I just finish a HIM and my next one is in 21 weeks.  I am trying to decide how I want to continue forward.  Do I start at the beging of a 20 week plan or do I start near the end and just keep doing the last half of the plan.  Any sujestions.  I don't want to loose any fitness.

JoePetto - 2011-04-11 8:08 PM I am in week 9 and looking for a race for the end of the recovery week. I got two choices a 10K or a short dual (2m x 12 miles x 3.2 miles). While the plan calls for a 10k running negative splits on each 5K, my hip is acting a bit funky. Don't want to push it too hard on the 10k, but I know if I go, I will definitely go hard. The dual may be tough due to rain. Thoughts appreciated?

If your hip is funky, NEITHER!! Which is more important, this weekend 10K or duathlon or your HIM? Please be careful and don't do either race is your hip is acting up AND you know you have trouble moderating effort in a race. Save that fighting spirit for a more important day.

kathy caribe - 2011-04-12 7:26 AM As a general question, I know it is "okay" to move the days of training around (in the plan, i.e. I'm in week 8 and I'll move this sunday's workout to Saturday instead) but is it "okay" to move specific workouts around?  I'm very comfortable bricking B+R so I don't think I need more practice at that so I'm thinking of moving specific workouts (S, B, R) around the week.  I plan on doing the practice tri this weekend (and I've done them already in my training) so I wouldn't split that apart, but the other day's workouts?

Why do you want to move the workouts around? Is there a reason you need to do this? If so, it's ok to do what needs to be done to make then plan work for you. But also, the other workouts are not meant to be done back-to-back. They are meant to be separated by hours, like one workout in the morning and one in the evening. You can switch which one you do in the morning versus evening if you like. That doesn't make a sizable difference.

It's ok to lose some fitness. You want your body to be able to recover and rebuild. You can't hold on to peak fitness all the time - not even the pros! That's why we use a training plan. It build us safely and allows us to recover, build, peak, and recover again. Start from the beginning. You will be amazed at how much faster you get going through the plan the second time.

2/3/2 or 3/2/3 .....or whatever you call it???

stroke stroke/breath stroke stroke stroke/breath stroke stroke/breath stroke stroke stroke/breath

I get in 7% more breathing and that seems to make a big difference.

2/3/2 = 33% breathing

bilateral = 26% breathing

Thanks DV!! I will give this a try tomorrow.

Just checking in. How is everyone doing? I am having a difficult week. Husband has been out of town, basement was flooded earlier this week, headaches (probably due to hubby being gone and the basement flooding).  Hate it when life gets in the way of my training LOL!

I'm on bike focus week. Did my long ride yesterday while the weather was nice (turning nasty for the weekend). It went fine but I had hoped to be a little faster than what I put out last night. There is still time to work on it though.

Just to fit better into my schedule.  I'm never really sure how work is going to go until the day and if it is slow I can move a long day's workout to that day and if busy, grab a rest or easier day.  Does that make sense?  I'm not looking to do more bricks - just move days around and move workouts around in the week.

It's strange but I tend to feel the worst during recovery weeks - maybe it is all that training catching up with me.

Well I went into my week 9 1000 yd swim TT with very low expectations and not much enthusiasm.  In week 13 I swam the TT at 17:03 (1:43/100 pace) and was stoked.  After doing a 200 yd warm up, I hunkered and had to HTFU! A 1000 yards later, the clock said 16:09 (1:36/100 pace)!!!!  I pushed hard for the last 200-300, but was astonished with the time.

I'm very pumped needless to say, glad that I sucked it up. Hmmmm . . . maybe all this training stuff really worksTongue out

Great swim.  That is some great progress.  I have my 1000 scheduled for tomorrow.

Expect it to be one of the best days of your life. Few people ever work so hard for one day. Your training will pull you through and the smile you have on your face as you cross the finish line will be like nothing you've ever experienced. Good luck. We will all be with you in spirit.

I started thinking today about my first HIM in August. I think my number one goal is going to be to have fun!

Sure I'll be interested in my time

Sure I'll be prepared with equipment and nutrition

And there's no doubt I'll train with vigor, passion and intensity between now and then....

But when it comes time for race day, I'm gonna be sure to include a few things to keep me relaxed and able to enjoy the experience. I figure I'm MOP at best, so what's the point in getting all nervous and anxious. I'll save that for KONA later this year (come on lottery!!!).

One thought I had was to put one of those old fashion thumb-operated bells on my bike to give a shout out to my supporters. Weight Weenies will have a fit!

I also thought about squirting my wife with my water bottle on the way by. I should probably read the rule book on that one :-)

Alas.....this is where my mind goes on cold bike rides.

I haven't posted in here for a while because, well, I haven't started the plan yet and it took me a while to realize that chatting with you guys was silly since I wasn't doing the work.  But Jordi, you & I started in this forum right around the same time and I have really enjoyed reading about your progress from the beginning until now.  You've come such a long way, you've worked hard, you've had a great attitude and been a great supporter of everyone in here.  Wishing you all the best in your race!  Don't let anything discourage you, just keep on rollin' (or swimming or running Wink) and have fun.

I'll be in here in a couple of weeks when I actually start the plan.  Be aware that I've been stalking you all for months.  Cool

Lots of nervousness and excitement in the beginning.  Then, as you see yourself moving along and saying to yourself over and over, "holy cow! I'm doing it, I'm actually doing it," a massive dose of giddiness will come over and carry you through when the going gets tough.  As you near the end, you will likely get very emotional thinking of the hundreds of hours you put into training and all the sacrifices you made. And you'll sport a huge grin!!

I wish you lots of good luck, lots of mojo and no flat tires!!  Don't forget to get your sticker after getting the medal.  You know, the one with 70.3 that most folks don't know what it means but for us is the real reason for doing it LOL

So, I am in bike focus week and about to head into a recovery week. At the end of recovery week I am tempted to do a HM, that just happens to be going on in the town i'll be in for Easter. I will still have 8 weeks before my HIM and I would just use it as a long training run really.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Good idea/ bad idea?

Honestly that's how I've felt the whole time and how I still kind of feel.  But...after training very hard over the last 20 weeks I feel like I'm capable of a bit more.  Yes, I'm MOP at best and will be happy if I finish but know that on a good day and if things go right I can blow the thing out of the water.  That being said, I'm going to really have fun and enjoy the race, but definitely go hard.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement.  Everyone remarks on how time flies by which I sort of agree with.  I haven't agreed with it more than these last two weeks.  The time between two weeks and race day is like nothing.  There's not much you can do at that point to get ready if you aren't and not much you're supposed to do anyhow.  For some reason, these have no doubt been the quickest two weeks.  I haven't always thought time was flying by, despite really enjoying my training, but I do now.

Thanks once more, and I will be posting in here after my race.  Enjoy the weekend everybody!
