That sucks hard! I hope you heal up soon. Maybe (don't tell Dee) take time off of swimming? I can't imagine the chlorine is good for it? Hmm, I don't think this is a good case for tasering. Does that make me a bad team member?Had to make an emergency trip to the eye doc today. Turns out I have an ulcer on my eye. Which explains why it hurts. A lot. Now I'm stuck wearing my glasses for at least a week. I do not have any "sport" glasses so running and biking should be interesting. The ole rimless specs aren't exactly rugged and tight fitting. And swimming - swimming could be interesting. I'm blind as a bat with out the coke-bottle lenses. Might have to spring for the optix goggles. On the plus side, the glasses cover up the racoon eyes tan line. I've got a swim workout scheduled for wednesday. I guess I'll find out then. The good news is, I think I'm healing up. It no longer hurts to have a left eye. Seriously, on Saturday I could have sworn that someone had jammed a cattle prod in my eye and left it there. It took lots of ibuprofen and a few vodka tonics to make me feel even close to human. I hope your eye is feeling better. Did they put that fluoro green stuff in your eye? Nothing quite that cool. Just some boring yellow dye. My eye was glowing bright red for most of the weekend. I looked like Ren from the Ren and Stimpy Show. Happy, happy, joy, joy! ETA - And the eye is feeling all better. Hopefully I'll be back in contacts by the weekend! Edited by esc 2008-09-16 8:16 PM |

Expert 1318 | Subject: RE: Whips, Cattle Prods & Tiaras (Four-Is-More Challenge) A quick drive-by tonight. Thanks for all the inspires yesterday and today, team. For those of you that are requesting pics of me in the underwear from this weekend -- I'm working on it! PS - I squirted a dog in the face with water tonight on my run. THAT was fun. |

Master 2201 Elgin, | Subject: RE: Whips, Cattle Prods & Tiaras (Four-Is-More Challenge) Boy did I need a rest day. Though I didn't really want to take one, my body was so tired and beat down, I don't think it gave me much of a choice. Tomorrow I will try and get some biking and swimming in. Thursday and Friday are both runs. Sun will be a 10K race. We will see what else I can squeez in here for this week. |

I *heart* New Hampshire. It's been too long since I have been up (like 8 years). I need to plan a trip up soon, before the snow hits!!!! New Hampshire took awhile to get used to, but now I totally love it. I actually LOVE winter now, which is totally and completely bizarre. Come up and visit! I'm trying to get Dr. Hammer to come up for a backpack... |

Vanilla vodka is more powerful than I ever imagined... I like. |

I've been training hard - swam & biked on Monday, ran 10k yesterday, then 3k this morning and did some weights too. I'm hoping I'll still be able to get up in the morning tomorrow and run again - here's hoping My husband and I went out last night and bought some paint. We're going to do a few minor renovations around the house. Well, thats the idea anyway, I have a bad feeling its going to get WAY out of control *lol* There's your answer, Gil! I love renovations that start out with one very small bottle, usually of epoxy. They end with a hotel room for at least a week while everything "sets" in one form or another. |

Master 2665 The Whites, New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Whips, Cattle Prods & Tiaras (Four-Is-More Challenge) Thanks for all the replies on the running thing. It had actually never occurred to me that my recovering tendons could be slowing me down, bizarre as that sounds. But it makes sense. I think I'm going to play with my pace a little bit, but not so much I'm really pushing hard. I think (and am going to test out in itty bitty doses) that I can step it up a bit, given how much rest I'm doing. I've had several completely pain-free days, and I'd like to keep it that way! I also think I need to re-work my warmup. For some reason I've shortened it from my standard five minutes of increasing speed to just two, or even sometimes one, minute, generally without doing much more than kinda just walking, with no purpose other than to get to the running bit. That would explain why I'm dragging at the start - I haven't let my body figure out we're doing the energy-expenditure thing! |

I can make myself do it on a treadmill but on the road I walk about half a block before I'm all, "Yup. Feeling good and warmed up. Let's get this show on the road." Then it's a suffer-fest for the first mile. |
