Veteran 406 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Gary, +1 on the no new wardrobe needed. Just go out there and have fun. At my race they gave me a number for my bike helmet and for the bike. I wore my race number belt for the run but if I had to wear it for the ride it would have gotten in the way. Pin it and forget it sounds like a good plan to me.

Planned on trying it out last night when I remembered some post from Freddy. Found it and put my suit in a some water last night to hydrate. Will try it out tonight. I am really hoping my bike arrives today! Technically bike parts but still. Mav, will have to track down your RR. |

Oh forgot to mention...I think it is likely that I will meet the double ironman challenge for the month of February. How is everyone else doing? I think Leston went on an extended vacation, Dan is probably bowling and hopefully Pete is relaxing in Cuba!!!! |

Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Mav, Great pics! I have to go read your RR. As for the Feb challenge, I will hit it with running and swimming but not biking. Having my bike in the shop for a week hurt. Got my new bike today and have ordered a few parts, salsa handle bars, shimano cranks, Volce brakes. Mainly ordering used parts to keep cost down. Put on my wetsuit tonight, yep sausage casing! Not a pretty sight but it fit. Felt a little tight around the chest and tough to get off the calfs even with body glide on. |

Extreme Veteran 1338 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Mav - awesome girl....I will go read the RR since you are lazy....you can't even cut and paste it?????? Gary - pin number and go....no worries since there is no swim....wear the snuggest shirt you have but either way it won't be a big deal.....enjoy the time....don't overdo it on the first run.....dus are really tough....like Mav said - nothing new on race day....you might want a tri shirt before your tri but it is not required.... I am a touch short on the challenge on the run....I am heading to Dallas Ft Worth area to run part of the cowtown marathon with my brother this weekend....I have really enjoyed the biking this month and the swim lately....I am ready to get after this stuff again. keep up the good work all.....you rock!!! |

Extreme Veteran 1338 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! GAry.....apparently you didn't read about that in the old posts.....PAM does work really well but I don't like the greasy feeling....I am more a fan of body glide....any slick gel or spray works BUT do NOT use anything petroleum based...they can ruin your neoprene. I will be out this weekend...running with my brother during his first marathon. Bryan |

Extreme Veteran 750 Long Beach, Mississippi | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! You can add a finish line to the group! I did an unexpected 5k this morning - I'll copy and paste from my blog, so you don't have to go over there to read it... I skipped both of my training runs this week due to bad shin splints on my run last week... so this morning, I decided I would do a 5 mile run. I knew there was a group run nearby, so I decided to run with the group - I had never run with them before, but was told that if I ever wanted to, I was welcome as a TnT member. So, I showed up to the run at 6:35 for a 7:00 run (took me less time to get there than planned) The store owner comes out, and says that the run is cancelled due to the Boystown 5k race... so, I drove up to the race site - got there a bit after 7 for an 8am race. I KNEW that I didn't want to push myself too hard (due to the shin splints) so, I TRIED to tell myself that it was "just a training run" But, I knew it was a race too... anyway, I did a nice 2 mile warm-up (no shin splints) and got to the race site at a perfect 7:45 - in time to stretch and go... but we didn't go... race started at 8:15 - just in time to have cooled WAY down... oh well... Some announcements, and we were off... My first mile went well - I ran it with a woman who said she doesn't usually run, but we were running at the same pace - we ran it in 11:19 MUCH to her surprise - then she started walking, and I continued to run... I was feeling pretty good, and ran the 2nd mile a bit faster 10:56... I tried to run the 3rd mile even faster, but also felt myself bonking big time! I ended up having to walk twice... but kept pushing, because I KNEW I had a PR in me! 3rd mile 11:20... then I sprinted to the finish... I started to lose my breakfast right near the finish... so I said, "tell me when I can stop" They announced "Time: 34:23, you can stop now" YAY a PR!!!! (old PR 34:56 at my first 5k ever) then I went to the dirt, and puked (Is there a better way to say this?) I guess you can say I left it ALL on the course! Not bad for a race that I hadn't planned on!

Pro 4360 Baton Rouge area | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! Nice Job Diane! Back from my Dua - looks like my official time is 1:15:53. I am beat! The bike ride was windy first 5 miles into the wind. Avg 13.5 MPH. Return 5 miles with wind avg almost 17mph. According to them my avg was 14.5 mph (garmin says 15mph). For the running, according to their time I ran the first 2 miles at a 8:12 pace and the last 2 miles at a 8:55 pace. I must have read it wrong. Cramped on the first 1/4 mile out on the 2nd run but it cleared up and off I went. Full RR later, have to go fix the electrical on the septic tank. |

Extreme Veteran 1338 | Subject: RE: left.right.repeat group -closed - Full of a bunch of winners...YEAH! 2 finish lines added.....great races to you both... Hey, a little puke never hurt anyone.....good job! Gary....those are GREAT runs....wow....FBP - we may have another fleet footed turtle My brother finished his marathon.....it was really fun surprising him at mile 3....he said he heard people ringing a cowbell and yelling from quite a ways off and thought....while that is really nice, the neighbors are going to be angry at being awakened by a cowbell....about that time, he thinks....you know, that guy running out of the crowd to join the race is going to get in BIG trouble...what does he think he's doing...I think I recognize him....he looks just like my brother.....holy crap....it is my brother....what are you doing here.....and Debbie and Taylour are here too...that was THEM with the cowbell....oh wow...so we had a fun day....I ran 13 and a half miles with him.....the day was perfect temperature wise....high thirties at the start warming into the low 50s but the wind was blowing anywhere from 10 mph to 30 mph....and it seemed to almost always be in our face.....our logistics plan worked really well after the first drop/pick up of me....we all saw him at mile three but instead of getting picked up at mile 4-4.5 it was past mile 5.5 before Deb and T could get to a spot to pick me up....from there on, our plan worked great....he never ran more than about 2-2.5 miles without us hooking up with him and us running together for a while....it was really fun.... sTRIve....ThRIve...TRIumph |

Gary you are SO fast. Nice work. You are going to have so much fun at your first Tri and you are ready. Sausage casings are helpful. Practice getting out of it. Seriously Pam makes the donning and removing very easy. Or you can use body glide.
Bryan, so happy you got to run with your brother. It is a very special time to share with your family. I really enjoyed having my son in the race with me last weekend...even though I didnt see much of him once we got started |

Gary honestly you keep getting faster and faster. And I totally agree. You are oh so very ready for that tri! Bryan, what a nice surprise for your brother. Too cool! We've all had a big weekend it seems. My DH to be moved this weekend. We are in the same city now. Finally the end of this long distance stuff. That's for the birds. He went from being 500 miles away to about five minutes away. And in 34 days we'll finally have the same address. No races for me for a while. But I will continue to serve in my official Turtle Cheerleader capacity. Go Team!!! |

The RD had just called out my name and was cheering me on. It was fantastic! Hey all I swam with the masters class, note that I said swam with and not stayed with. It kicked my butt. Couldn't hang with them but I tried. Spent some time analyzing last years results from the two upcoming Tri's. On the rookie Tri I should place pretty well. On the sprint I will probably come in the bottom 1/3 depending upon how well my swimming and biking go. Off to go see an LSU basketball game. Catch ya all later! |
