Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED carrie639 - 2011-06-14 1:16 PM So I figured it got almost 220 miles out of my running shoes. Since I bought the purple pair the same time and rotated them, they got retired too. Do those miles seem right? I just don't want to wear the purple til get how the blue ones have and have my whole body sore again. Thoughts? What do you guys do? 220 seems low, but I think it depends on the shoe and how you run in them. The outer heel is the first to go on mine - my husband says I shuffle. I say I'm saving energy by not lifting my foot up anymore than I have to! But I can usually get 300 out of a shoe. I do buy the super cushioned neutral expensive shoes though. When I wore the Nike Vomero (like running on clouds) they wore out much faster so I stopped buying them and found some that last me longer. When in doubt, I toss them. I've had too many injuries to try and eek out a few more miles in a pair of shoes. |

Well that just ruins Happy Feet for me. Thanks a lot!!
I saw the trailer for Happy Feet 2 the other day...FYI. Just back from golfing with my Dad. He's in town for 2 weeks, so I'm trying to still get 3-5 workouts in each week, but have to entertain the old guy, too. |

Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED So is 300 miles the standard for running shoes? I know it can vary, but is that a good benchmark. How do you tell? |

Sit my parents in front of a TV with ESPN on and both are happy whether in my house or theirs. |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED I did call Roadrunner Sports and told them the mileage I had on my shoes and how the salesguy insisted I would get 500 miles out of them and they are swapping them out for a new pair!!! YIPPIE . . . a new pair of $140 shoes So maybe its a fluke that that pair went at about 220 (or sooner, who knows), but now I am super sensitive about the purple ones. Do I push those assuming they can get more miles? I certainly don't want to go through the knee and back pain I had last week/weekend . . . Again, how do you know when to retire them without getting to a point where your body has to let you know? |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED OMG, so I didn't tell you guys that I took Briggs running again this morning and not only did he poop at 0.32 not even close to a garbage can, but he took me down trying to grab grass to eat (tripped over the leash)!!!! Not road rash thankfully, but his ears might still be ringing from my yelling at him!!! I can laugh now, but it wasn't so funny this am. He was very cautious the rest of the run Anybody run with their pups? Will a harness work better? He is still on the prong collar I usually use.

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED So talk about a sick joke . . . got an envelope today from USAT . . . I got honorable mention and qualified for age group national championships for the aquabike. That is just mean . . . I got first place in a race I did last year, yes, but I am the only one that competed. And to qualify me in a year that I am not biking at all or swimming much . . . just not fair. Can I delay to next year? I qualified at the half distance, does that mean you compete at half? |

Master 1832 Elgin, IL | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED My other lab actually runs on the treadmill and loves it (the mom, Bella). She's jogging on there howling and barking and carrying on . . . but I practically have to drag her on walks . . . That would suck to carry your dog home . . . |

Master 2151 Johns Creek, Georgia | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED We have 3 dogs - 2 pit boxer mixes (same litter & the best dogs ever) and a Rhodesian Ridgeback. I take one of the pit boxers running with me often, she loves to go and is pretty good as long as she's the only dog. If any others go she has to be in the lead and it gets to be too much trouble. She knows if I'm going by what I'm wearing and the shoes I put on and always "assumes" she's going too. She does not do well in the heat though, so summer time she rarely goes. The Ridgeback was supposed to be my long run running partner but she had health issues from the time she was about 1 so she never really was leash trained. Now she's unruly and if you know Ridgebacks personalities she pretty much thinks the world revolves around her and also has ADD. A leaf, cat, rock, anything, and she's investigating until she sees something else. I need to work on her manners on the leash and start taking her. We use this leash which only really works for well behaved dogs - http://www.ruffwear.com/Just-a-Cinch-Slip-Lead-Dog-Leash-Climbing-Rope-Inspired-Collar-and-Leash-in-One-by-Ruff-Wear?sc=2&category=15 For the Ridgeback we use Gentle Leader and that works well for her. If she tries to pull it's uncomfortable so she stops. |

HalfMax (USAT Long Course National Championships) has an aqubike division (its the only national championship that has one). http://races.ultramaxtri.com/2011/halfmax/info/ The race is in SC and the course is well, not so great. Last year the swim was canceled because of e coli levels so they started us on the bike in TT fashion. The bike is a double out and back on the highway. Not really exciting. But, it is a national championship, and is cool to say you qualified and went. |

i tried running with my Labrador, but after a mile i gave up, she was too interested in everything else than running, lol. Nothing like being in mid stride and she would decide to stop all of a sudden because she smelled something. |

Expert 1121 | Subject: RE: kaburns1214 Mentor Group 2011 Part 2 - CLOSED Just when I get started to work on my swim volume, the town indoor pool shuts down for adult lap swim for the next 2 weeks due to swim classes. My first Tri is not until August 7th (Niantic Bay with Kelly) so I have some time, but not a lot. I think I am going to just swim shallow in the local lake starting next week. I'll ride there, so it'll be good practice with tranistions at the same time. Kelly, if you have this weird guy hanging on to one of your legs during the swim, don't worry, it's only me!! On another note, I just downloaded "I'm Here To Win: Chris McCormack on the Kindle last night. Got half way through. It's not a long read, 300 pages or so. I'm still learning who athletes are in this sport. Apparently he's the cocky bad a$$ no one likes. While reading, I actually started to dislike him, simply due to his arrogance. But the further I got into it, you start to realize he's just confident, and his trash talking is all strategy, and it WORKS!!! Check it out, he's an amazing talent, who blew up and gave up at Kona a couple times, but then went on to win in 2007 and 2010, as the oldest ever. |
