Veteran 198 British Columbia | Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! CLOSED Lisa...hope you had a great race. Kevin...hope your back is feeling much better. Will take your advice and try a short swim workout later this week. I am starting to feel much better. The bad cold that I have had for nearly two weeks is finally gone and my shoulder is starting to feel much better. Starting a cleanse tomorrow that the Naturalpath has put me on. No wheat, dairy, sugar, coffee or wine. It is going to be hard to give up my coffee in the morning (okay the wine as well ;-) ). Have dropped 5 lbs with this cold and hopefully a few more with this cleanse. Have a great week everyone and train safe.

Not Wogged... slogged. It's not speedy, but it was 5km in 30 min... non-stop and no pain. Still had to ice the back and achilles afterwards, but I was good. Felt great to not be worrying about anything and just running. My pace was pretty steady... and my HR was even steadier. So... maybe by May I'll be running 10k again. :D Yay!!! |

Veteran 137 Lakeland, FL | Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! CLOSED Good evening everyone!! Sorry I've been out of the loop for a while - I've been really busy with work, family and dealing with yet another nagging injury to my foot. I started doing training runs a few weeks ago with a group of pretty accomplished runners here in town and I guess I over did it. A friend of mine owns the local running store and gave me some good advice after talking to him about it. He reminded me that my cardiovascular abilities will many times far exceed the ability of my body to train at a certain level - specifically when it pertains to running. I love to push myself, but with running I've got to someday learn that it not a good idea. I'll continue to do tempo runs with them on Thursday mornings, but I'm going to pass on the speedwork on Tuesdays - as Helen reminded me in chat the other night "speedwork is the devil." |

Extreme Veteran 396 | Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! CLOSED Hi everyone, I started my official 1/2 ironman training today. I started last week, but with parent/teacher conferences, I couldn't get in the 2 a days. How much can I vary from the plan and still be ok? It has me swimming on days that the pool isn't open. Way to go Lisa!!!! It has to feel good to have the first race of the year finished. Kelly |

CLOSED Bopper - 2010-03-08 8:48 PM gojogo - 2010-03-08 8:40 PM Hi everyone, I started my official 1/2 ironman training today. I started last week, but with parent/teacher conferences, I couldn't get in the 2 a days. How much can I vary from the plan and still be ok? It has me swimming on days that the pool isn't open. Way to go Lisa!!!! It has to feel good to have the first race of the year finished. Kelly Kelly... the idea of the plan is that it's a guidline. You can vary the workouts to the days that you wish. The whole idea of it is that you don't increase your training time by more then 10% a week. Also, it will have periodization weeks that are lighter weeks which you MUST heed. The plans don't work for everyone, so you must rearrange the schedule to fit your life... not the other way around. Good luck Kelly. I hope you have a great time training and have a super time during your race. Yes to echo what Kevin said the plan is a guide...you CAN switch things up BUT you must be mindful of several things when you do shift stuff around. When your rides and runs get long you want to make sure that you have adequate time to recover from them....... especially the runs. Also be careful when shifting the 2 a days......meaning if your plan has you running an hour and a half and swimming 45 minutes in one day its probably not ideal to try and squish a RIDE in on that day instead of a swim. Now you know I am the Hippie Dippie Princess when it comes to training...never have followed a plan. But even so I respected the "rules" to a certain extent so that I did not get over tired and injured. Also......IMHO the 10% rule is certainly very important for run mileage.....but much less so for bike mileage. As long as your fit is ok and you are comfy on your bike you can ramp up your bike mileage more liberally. |

Running is the Devil... if you ask me. So why is it we all want to do it? Welcome back Mike. Sorry to hear about the nagging injury. It's quite alright if you're not in the challenge... it was always just a fun optional motivator for some of us sluggards. You take that back young man!!!!!! |

Veteran 198 British Columbia | Subject: RE: Come and play with aquagirl and mav ! CLOSED I wish!! Don't tempt me Helen . I am already trying to convince myself that there is nothing wrong with wine (it's just fermented grape juice and I'm allowed fruit on this diet). Was really grumpy at work today, but they have been warned (lol). No chance for a workout at lunch (didn't get a lunch or a coffee break today). They have to stop having council meetings...it's interfering with my workouts. Will try again tomorrow.

Been using my pool after runs as a sort of ice bath - seems like it really helps with recovery. We have the heater off and its probably around 45-50 degrees - Have a good day everyone |
