Champion 6962 Atlanta, Ga | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Pegasus1731 - 2009-08-11 6:03 PM Question: I've got a 3 hr ride on Thursday. I really want to do it on the trainer. And to be totally honest I'd really like to do the majority of my rides from now till race day on the trainer. Avoiding the possibility of getting hurt and fitting this in with classes are my main two reasons. Really bad idea or ok? I personally don't think it's a good idea. While the trainer is a great tool, it does not mimic outside riding. If you can get outside, get outside. You will have to work on things like looking around you, dealing with gradient changes, heat, weather, etc when you ride outside. Riding on the trainer for a long ride cuts all of those out. No adjusting for potholes, looking ahead (strengthen your neck), changing gears for the terrain. Unless there is a good reason, ride outside. And not getting hurt is not a good reason (IMHO). You haven't gotten hurt thus far right? |

However, I want to buy some IMKY stuff for a few friends this year. Does the IM merchandise (including "finisher" merchandise) typically sellout? Do I need to get to the IM store early? |

All the "normal" S, M are gone asap. The XS, XL and 2xl are the only ones left. I went on the second day of the expo last year and there was nothing in my size. After the race I went about 2 hrs after for finisher stuff and same thing. |

I hit the finsher's merchandise about 0800 the day after. It was already slim pickings. So yes. |

As you start your taper, you will get sick and the body will begin repairing itself. So it's perfectly natural to get sick about a week out from the race. |

Expert 1325 Findlay, OH | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I guess I'm in the minority here on who is announcing the event, personally I could care less. After crossing the line last year I was in lala land and had no idea who was saying what. The chute was so bright with the lights and loud it was like running on to a concert stage (IT WAS AWESOME). I was much more excited to find my wife and family who drudged around KY for 12hrs. Anyway my $.02 Hope everyone has a great race regardless of who is announcing!!!!! |

It shouldn't be happening now unless you've started an artificial taper, but each person is different. Or that could not be the reason you're sick now. |

Master 1411 Lexington, KY | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread GP160 - 2009-08-12 1:48 PM GOOD NEWS HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great news! FWIW - I broke my wrists (radius bones) in a crash during a race on July 18. The left is mostly healed, but the right one is too sore to swim without support. So, I'm swimming with a brace (bought at a pharmacy) on my right wrist. Was able to swim 40 minutes straight last night with no pain. It's slows me down some, but better than nothing at this point! |

Expert 713 Lake in the Hills, IL | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread What is everyone's "long" taper workouts for this weekend looking like. My taper got moved from 2 weeks to 3 due to illness. If I feel good by this weekend I will probably do 3 hours on the bike with a 30 min run afterwards. Then an 1:30 run Sunday. I am flying by the seat of my pants because my plan changed. So what do you think of that plan and what are you guys doing? |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Pegasus- For what it's worth, I agree with Marvarnett. I think you should ride outside UNLESS there are issues you are concerned with that might present danger. For example, if your studies/work take up your daylight hours, then riding inside might be your best choice. However, if riding indoors is going to make you most comfortable, I would still try to get at least a few outdoor rides in for the reasons Marv... noted. Peace, ~Sam |

Expert 868 CALEDONIA/MIDDLEVILLE, MICHIGAN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread moabrunner- This is my last "long-ish" stuff this week. I did a 1:20 swim today in open water; I'm looking to ride about 3 hours Friday and run about 1:45 Saturday. From there everything will be much less. Mostly rest and filler. |
