I swim in an outdoor pool. living around seattle we are used to the rain and in the foothills I always get snow. Today was a first swimming with snow falling on my face. Pretty cool. Most amazing thing ever. I love swimming in the rain ... can't even imagine swimming in the snow! Uh ... how was that getting out? |

I have since upgraded the exhaust to Vance and Hines Straight Shots and forward controls. I love the feel of the deep rumbling and thunder sound of the bike. (yes, I was the little boy who always had the most baseball cards taped to his tires when I was a kid). Believe it or not they do sell racks for motorcycles that allow me to carry my tri bike. I'm thinking of getting one this spring. Imagine the look of my P2 or P3 in tow all decked out with race wheels cruising down the highway! Haters gonna hate but I love it!! Oh Jimmy ... that is AWESOME ... starting with your new avatar (yummy!), then the bike, then cards on the bike, then the BIKE on the bike ... |

I did put the clip on aerobars I had purchased on my bike though. I'll be riding on Thurs, so we'll see how they feel. Apart from that, I made it to the gym, did a 20 mile ride, and then repaired the minute little rips in my wetsuit...I am now all set for my season...if only the local lake would fill up. How was the first aerobars ride? Has the wind died down over there? |

Member 892 England | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED Did some core training for the first time today. going to incorporate it three times a week from now on as it doesn't take long so i can crack it before work. Also had my longest (in time) bike ride today of 1.5 hours. only hit 9.6 miles but the whole route was one long hill after another with almost no flat sections at all so i really felt that i had a good workout. Still having to use my heavy steel mountain bike that jumps between gears so the 9.6 miles isn't that bad considering. My friend works in a bike shop in Leeds and has offered to sort me a Specialized Allez or Secteur at 40% below retail so i am going to start putting a few pennies away. Which do you guys think is the better? The Allez is more race oriented but less comfortable over distance. My first thoughts are to go for the Secteur as i think i will enjoy riding with less stress but having not ridden a road bike for years, maybe i will simply get used to the one that i start with. Finally lost some weight after 2 months!!! I have dropped by approx 3 lbs which is a good start. I have been following some advice from my son who is a qualified personal trainer and it seems to have started working. |

Coastal Carolina | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED Yup 100km ride, there will be several groups out there I'm thinking of trying to hang with the 18mph group for the duration. Ithink that will be doable but can always drop if I need too. The BT answer for which bike is going to be whichever one fits you the best. I have no knowledge of either so I'm no help.
Well Yanti at least you can't say you are going to take it easy on your vacation. |

Extreme Veteran 525 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED You shouldn't have a problem hanging with the 18mph group. I ride 19-20mph on average over 40miles but find when I'm riding in a paceline my average speed bumps waaaay up. |

Have you had a chance to think much about your hydration plan on it? I'm asking because it took me a bit before I had a setup that I was comfortable with and I want to make sure that you've worked it out before heading to Melbourne :-) |

It should be nice because my son is also entered to run as part of his work team. Hope that i don't overshadow that little race that Yanti has going on the same day!!! Will be thinking of you Yanti as i drag my sorry over the finishing line. In fact you will probably be finished in a quicker time than me |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED jmkizer - 2012-03-10 9:29 AM TriAya, I know that you have a new tri bike. Have you had a chance to think much about your hydration plan on it? I'm asking because it took me a bit before I had a setup that I was comfortable with and I want to make sure that you've worked it out before heading to Melbourne :-) This is an excellent question that I've given much thought to and very little action. I can grab a downtube bottle keeping the other hand aero and not miss a beat. (Not true for the seat tube, although since it doesn't interfere with pedaling it's a good place to keep an extra bottle). Aerobar bottles are not available here, although come to think of it I should MacGyver one just for the practice. I did have an aerobar bottle on my last tri bike (admittedly, a few years ago) and used it right away and thereafter with no problem until I sold the bike. So the hydration plan is this: buy an aerobar bottle (and a poof if need be) in Australia for water, and get it worked out in the last two short rides before the race. If it simply doesn't work out, then it's going to be the Camelbak (love the Camelbak, have used it for many years and many long rides). Gatorade (race drink) goes in the downtube holder, and water in the seat tube bottle. The Gatorade is backup drink and calories. The main nutrition plan is a Powerbar (230 kcal) every hour and 650-750mL water. There'll be other munchies in my Special Foods bag if I want them. Nutrition plan for the run is eat whatever I can easily eat and still tolerate at that point. |

You should overshadow me! Don't run 10K tomorrow (you won't, will you?). Add a couple kms this week to your longest run (4k or so right?), another couple 2-3 next week ... and then let the mystery of the 10K be just that for the race. Running too much or too hard too soon is far and away the number one cause of injuries in new triathletes. Coastal Carolina | Subject: RE: Yanti & Lynn: Manatee Madness Mentor Group CLOSED So I tried to keep up with the big dogs yesterday... Was in a good group and we were rolling pretty well at about 18mph maybe a little more at times and I felt comfortable. There was a pack in front of us going 20+ when the owner of the local trek store and a cuople of guys on his team came up to us and asked to try to catch them, I tried to hang but couldn't so I ended up missing a turn for the route and went on a 20 km detour before I figured it out. Still was able to do 61 miles in 3:22 and could still walk after so it's a plus. I think I do need to upgrade my saddle from the stock one I have now any suggestions? Also my toes were feeling kind of numb most of the last half of the ride is that cleat placement, speedplays, or something else?

Are you using good quality bike shorts and slatherfuls of lube everywhere? What is it exactly about your saddle and nethers (please go into way-excruciating TMI detail here) that makes you think you need a different saddle? Have you had a professional bike fitting done lately? Numb toes could be truly nearly anything, from nerve impingement from a position that puts undue strain on your lower back, to the same but on one or more of the perineal nerves (perineum = taint), to body/knee position relative to your feet, to yes, platform/pedals/cleat placement, footbed, shoe ... All of your toes, or just a few? On all sides/under/over/down to which joint? Tingling then numbness, or just numbness, or both, and is it partial or complete numbness (for example you can feel your fingernail scraping over the skin, but not very well = partial)? How long did it take for normal feeling to come back? |
