How is it going, Princess of Sweetness and Light?

Yeeeeeaaaaah that's what I'm talkin' about!

It's pretty awesome. I feel okay today, and a super-super BTer and her husband (travljini) came to visit and we visited a beautiful temple ... but the highlight of my day was they had an amazing traditional dance performance, but ... it was more like a montage of traditional dances with some modern twists. Hard to explain, but it was a total blast from the past for me. I don't know how to explain it, but it would be like, for a child, being taken to a favorite fairy tale performance for the first time ... anyway, this would have been a recap of it. Such nostalgia and it was a good performance.

We have clown gods and such in our folklore. They fart around. It's just awesome. Explains a lot about me.

The Geezerettes did highland dancing which was the culturally appropriate choice based on family orgin.  No clowns or farting--around or otherwise, pretty stiff actually.   The dancing is a competitive sport.  The Highland Games are fun though.

I have competed in Scottish dancing in Highland Games. The crowd was around 20,000 (benefits of growing up in one of the biggest cities in the world). I love bagpipes and tartan. My favorite is watching the caber toss.

Wow, I can hear the music for the different dances in my head now. What a wonderful memory. Today has been just like that.

I need to write my Scottish dance instructor ... she runs a B&B now somewhere near a loch in Scotland. Her daughter was around my age; we grew up together and I'm still in touch with her, too.

No kidding.  You are no end of diverse  and fun life experiences.  Highland dancing is the only sport I know that men and women compete against one another on more or less equal terms.

My girls' first and best teacher was a gay ballet dancer from Canada.  He was also director of the local civic ballet and got shafted by the ballet board.  He moved to England. I regretted how he was treated. Losing him as teacher hurt my girls' development.

My girls got to the professional level of dancing where they win prize money rather than medals but never with 20,000 spectators and never overall winner.

Kudos! Very impressive. Heh. Well, I certainly never won any money dancing ... uh, not Scottish dancing, anyway. Ahem.

Well, out with it, man!

I always wanted a kilt but they are very expensive.

The story is really a prank I played my father.  So one year, we invited my father and mother to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games.  It is one of the biggest in the southeast. He was clinically paranoid about any effeminate behavior.   I called him and told him I had kilts for him and me to wear to the games.  He was in a panic on the other end of the line.  He hung up and told my mother, "We won't go. We just won't go."  She had to tell him it was a joke before he blew a gasket.  We went to the games in pants and he was fine.

The closest I ever got to buying a kilt was a tartan tie in the family clan.  But, I always smiled when I saw the vendors at the games who made the fancy custom kilts and thought of my daddy.

Fathers are funny!

My dad was very fussy that he should be well dressed and washed and his hair done right to go into the hospital ... even though he would just be put into hospital clothes there.
