You've been waiting to ride in 23 degree weather, or waiting to ride trails? 23 sounds cold! It was 23 earlier here today, brrrrr.

Thanks Karen - but apparently for short bursts. In light of recent posts and my 1/2 Mary time, I think I fit the bill for the anerobic athlete.

Great start to February, 2100 in the pool and 1:10 low cadence on the bike tonight!!!

I am incredibly amazed in this weather (below 0 windchills, especially after the 60's on Tuesday) that I am able to force myself in the pool.  I HATE being cold and the water is so cold and swimming hits every cell of your skin ... no hiding!

My flip turns are absolutely horrendous!  Really need to work on those. Any good videos I can watch?  I come off the wall pointed straight or down ....

Also, I am finding, maybe just a coincidence, that since starting hot yoga, I am colder ... I don't need fans to work out, I get cold without them, and it takes me several, I mean several laps to warm up and not be freezing in the pool.  Coincidence?

Here's a good post / video on how to do flip turns -- http://ironmomma.com/2011/04/23/how-to-do-a-flip-turn/

Thank you, Thank you! Also sorry to hear about your fall. I hope you are feeling better! Be careful and let it heal.

Ok I think I am caught up on everyones posts! You guys have been crazy the last couple of days! I had a 3x20 min run test today. Whew I am beat! My heart rate got up to 185 in the last one :/ but it was suppose to be all out and that I did! Here is my numbers. Bike numbers are lower but it maybe to the changes I did the in trainer. A bolt came loose so I had to redo everything. Better to just keep it there and that way everything stays consistent now.

January's totals:
Bike:15h 50m 01s  - 158.09 Mi
Run:8h 22m 09s  - 48.65 Mi
Swim:5h 49m 41s  - 18120.24 M

Just finished 1:30 on the new saddle. I think it's a keeper, I made it to 53 minutes before I had to stand up, so that's an improvement from the 30 - 35 minutes on the other one. By 1:20 I was ready to get off but toughed it out.

Ha ha Karen. I've been waiting all winter to get on my mountain bike outdoors. Had a fun ride today on the trails. It was cold, but for the most part you're protected from the wind while on trails. I'd never do a road ride in 23 degree weather.

Run tests are painful.  It takes me a week to mentally prepare myself for them, but they are very, very satisfying after.

That actually sounds horrible to me, but I am sure you don't mind since your background is swimming.

I was kind of 50/50 on this one but I was pretty happy afterwards. I always worry about going out to fast and wearing my self out in the first set. However, I am getting better at it and being pretty consistent

Can anyone recommend a good ankle band for the band swimming drills?

Finis!

You can also use a bike tube.  Not as pretty as the Finis band but just as effective.

The beautiful thing about swimming is the quick recovery time.  A three hour run with some intensity thrown in requires quite a bit of recovery.  A long swim, not so much.

I just looked back at my logs and the most I have swam was 6000 yards - open water (so give or take whatever for zig zagging). I can't imagine 8000, in a pool! How do you not lose it? Music? And no cramping of the feet or legs?

Heading to the pool now.  Will do about 5000 this morning and another 3000 this afternoon.  No music.  I can swim in the pool forever.  Growing up I would swim doubles and then in college we would swim in the morning have actual water polo practice in the afternoon.  Its just gets kind of normal.

I've always believed that people who have a swim background have a huge advantage when getting into triathlon.  Comfort with the water can be difficult for adult swimmers and if you come into the sport with a certain comfort level that's a huge advantage.

Wow. You folks on the bike trainers are amazing. My hindparts start rebelling if I go much longer than an hour, and I've had my saddle choice dialed for years. Someone said it earlier, I think, but it must have something to do with the lack of motion on the bike when you're on the trainer. And I'm also in the camp that can't imagine 8000 m swims. Guess this means I've got a long way to go...
