Erica, would you want to try doing the Hyannis half? It looks like Team Vixen will have a presence, MAV our fellow POG is doing it too.  I  would like to give it a shot (that is if I ever make time to run again), there is a 10K tooif I chicken out.  I've never run more than 8 miles before.

fwiw

Kristin and I are considering doing it as well

and.............well, I've never run more than 8 miles - I'm currently doing a novice 1/2 mary training plan and will be doing my first 1/2 mary at the end of Jan

WOW- how many days a week are you running?  I do my longer runs as run 8 minutes & walk 2 minutes.  I would probably do something like that just so I know I could finish.  I am so slow it won't make much difference in my time.

so interestingly, I'm running/wralking 3x a week

Sesh - (Bill) sent me a novice 1/2 mary training plan tha has been just great for me

I am slower than slow, I am in it to complete not to compete, well you know what I mean

I've got a couple of plans I've picked up in various places but nothing really formal yet.  3 days a week is perfect, is there a link to your plan I could look at?

Beth- Am I remembering correctly that you are also thinking of doing your first oly this summer.  I am thinking the same and may do the Cranberry Fest race- it's also close to the cape but is a pond swim, kind of nice to not have to worry about waves, tide & salt.  Maybe we can help each other stay motivated.... Or was that Mel's post I read about any OLy....

It may have been Mel's post, I've done a couple of Oly's - that is probably the longest distance I am looking at doing this next season, so for sure we can help each other stay motivated!

Howdy-ho-ho-ho, Vixens!

Spending my night at work very productively, working on Christmas presents. This is the puzzle one - printed it out on the fancy-schmancy color printer, then had a seriously hard time getting it glued onto the puzzle pieces. Now I'm just waiting for it to set up before X-actoing it apart. Is "X-actoing" a word? Hmm, is now! I had everything I needed at work except, would you get this, a glue stick! I forgot my spray glue, and had to search all over for a lowly glue stick! I had X-acto blades coming out the yin-yang, a light table for goodness sakes, but not one glue stick! I finally raided someone else's office and found one shoved way in the back of a drawer. Thankfully it wasn't dried out yet.

K, 'nuff rambling, hope everyone has an awesome Friday!

Slugger - 2008-12-17 2:08 AM Okay, Vixens, I have a dilemma and I need your help. Choice 1: Go to parents' house on 24th, be there for Christmas Eve. Choice 2: Stay with BFF on 24th, drive to parents' house on 25th. Choice 1, expanded: My dad (priest) will be tagging along with my mom (deacon) to the church she serves with once a month (normally she serves with my dad). So this will be his very first Christmas since before seminary (20+ years) that he'll be in the congregation. And he'll be all by his lonesome. Sad, huh? I want to go with him. Also, I want to spend Christmas Eve with my parents, and it'll give me more time to see them. I have to talk my dad into letting me crucifer at the late service so *I* don't have to sit in the congregation by myself. Choice 2, expanded: I really want to spend Christmas Eve with my BFF. Okay, there's more. I mentioned a couple weeks ago that wouldn't it be fun if BFF and her girls came with me to see my parents after Christmas. Then I renegged, saying I wanted to go alone. So now I feel guilty, and think I should spend Christmas Eve with her to make up for it. Plus, I like my little church's Christmas Eve service, and I'd get to go with BFF and enjoy the service from the congregation. I'm about ready to flip a d@mn coin. Input?

I vote for BFF's house on Christmas Eve. There is something magical about watching children on Christmas Eve. Reading the "Night Before Christmas", making cookies for Santa, etc. Besides, I need pic's of my future daughter in law!

Ah, no kiddos - they are with their dad Christmas Eve. Besides, I'm ready for a break from these particular kids, thus why I renegged on having them all come down with me. But I will get you a picture as soon as I remember to bring my computer to work!

Jacquigirl - 2008-12-17 6:55 AM

which choice would make you the happiest?  go with your gut... and drink heavily.. ha ha...

good luck with your decision.. is there no way to do both and expand the holidays ???

i still want to know what lutefisk is...LOL

jgirl

Honestly, the choice that would make me happiest is to go down and be with my parents. But I've got the whole guilt over withdrawing the invite, and plus I want to see my BFF open her ultra cool presents (and spend forever puzzling them out!). The whole dilemma is about where to spend Christmas Eve - only one of those, no way to split that one up!

I should let the Norwegians/Swedes answer, but lutefisk is fish that is prepared for something like a month by salting and freezing and other weird preparations - it is VERY hard to get right (my coworker tried one year, and it was a miserable failure - it shrank into nothingness!), but I gather that even "right" it is gummy and salty and generally fairly gross, if you weren't raised with it. Kinda like Vegemite that way!

I would love to!  B will probably be here so I won't even have to worry about the kids!  Shocker!  When I did my half in October, I didn't train enough for it.  My longest training run was 8 miles.  I ran the whole half.  So, even though your longest run to date is 8 miles, you can still do it.  Of course there is still plenty of time for more training.  My finish time was 2:29:32 so I'm no speedster!  But I had a blast.  It would be even more fun to run with fellow BTers, especially Vixens and POGS!

Well, Vixens, I didn't get up at the crack of stupid to run this morning.    I actually had a good nights sleep!!!  Finally!  Ahhh, feels so nice to wake up refreshed!  I will get something in this afternoon before the boys holiday sing a long/parties.  I'll have to take pictures, Cole has a new argyle tie he picked out.  What a crack up he is!

Geez Slugger, that sounds like a lot of work!  Nice to know you can work on presents while being paid to be at work!  Sweet!  Did you get it all done?  How'd it turn out?

even if  you were raised with it, it's slimey and gross - nasty really, we have it every Christmas (well my parents do).  My brother and I finally put our collective foot down and refused to eat it any more -

it only took us until we were both in our thirties - LOL!

the really funny thing is that it's really a totally American thing, when my parents went to Norway, they came back and told us that the Norwegians there laugh because we eat it

Yeah!  Looks like at least 4 Vixens planning on Hyannis. Kristin, Beth, Erica & me.  I will sign up this weekend. I will need the encouragement when the runs get longer and the weather colder.  I think this thread needs to continues at least until then.

Ya know, I really would consider this too. I actually signed up for the marathon last year but couldn't go because of injury. But, I'll have closed on my house the week before and will be using those last 2 weeks of Feb to move.

How about you all run the race, then pop on down to Jersey and bring a pickup truck or two?

Done with the cakes.  Didn't have time to decorate them like I wanted to but oh well! I did get them boxed up all nice though!
