lilly- The race is Sunday, I guess I would recommend, you not do anything super fast or super long on Saturday. Other than that, as far as the Grand Rapids event, the hay is in the barn. I'll be there too, but I won't be doing the run, so unless you drop out, you better beat me.

BGANNAWAY- I'll be wearing the required swimcap and my goggles. Anything more is ...well...extra.

Actually I'll be wearing what I have on in this photo. I'm sure it's hard to see. Tri-shorts, cap, and goggles.

I also plan to swim in only tri shorts, cap and goggles.  I do plan on a bike jersey in T1 and changing to a different top in T2.

I'm in the 8th week of my ironman plan, which is a recover week. All that was on the plan today was an easy 40-mile bike. My husband wanted to do his first 5k and asked me to do it with him. I agreed since this was an easy day. I ran the 5k in 23:15 and placed 1st in my age group, so I'll call it speed work. My husband came in at 24:30, not bad for his first 5k. After the race I did my 40 mile bike on a 10 mile loop, my husband did the first loop with me on his hybrid bike and I did the last 3 loops by myself. It was nice to spend the training morning with him, I feel like I haven't been seeing him much between his work and my training.

Jillian - Glad that you got to spend some time with the hubby racing and training. Spending time with my wife has definetely suffered and is starting to wear thin on her. I'll need to correct that soon.

This weekend I'm camping with my son and the scouts in Birdsboro, PA. We are camping at the Daniel Boone homestead. Today I did my 3.5 hour bike and 30 min run brick and for some reason I had convinced myself that the Eastern part of PA was flat. I was way wrong. The ride started with three miles of climbing to French Creek State Park and then a lot of rollers to the turn around. Same three miles greeted me on the return trip up the other side of the ridge. So much for an easy flat spin. All in all a good day, the boys learned a bit of history and I got to ride some new roads.

Now it's time for walking tacos and smores!!

Just for everyones FYI, back on Nutrition in the Heat. .....
Did a 2:45/50 mile bike today in 95 degree heat with heat index around 100....(10min warm, 2:15 @ Z3 (140-155 HR) then 15min @ Z4 (157-160's HR) then 5 min cool down)
Drank two 20oz bottles and a 24oz bottle of Powerbar Endurance, ate 1/2 clif bar and 1/2 power bar and had 2.5 gels from a flask, plus 4 Salt Stick Elecro Caps. Ate every 30mins:
gel, bar,gel,bar,gel...etc
Timex Global Trainer said I was burning 680 cals an hour at that HR.
I have used this for 70.3s and its works good for "me", just need to adjust liquids in the Heat.
Once I got home, had two 24oz bottles of Powerbar Recovery, so you get the message, you need a lot of Liquids/Salts/Fuel in the heat.
Happy/Safe training everyone!!

BGANNAWAY – I’ll be wearing a 1 piece tri suit the entire day. Makes transitions much simpler IMHO. The less I have to mess with in transition the better. This is the one I have:

I raced a HIM this year using this suit and it worked well.

Hey everybody,

I haven't been on this thing for awhile (sorry about that). I haven't trained last week bc its was the last week of school. I can't train this week bc its finals week. It absolutely driving me nuts! I can't wait for school to be over so i can get back to a healthy diet.

I uploaded some Ironman Kona videos for motivation (i have 2010 but can't uploaded bc of youtube copyright).

Marcus- Thanks for the inspirational vids.

Anyone- Another, ever exciting episode of the Road to Ironman Louisville is up. It has segments from the Grand Rapids Triathlon, which I did the swim and the bike in today. From a perception perspective, I think I did fairly well, but the results have yet to be posted on their website. I'm anxiously awaiting that opportunity. Below is a direct link to the vid, or you can go to my blog and go to Episode 11. Peace.

I raced an Olympic today pursuant to my training plan.  I have a 70.3 (BSLT) in a few weeks.  Then its countdown to Louisville.  Holy smokes this is really happening.

I ran the REV3 Quassy Half yesterday. What a great time.... but definitely a tough course. I must have been crazy to pick it for my very first half. Now that I have that under my belt I feel much more confident that I'll be able to complete Louisville. While my time was nothing to brag about (7 hours on the dot) I was in great shape at the finish. I really didn't push it as my goal was to finish. I had no idea how I'd feel since this was my first race at this distance. I will admit I spend a bit too much time at transition.... 5:29 on the swim to bike....what was I thinking:-)  The run course was insane.... hills, hills, and more hills. That said I highly recommend the race to anyone looking for a great half. The course is beautiful and its a very well run race.

rafikichapman: Great Job.

Got 18 hours of training on tap for this week. I think my coach is systematically trying to kill me. Got a 6 hour brick in the 90+degree Alabama sun this Saturday. Your prayers are accepted.

Made it through the half ironman in Macon last Saturday.  5:48:36.  Treated it like a business trip, and got some good practice in the heat.

I feel much better about my chances in Louisville now.

I'm racing a sprint this weekend (Saturday) near Charlotte, NC.  It is sold out for Saturday with 800 entries.  They have an identical race on Sunday, but only 400 or 500 signed up so far.  It will be my first race since HIM in May.  I'm really getting excited to race again.  Water temp is expected to be in the high 80s.....not looking forward to that, but at least its only 750 meters.

Great racing everyone!

I needs lots of positive energy this coming sunday. I am doing the Clermont Half challenge located in Central Fl...yes...it is actually hilly! woohooo and the temps are expected to be in the 90's with high humidity. I am a little scared but this is "practice practice" for me ;-).

Cross fingers!

Have a great week everyone,

Congrats to all the great racers out there!  And best wishes for upcoming events!  We've got two, maybe three Olympic distance tris coming up in the next 2 months.  Not many HI distance races around here, and I've pretty much spent all the $ I can.  But I'm looking forward to them since only one, the Lumberman up in Cadillac will be an entirely new event for my wife and I.

I've been experimenting with salt replacement with Hammer Endurolytes and will report with more confidence when I've been using them for a bit longer.  So far, seems to be helping.

Tailwinds, y'all,

Todd

Question reg hotels..

Can anyone recommend one or more hotels to stay near the finish line? Are the hotels on the race site near the finish? Any info is greatly appreciated, I think I need to make reservations this week.

Thanks! Alicia

Right at the finish line was Hyatt and Hilton.

Near the Finish - Hampton Inn, Galt House (host hotel).

Galt House is closest to the start.
