Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh believe me I will. Sorry, I am Project Manager and numbers are important to me in my work so I could not resist reviewing them. Running the numbers (especially the swim) confirmed for me that I will be ready, I never expect to win races but knowing the numbers adds some comfort for me. Even if they were pointing to a dead last finish I would be happy. My biggest concern is getting in enough long rides. I have picked out two more Tris for the rest of the year than it will be 1/2 training. Those ones will be harder as they won't be wetsuit legal but a couple of months of swimming with the masters class will get me ready! Unfortunately LSU lost but it was a good game! |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I really need to go back and read the old posts but until then 1 question. I have seen pics of guys leaving the water with their shirt on but wet. I can imagine this saves a few seconds in transition and one less thing to worry about. On the other hand you are wearing wet shorts and shirt until they dry out. Hopefully the quick dri stuff kicks in and I can imagine that in warm temps that might not be a bad thing? Question is what do you folks do? |
![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() I've have yet to change my shirt in transition!LOL The tri clothes dry so fast you wont even notice it. The bigger issue is getting your feet dry and sand free to put on your bike shoes...that takes some practice. I ran once without socks and got bad blisters. Wont be doing that again ![]() |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've only done one tri but it was on a very chilly Oct morning. Wore a tri suit. Swam biked and ran in it. No issues. Like Mav said, it dried out so quickly that I didn't even realize it. I've having some shoulder issues. Seems to be getting worse. I might take a complete break from swimming. The pain is intensifying, so something's definitely going on in there. Going to doc and PT. Hope to get to the bottom of this soon. DH to be and I went for a ride together. He's so good on the bike. Riding together is really going to help with my prep for the MS ride. Fundraising goal is pretty much met. I think I need $ 10 more. Less than a month to go...and no Bridezilla moments yet. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() OMG - the thread is up to page 83!! It's going to take me days to go back and read all the posts that have popped up since last I was here. Back from a couple of miserable weeks of illness followed by a one week vacation in Cuba. Had a fantastic time. We were at an all-inclusive resort in Cayo Guillermo. Weather was good but not stiflingly hot. Staff at the resort were absolutely fantastic. Whatever opinion one may have about Fidel, certainly the "regular" Cuban folk are wonderful. My training consisted of swimming to the pool bar and running to the buffet So, back to reality today and planning a return to training as well. FBP

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Freddy! Welcome back! Two funny stories for all of you: 1. The route my wife most often takes home is on a 2 lane back road. It is also a designated Bike Training road. Not sure why, it's a 55 mph road with very little shoulders but I digress. Needless to say during the summer there are quite a few cyclist on this in a very aero position. With that their (could be) best part is sticking towards motorists and most cyclist are wearing the shiny lycra. With that my kids have named them the "Shiny butt club". They were most amused when they found out daddy had joined this club. 2. Ordered some Tri tops including an Orca. Well I didn't pay attention and it is a race singlet. I ordered a large but it was not large enough. I put it on and before I could take the offending singlet off my wife chirps in "it looks like a man bra". I will be putting it up on eBay tomorrow. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Tri's are not for the self-conscious, that's for sure. Well group, I'm happy to report that fundraising is now complete. Yay! Let the training begin. Future DH will be a big help on that front. He's been riding for years. He's much, much faster than I am (who isn't?) but fortunately this is a charity ride, not a race. Today, we went for our first run together. He's not a runner, so at least for now, that means I can keep up.Turtle is definitely an apt description of my pace. It's gotten better but I still plod along. Happy as can be. Enjoying the beauty that is spring. Birds are singing their little hearts out. Trees are starting to bud. Even with allergies, this is my favorite time of year. Physical therapy has begun. I wish I had done this before. I'm amazed at the difference it makes.

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here's a story about the "Blind Guys Tri Team" that I will be a part of this summer. recently appeared in the Globe & Mail, the main national newspaper in Canada: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20090306.wltriathlon06/BNStory/lifeMain I went to the pool yesterday and did a bit of a workout. Nothing too substantial since it was my first swim in close to a month. Today, I am ONCE AGAIN congested so I now KNOW that it is the pool water causing me grief. Next step is to find a medication that will help 'cause I ain't givin' up swimmin' !! Brian - your story about your brotyher and the cowbell reminds me of my first marathon. It was in Dublin and the night before the race I had met a fellow from my hometown in Ottawa, in fact from my old neighbourhood, who was there to watch somebody else. At Mile 19 I saw a big crowd of Canadians cheering and holding up signs. I thought to myself, how cool that they are there cheering for their friends. As I got closer, I saw the fellow I met the day before and he had a sign and I thought, how cool that he has a sign for his friend. As I passed the sign, I realized that it said, "Way to go, Peter from Ottawa West". I was too dopey at that point to process the info until I was a few yards by him. Otherwise I would have stopped and had a picture taken. It was the most motivating thing ever! Sad to report it is snowing (again) here after a couple of lovely sunny days with temps above freezing. No outdoor cycling or swimming any time soon! Great races run by y'all lately. Way to go!!

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Looks like I'm doing the Bike Race for corporate challenge this year YIKES!!! But I was the only woman in my AG for our company that's silly enough to sign up, so now I CAN'T get out of it LOL. Problem is, I have a tri bike, and the race is on a track - I think it's a mass start, but chip-timed... do you think I'll be okay on the tri bike? I know it's less stable than a road bike, but I like it better than my hybrid for racing... Any advice on this type of race? It's not til April 29, so I have time... |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() IT'S REAL!!! I just received this email: Thank you for being a part of the 2009 RAGE Triathlon! Yep, I'm just freaking out a little... it's normal isn't it?? |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Diane - Congratulations!!! It is going to be a blast! A memory for a lifetime. We all know you can do the distance, so just go out and enjoy yourself. Leave that obsessive/compulsive/analytical numbers-driven person at home. She'll only steal your fun. Bring your Penguin heart and your Turtle determination and you'll totally ROCK this. Race day is the celebration of all your hard work. It's party time!!!

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Diane you will do great! Just do your best to relax and enjoy it! BTW - My bike won't be ready until Monday - Grrr! I think I will have to call him on Friday just to remind him that I need that bike by Monday. This will give me less than 2 weeks to train on it. Granted the first race is only 6 miles. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Love reading all these posts about people getting ready to race. Woo hoo!! Go Turtles !! No races in my immediate future Tonight my university hockey team (the UNB "Varsity Reds" ) plays Game 1 in a "best of 3" series for our regional championship. I'll be there to cheer them on of course. Regardless of outcome these two teams have a berth in the National championships that start in two weeks time. We are currently ranked #1 in the country so hopefully we can bring home a championship. Not quite the same profile as March Madness but still a big deal 'round these parts. Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gary, the bike portion of your race is even shorter than mine was. It'll be a blast. Rookie tris are sooooo much fun. Mine was full of novices and kids and people who looked as awful in thier tri suits as I did. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Can't wait to tell the AD that we have a Texan posting VReds results on the web!! It was a great game. Turned out the goalie for the other team (St. Mary's University, known as SMU, just like Southern Methodist B-man!) is the son of some folks I know. They drove 5 hours from Halifax to watch him play. He was good (but our guys were better So far so good on my triple crown weekend. Swam Friday, cycled on the trainer yesterday so this afternoon I'll be out for a run. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() FBP - didn't you say it was best of three.....when are the other games? Keep me posted. The SMU thing is interesting....we have a Saint Mary's University here in San Antonio as well and I also think there is another St Mary's up north.....north in the US....is the St Mary's you all played in Canada (I assume).....that makes for a LOT of SMUs. Tell the AD I need a jersey or a T shirt to promote him more fully down here in Hockey Town USA.....LOL!!! Bryan |
