mmurf - 2011-06-10 11:45 AM Not going down to LOU tomorrow, but am next Saturday. You make it sound like there are groups there every week to do part of the course....is that correct??

Not every week, but there is a group from iamtri that puts on some organized training days/weekends, here is the info:

http://iamtri.com/group/ironmanlouisville2011/forum/topics/imky-2011-group-ride-dates-and

Anyone is welcome, it's a great opportunity ~ check it out!!

Did my last fun sprint yesterday. Placed 1st in my age group. Missed 3rd placed overall female by 43 seconds. Only a few more weeks until the Muncie HIM.

TriSam: Thanks for notification. Always cool to watch the pros do crazy fast.

JillianO: Great race. Those are the ones you could just do day after day.

I spent my Sat on a long brick. Did 93 miles then 7 mile run. Hydrated better this time and felt as good as you can with a 6+hr brick. Did about 2600ft climbing but course is more IM Wisconsin than IM Louisville but I'm hoping for some muscular endurance.

You guys have a safe week of training.

JILLIAN- You are tearing it up! Way to go! Love it!

BGANNAWAY- Here I thought I was all that and a bag a chips for going 89 miles, and you post your wicked workout. Good work! I averaged a little over 20 mph and was feelin' good. I got to about 87 miles and I ran over somethig. PSSSSSSSSSSSsssssssssssst!!!! Nice. Changed my flat and finished out the ride. Enough with the flats already! This is my second this year. At least nobody had to come and get me this time. Temps here today were at 50' when I stared. I finished with 55'. C'mon. Bring the heat.

TriSam: No Worries. You got me on speed. I checked my tires after the ride and gladly found a shard of glass that was working its way deeper. Removed it but I'll probably have to get some new rubber. Flats suck, I agree.

New Year's Resolution: I will refrain from raising my middle finger to every redneck that tries to run me over on the bike.

Just call me Doc.

BGANNAWAY and Sam, great workouts! I'm following a 20-week plan, but after reading that I feel like I need to step up my game.

Nice job guys on all your results!!

Did my third race of the season today/2nd Oly: Westpoint Lake Oly in Westpoint GA.
5min PR and 6min off last year in 2:28:29
swim: 30:12 (timex global had it at 1.21mi.)
Bike: 25mi. in 1:09:15 (about 21.8 mph avg.)
Run: 10K in about 7:45 min miles. Faded a bit in the second half but ran mile 6 in 7:24!
Placed 7th in AG, just thrilled with the PR and 6min off last year.
Next up: Muncie 70.3!!!

Had a great day of training in Louisville yesterday!  1 mile open water swim (to the end of Towhead Island and back), 80 mile ride on the course (the whole course, minus one loop), 2 mile run on part of the course.  Fabulous day, felt great!

I HIGHLY recommend one of these training days to anyone that can make it.  The Iamtri group puts on an awesome day.  Highly organized, very friendly volunteers, great directions, awesome SAG stops.  These guys do a great job!

I'm happy to report that the river swim was not really that bad, no river monsters or anything creepy at all (although, I will admit, it did have kind of a fishy smell....lol)!  The bike course was awesome, I have been super nervous about that (weak biker here!), it is hilly, yes, but mostly rollers with plently of time to make up speed in aero.  I think the festival in the town of LaGrange will just be amazing come race day!

11 weeks from today folks!!

Congrats, Jillian, Cube, and all!  Had a great "mini-tri" workout today with 1250m in the pool, and then jogging out to my car and meeting my wife for an easier ride for about a hour and a half, and then pushed a 5-mile run.  Yeah, I know.  Pretty "small potatoes" compared to the very impressive stuff y'all are doing out there, but I sure felt great (love those tasty "small potatoes")!  For me, it was just one of those days when it all comes together and you wish it had been a race day.

My first tri of the year in two weeks:  South Beach Olympic at South Haven.  Hopefully, I can hit the Big Water for a coupla long swims if the temp gets at least 60 degrees ... brrrrrrr.

Tailwinds,

Todd

Good day for me as well--60 miles on the bike and a 7 mile run brick.  I stopped more than I wanted to on the bike.  Peed twice and watched a black bear for a little bit.  All the tourists that stopped to get a glimpse got their monies worth.  This sow was not phased at all.

I should have pushed 10 more miles on the bike, and probably would have if not for all the stops.  I was really happy with my run.  I didn't feel as though I was doing 8:15 minute miles, but the watch doesn't lie.

Jillian- I'm not sure I would be riding quite this far yet, but remember...I'm not really running, so I need to draw fitness from other places.

tsoule-The South Beach Tri looks interesting. I wouldn't be shocked if I found myself on the starting line of that event at some point. As far as the water goes, I hope it get's warmer for you. One year I did the Ludington event and the water was 50-something. They shortened the swim so we wouldn't all get ice cream headaches without the benefit of enjoying the frozen treat in question.

Wooohoooo! I completed the Clermont Half Challenge on Sunday ;-)...not my best time by far but given the conditions I feel really good about it. It was 97 degrees!!!! It was incredible. The bike was hillier than I ever thought Florida could be, imagine a 12.5% grade here in the swamp land?? I do have to say I am very nervous about the bike in Loui...given the rolling hills...hmmmm

Despite my slow time of 7hr20min...yeap...turtle...I am proud that I did it in such harsh conditions ;-)

This is an awesome race and highly recommend it!

Alicia...Great racing everyone! you guys ROCK!

Question for Louisville veterans about the swim conditions...I know the water will be warm, but how about the surface conditions (smooth vs. choppy/rough)?

I completed the Ironman Kansas 70.3 yesterday (6:11...not very fast but for me it was a new PR by 8 minutes...yes!) and the lake swim was rough...very choppy...challenging conditions. At times I felt like my body was a small boat, rocking over the little waves.  Thankfully we made up for it with perfect conditions for the bike and run.

For Louisville we start off swimming between the island and shore, so I'm anticipating that to be smooth water (right?).  Thoughts on how choppy it can get out in the open river?

Oh and by the way, Chrissie Wellington was also at Kansas 70.3...she posted a 4:11.  Is it just me (relative beginner), or are the pros unbelievably fast?  If I would have started at the same time as Chrissie, she could have finished, then relaxed and watched an entire movie before coming back to the finish to watch me finally cross the line.  Crazy.

Congrats to everyone on their success in training and racing.  A little humor for Monday morning:

I normally wouldn't admit this, but we are all kind of like family now.  In my sprint race on Saturday, I was hoping for 1:30:00 and I finished in 1:30:53.  I feel OK about my time because I've never done this race before and I didn't know how the transition area was set up.  But here's the funny part.....I got "chicked" (by 10 seconds) by a girl in the 10-15 age group!!  Boy, those young ones really can swim and run!!!!!!

trirun- Good work! Thanks for sharing.

reagan- Good job as well. ....IMLOU water: When I was there I don't recall the water being rough. In fact, I remember it as being relatively calm, except for what the athletes were churning up. Every day is different though, I'm sure.

Sprint tri this Saturady - 1/2mile s / 12mile b / 5mile r

Hoping to place in my age group again!

I'm thinking of purchasing an aero helmet for more speed. Thoughts on a good purchase? I need it to be well ventilated for IMKY.

Fesslern,

Good luck Saturday!  As for the aero helmet, check out the Lazer Tardiz.  I got one off bonktown earlier this year (for about $80), and have been using it for quite some time now.  I used it in my HIM with no problems, as far as overheating goes.  One special feature is the "aquaport".  Basically a hole in the top where you squirt water over your head.  Kind of a nice feature.  This helmet has become my "go to" helmet.  I haven't worn a normal helmet in months.

Alan

There seems to be some nice training going on.

I just completed Eagleman on Sunday.  Hot but not as hot as years past.  I did relatively well for me except the swim, of course ;-)  2 minute bike pr - YAY! And my run was strong.  Slow but strong.  I didn't taper and kind of wanted tired legs and certainly got that :-)  I usually fall apart on the run, so it was nice to be in a zone and stick to a plan throughout.  Walked the aid stations for 1 minute tops and moved on.  Other half IM's in the past have been suffer fests for me especially during the run.  I focused on nutrition and while I didn't NAIL it I did do much better and as a result I think I had a better run.

If only I could swim a little better :-)  I'm currently working on it.

Completed my first 2.4 mile open water swim of the season. It was with a wetsuit, but it's a start. I completed it in 1:13:20, which is normal-ish for me. I would like this kind of time without a wetsuit, but I haven't attempted that yet this season. I was inspired to do this workout by Cube...and I don't recall which of the ladies did this as well.

I found new spots to apply Body Glide. My skin is still burning where I need to put it. I guess this is one advantage to a non-wetsuit swim eh?

I did a 2.4 swim last weekend and found a new spot as well on my neck - It was awful for days after.
