Speaking of HTFUing, I did that tri today. They still haven't posted results and I have no clue what my times are. I'll update when I know. The highlights are that I didn't drown and that I have two very successful snot rockets.

Snot rockets are a learned skill, like flip turns....

***YANTI SNARK ALERT***

So I meet the blond Kona-be piglet this morning for our first official coaching session ...

This is a really good thing, by the way, because it means I actually uh, show up early and swim train instead of just splashing around in the ocean and taking pictures of fish as is my custom (sometimes).

The first thing I say to him is, "Strip." (I have GOT to do this for a living. People pay ME so they can strip. Awesome!)

Oh no, that's not snarky. That's just saucy.

Here's the snark. (insert standard preface about what I like about TI: very good at building a stroke from scratch, a few other things)

This guy has gone to THREE weekend-long TI seminars. He has a TI coach from whom he gets follow-up instruction. He has spent, literally, THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of dollars and countless hours practicing their drills and using their recommended toys.

And in a year and a half, he hasn't gotten faster.

All that money, all that instruction, all that time, and nobody, not once, taught this guy how to pull correctly. The one thing that actually moves you forward in the water ...

So I'm thinking, maybe he's just a real hard nut to crack and has two left feet (arms?) and is stiff as a board in the water.

Nope.

An hour with me and the guy's blowing through the water like a possessed dolphin and the pull is a hip-driving, far-reaching, solid-anchor, deep-catching hot-hot-hot full body pull. And with that comes a fantastic body. Uh, position. Body position.

I asked him, "Nobody ever taught you this?"

"Nope," he answered. "It feels completely foreign to me. But certainly it works!"

Of course, we also did some breaststroking. You've always gotta breaststroke. Because somewhere, in there, if you really watch and feel it, is the perfect freestyle pull.

Flotation devices!  Man, I'm gonna stuff some down my wetsuit and see if it helps me.  If they don't, I'll pull em out and suck em back and then I won't care!

There was actually a BTer, back in the day, who took and drank beer cans (multiple) on the run leg of a triathlon.

Ok, I need y'all to make up my mind for me.  I am leaving on Tuesday to head to Calgary.  I have to work tomorrow, plus I have chiropractor and massage appts.  I also have to drop one dog off at grandma's.  On top of all that, do I travel one hour-ish to get to an OWS?  I will be going by the race venue on my way to where I am staying (it's about an hour away from there), so could try and get one in there, but there may not be others there (safety factor).  What to do, what to do....

one swim doesn't seem worth the stress. Isn't your race in a week anyhow? If so, no workouts this week are going to do anything for your performance.

If you feel your lacking confidence in ow, maybe it's worth getting some in before the race but it seems to be you've got enough experience. But then again, only you know the value of the confidence.

ebshot - 2012-07-23 1:36 AM I am exhausted.  I spent about 5 hours painting our shed.  Ugh.  The weather was perfect though, sunny and 70's.  I wanted to ride the trainer today but there is no way I am doing that now.

I have a run on tap for tomorrow morning and it's my weekly weigh in day.  I hope to see the scale moving downward.

Good luck with the weigh in
