It is quite amusing. *Grandp* or as we like to call it in south Louisiana...PawPaw   Yes, Paw Paw Wood...I like that.

Something told me you were a cheerleader Nicole!

Nicole83 - 2009-05-15 2:34 PM I just spit out a jelly bean I was laughing so hard at the prospect of "Grandpa Wood."

Is that absolutely hysterical to anyone but me?

And I'm glad you all liked your cheers.   Hopefully none of my former squad ever read those as I will be banned for life because they are soooo cheesy.

Yes, yes I was.

I was actually Captain of my squad.

If you know my maiden name, that's pretty funny.

Happy Monday everyone!

Nice races this weekend Kelli and Betsy!  You girls rock!

And I'm glad I gave you a giggle Kelli.   Let's just say, changing my last name when I got married was a no-brainer.

OK so on my running plan I got 3 weeks of running in with 3 runs per week that went a distance of 2.5-2.8-3.0 each week. So this week I am going to be backing off with a little rest like week with 3 runs of only 2 mi. So are those runs at the same slow pace as the others or can/should I do something else? 200s, 400s, 800s or some thing like that.

What up group?  I am a little behind the BT curve this Monday... trying to get caught up.  No computer this weekend ~ power button broke on the home PC and I haven't taken the time to crack it open and fix it yet.

I haven't looked at the races yet ladies, but from the comments ~ sounds like you had a great go of it.  It feels good to get back into the swing of things for me.  I haven't dropped the hammer yet... just easing back into things.

I had a great OWS yesterday at 288 Lake (nice SCUBA lake that is allowing Tri-geeks to swim)  I think it is much nicer than the other (similar) lake that is local.  I was so stoked at my swim performance ~ as I swam with a group of guys I am doing BSLT and IMFL with... all of which have been slightly to a lot faster than I in the water.  NO MAS!!!  I really felt smooth and enjoyed swimming much faster than everyone.  I guess they all could have been having off days, but I really felt on my swim.  my sighting was off at times... as you can't see the low-profile platforms we were swimming around very well, but I didn't want to stop.  The water was perfect, clear and it was overcast - so it wasn't too warm.  It was the highlight of my weekend.

Happy Monday y'all!

Thanks everyone!  Run and bike were better than I expected.  Swim was about what I thought it would be.  (But of course I had hoped it would be better!)

It really was a fun race and the cooler weather was nice.  Oh and Eric did a GREAT job cheerleading!

Happy Monday gang!!

So, my would-be first oly on Saturday turned into my first du instead.  As much as I wanted to swim, I was totally dreading the cold water so I was cool with the change.  It was a super fun day & race filled with loads of hills in every direction.  I'm glad I decided to do it!!  My take away from the day is that (1) I need more time in the saddle and (2) I need to ride outside more.

School me on where I am and show me the light.

Should I be itching to get out and do more? I already feel rested and want to get after it. I had a low week on biking since I missed a weekend ride so I pretty much ready to ride. Had all of Sunday off. My runs are not tough even though I went up. I felt a little the day after the first run of the week but after that I am all good the next day for the other 2 runs. Does that sound right? Is this normal feeling?

You should be good to go the next day with very little or no soreness. Even my long workouts or even ones I puke/nearly puke from don't take me more than 24hrs to recover from.  Itching to do more is a good thing, it's motivation... most people aren't to excited to workout if they're already sore and tired... it's a balancing act.

Now since you're ramping up your runs starting at a low level (cause of the calf) you may not need the recovery on the 4th week for running this month but next month maybe different. There are weeks where I feel like I would be fine without recovery but I take it anyways because who knows how I'll feel in 2-3 weeks.

I know you're anxious to do more so you can see the results sooner but trust me steady and consistent training in the beginning is what will get you there. Pushing yourself to the limits like we talk about sometimes on here will only get you hurt and/or burnt out.  Just an FYI... I normally start putting intervals and higher intensity training into people's schedules once they've gotten to ~18-20mi running 3x/week.

So you are saying I cant just go out and do a few runs and be back in top peak physical shape after 5 years of laziness? Man I thought this would be easy. Smile

Thanks for awesome advice. I am addictively competitive so that is the hard part about taking it slow. I will alter my schedule a little since I did start off so low. I am going to move my rest week back 2 weeks. But will defiantly use it. The last week is race week with a Sunday race.

At my work we're a fairly competitive group of people and when we all go to lunch together we end up leaving with some crazy fun bet. This time the bet includes myself and another undefeated (in betting) co-worker Steven who I got into tris last year.

The bet
-----------
50 yds from a dive, Steven swims and I dolphin kick
If I win Steven pays me $10 for every workout he misses for a month.
If I lose I have to create Steven's workout schedule for a month.

Obviously the goal of the whole thing is to get Steven more consistent in his workouts but it should be fun beating him without any arms either Hopefully I can pull it off, I'm hoping the dive and flip turn give me the edge I need!

Some background on Steven... One of his latest betting victories was eating 8 Ms Baird fried pies (350-400 calories each) before another co-worker ran 1mi around work. http://picasaweb.google.com/eric.vondohlen/02012008PieEatingContest. He also completed a 600m OWS in Galveston when he literally couldn't even swim 25yds of a pool straight so he can't be underestimated! This should be fun
