically the rest of the run even though I slowed down! Plus I started to get a bit hungry during the second bike session so I was probably running out of energy! But I finished nonetheless!! Speaking of pigging out, that was me Friday afternoon- I could not stop eating the rice krispie treats and dark chocolate truffles that I bought at CVS! (They were on sale!) I was giving myself the excuse of, "well, I will make tonight my long run so the extra energy is okay"....... even though I really wasn't sure if I would actually follow through with that! But, it worked! In my mind I had it that I had lots of energy from all that food I ate, and I got the run done! |

If you don't feel like you're gonna die after doing any intervals at 20 MP then you aren't doing it right or aren't working hard enough. Don't worry it only gets worse from here. |

I was running on the treadmill this morning in hopes of knocking out a 9 mile run. Well, my right knee tightened up at the 5.5 mile mark and I walked/ran to the 7 mile mark. I was pissed and threw my headphones on the treadmill and got off to do stretches. The guy next to me looked at me like I was a looney - I am sure he was hoping to at least jog 2 miles at a 11:00 minute mile pace. I ended up using the last 20 minutes in the gym to work back n biceps and ended up doing squats. I have another Half marathon next Saturday and it doesn't look like I will be setting a new PR. Unless I take on the mantra - "Who cares... bring on the red wine".. at the finish line that is. |

I was doing it for awhile last year, but haven't been doing it at all the last 4 months. How much does it really help? I'm not sure I'm the best to comment on swim topics, but I can comment on the seond question for sure. Until this winter, pretty much 100% of my swim training hag been either in the lake or ocean. So sighting isn't really incorporated into my training as much as it's a necessary part of it. I think during races it really does help me as I really don't think about sighting, it just happens because I'm so accustomed to doing it. So there's no conscious effort to figure out how to sight. I know from video of my first 70.3 that a lot of people swim a LOT more than 1.2 in a half iron! Edited by wbayek 2013-02-11 9:25 AM |
