Right back at ya, Tim!

Tomorrow night, my tri club is doing an apartment crawl... so basically it's gonna just be 4 house parties in a row. Probably a bit much for me, especially since I am going to be at my spin class on Saturday, at 9:00. So it'll just be a good hang out time for me!

Other than that, not much planned. Probably go for a run on Sunday... 10-15k easy, since I have my race next weekend! I'm pretty excited!

No St. Patty's day plans here.  My life changed completely 5 years ago right about now!!  John and I spent March 16th 2006 planning a 1st anniversary trip.  All of those plans were thrown out the window the next morning when I took a pregnancy test!  Our anniversary is December 3rd, Joe was due November 23rd, and we had him December 4th (Still bitter about that 11 days over due 4 1/2 years later!!)

Weekend is going to be busy getting ready for my mom's party.  I am doing a lot of cooking tomorrow night.  The food is New Orleans style!!

It's my brother's birthday and he is actually in town, so trying to co-ordinate a sushi dinner(not very irish, but his fave), that's probably as exciting as it will get.

I think I may have drooled a little thinking about you cooking NOLA food Meggan....mmmmm

Happy St. Patricks Day!!!

It has been a great day....nice 3 mile run this morning, followed by hearing my little peanuts heartbeat for the first time and then headed down with my hubby and daughter to a parade.  Now getting ready to eat some corned beef and cabbage!!!!

Tomorrow I celebrate my 5 year anniversary!  We are going to go to the botanical gardens and mini golf and a movie and nice dinner.  I can't wait!

Thats awesome Debbie!  New picture with you in the green is just fitting.  Happy Anniversary!  Sounds like you've got a great day planned and have so much going right for you right now.  Enjoy the cabbage!   And no drinking!

Happy Monday guys!

So, interesting last few days for me.  First, I found out that I need glasses because, thanks to law school, I am nearsighted!  The doctor is holding out that it might go away when I finish school because I won't be at a computer or reading a book as much, but I still had to do something because I was having a hard time reading the board in class.  Yay.  Then, figured that I get ocular migraines, which explains why there are times where everything is blurry to me.  I need to start tracking what I do on the days I have them so I can figure out the trigger, but it could be anything from stress to a chemical in a food.  Another yay!

On top of this, I have not been able to get a good night's rest, which I can only guess is because of my inability to work out to the intensity I've gotten used to.  I never liked running, but now it's stressing me out that I can't.  I'm going to try biking today, but I ditched my long ride for the weekend because it generally makes my knee sore.  It is KILLING me that my logs aren't peach now.  Booo.  I liked being so consistent recently.

Okay, I'm done complaining now.  On a bright note, I just got done with my spring break, so I got to spend a lot more time than usual with Ryan and Nadie.  It was nice getting to see them on a regular basis instead of just the nights I get home early!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

So I got to work this morning and had an email from the girl who is setting up the marathon relay team that she did not get the registration in in time and it is full!!!  I am so mad about it.  I was so looking forward to it and doing that run.  So I think I am just going to stick to my current workout plan and hold on to it for as long as I can.  I have a 5K in May that I am doing for our Girls on the Run team at school and then one in June.  I feel really good with this workout schedule, so we shall see.

So how is everyone's week going?

I finally tested out the knee with a run yesterday.  I got about .75mi in (only planned on 1-1.5mi) and was feeling great and doing an 8:41 pace then it just hit me.  Got a shot of pain all the way through the knee.  Continued another .15mi and it didn't go away so I stopped.  It went away pretty quickly once I began walking though.

I am at the point where I am really not too upset about it.  I am not happy about it either.  The doc wanted me to really test it out and that's what I did.  I'll probably do a little more running at PT tomorrow then will do another run next week before I go back to him.  Not really sure what this pain is going to mean to him.

My swim class is going well.  I can't believe it has already been 4 weeks and I only have 2 more to go.  The coach said I was looking really good.  I've definitely picked up some things I was doing wrong in the past and feel like I am on my way to correcting them.

I will be riding in a charity bike ride on Sat morning.  Signed up for the 42mi route.  I've also decided I am going to sign up for a 100 miler coming up in May so I really need to start building up to that and this is a start.

I am sending best of luck vibes to Meggan and Pete who both have runs this weekend!  Good luck guys!

That does not sound like optimal running conditions for you Meggan, let's hope that the 30% is on your side on Sunday morning.   Have a great race.

T1, sounds like you are getting some good stuff out of your swim clinic and sorry to hear your knee started up again during your test run the other day, but really commend you on not letting it get you down and choosing to take the time to focus on your your swim/bike.

Pete, good luck with your 30K this weekend!

I myself have been sitting on my pitty pot with a pulled muscle in my left foot, but I finally got my act together last night and fixed the back tire on my bike and got myself on the trainer for the first time in a long time.  I have certainly lost a little bit of my bike fitness, but it really felt great to be doing something that didn't hurt and really got my heart rate up.  I will focus on biking for the next week or two and get in some smaller runs and hopefully be up for my 36KM run coming up.  Speaking with the woman who I am training with last night, who is a much stronger runner than me an is now also experiencing pains she has never had before with the increased distances, we discussed how frustrating it is that we were doing everything within our power to do our training so that we wouldn't  get injured, but it hasn't worked out this way at all.  Oh well, we will see what race day brings.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Well, I finished, which counts for something... because there were many points throughout the race that I did not want to. To say that the thought of dropping out didn't cross my mind would be a lie. Thank god I'm stubborn like that. I'm going to do a full RR tomorrow, on here, and one for me personally, but here's the gist... Gorgeous day for a run. A little chilly at first, but ended amazing. Great crowd, volunteers, other runners, traditions in the race (it's older than Boston), etc. However, I learned a couple things:

  1. Stick to your pace time. I was told, and I told myself, to stick to it. I wanted to finish in a time of 2:45:00, which meant a 5'30"/km pace. I went out, and started running a 5'/km for the first little bit. First mistake. I knew I wasn't going to be able to hold that, but I did it anyways. Dumb, dumb dumb.
  2. For long races like this, you should really plan out your nutrition. I did not. I went in thinking that I would just figure it out as I went. I went with a gel and a pack of gummies that I knew nothing about the nutritional information of them. I only had 3 gummies (out of a pack of about 8, whole pack = 190 kcal). I also was planning on living off the land for hydration. Again, dumb.

I am happy that I finished. It says online that I had a chip time of 2:55, but I think it was more of 2:51, so only 6' longer than my goal time, but had I planned nutrition and pacing, I could have easily beaten that.

Around the 23km mark, I just blew up. I wasn't happy, I didn't want to be there, I didn't care if I finished... I was hungry and thirsty and didn't want to run anymore. I just wanted to go home and cry. It was a very emotional day for me, because 3 hours is a LONG time to be inside your own head, and I had a lot running through it, about how much work I had done to get to the point where I could do this, and here was my body, not responding how I wanted it to (due to no fault of its own, but that's hind sight). But I kept chugging on. The last 3km, I probably walked 1/2 of it. My body was just completely depleted of energy.

Like I said, I'll be putting up a RR tomorrow, hopefully, after my massage (I CAN'T wait), which should go more into detail about what I did right (very little) and what I did wrong (a whole lot). My body is feeling pretty good right now. I'm not overly sore, just tired. A good night sleep will definitely do me good.

Meggan? Your turn!

I was exhausted all day yesterday!  The only time I have felt like that after a race was the marathon.  My legs felt great and still do today!!

My A time goal was 1:40:00 and I missed it but I still PRed by 2 minutes.  According to my Garmin, I ran 1:41:52.  Last year it was 1:43:51.  I am going by my watch on the time because it is not a timed by chip.  The marathon and 10 mile sold out this year so they said they are going to look into chip timing next year.

I felt good the whole race.  I am very against running with music during training on the street.  I did run with my Ipod yesterday and put it on around mile 4.  I plan on having it with me for the marathon in May because it is not going to be anything like Philly!  It is a much smaller marathon and I don't expect the spectators to be like Philly.  I had a few dark lonely miles in Philly and I am trying to avoid that for my next one.  So I brought the ipod along to try it out.  I talked to a few people that have done the Delaware marathon so I got the scoop on the course.

I suck on hydration.  I need to remind myself to drink on my long runs and I had to yesterday too.  I ended up wearing my fuel belt because I have been wearing it for runs over 8 miles so I am used to drinking when I want and not just at the aid stations.  Because of the weather, I wanted to avoid the water stations if possible because I knew the ground would be slippery.  I drank less than half my water.  That would probably be why I ended up with a cramp in my side right around mile marker 8.  I was probably still overdressed.  I wore tights, a long sleeve running tee and a short sleeve on top.  I think I would have been fine with a short sleeve and arm warmers.

It was a good race.  Maybe next year I will get under 1:40!!

Great job guys!

Pete, don't beat yourself up too much.  That is a long time to be running and to have those issues and still be within 6min of your goal time is great.  Experience is a wonderful learning tool.

Meggan, way to PR by over 2min!  I guess the weather didn't end up as bad as it was supposed to be?

You both should be very proud as you have put a lot of work into it and did very well.  Color me impressed!

The weather was not too bad.  There were some flurries for about a half mile but that was it.  It was cold at the start but I warmed up pretty quickly.   I wore my hat for the first 8 miles and then tossed it to John.  Actually I did not toss it, I just dropped it on the course and he came and grabbed it.  There were cars on the other side of the road and he was on that side of the street.  I took it off around mile 6 but it was soaked with sweat so I just put it back on.  I like my hat and was not about to toss it on the side of the road.  I think I was overdressed but if I had one less layer of shirt, I might have been too cold.  Who knows.  It worked out.

Great job Meggan and Pete!!!  You are awesome!

I haven't been on as much, except to log my workouts.  Our basement flooded a couple of weekends ago and everything has to come out so we can get a sump pump put in and it has been very time consuming packing everything down there.  I have been swamped at work too.  Missed my workout sunday, but my body was telling me to sleep and so I did.  I guess 4 workouts isn't too bad, just gotta keep it up!

Went to my knee specialist yesterday.  He said he was perplexed about what is going on.  He pushed around the area a bit and said that I was feeling pain not only near the tendons but also on the bone.  He talked about doing several very specific injections into the meniscus and a tendon and would then have me run right outside his office to see if the pain continues.  He said that the problem I am having is that the area the pain is coming from has a lot of moving parts and it is difficult to narrow it down to exactly what is causing it.  So, by doing the specific injections he can try to narrow exactly where the pain is coming from.

I told him I have several (already paid for) bike rides coming up and the last shot took me out of commission for several days so I am a little hesitant right now.  So, he agreed to let me wait about 2 more weeks but wants me to ramp up my running and see how I feel.  He said the shot can take several days to several weeks to really work and it all just depends on the person and the injury.  So, I will wait 2-3 weeks, get in a lot more running, then see how it feels.  If the pain is still there then we will schedule a bone scan to rule out a stress fracture or something wrong with the bone.  If that is clear then the next step is those injections.

So how is everyone doing this week?  Weather warming up yet for everyone?  Can you believe it is already April!?  So, who has some races coming up?

I have another charity ride this Sat.  Tis the season for those around here.  I have one almost every weekend starting with the one last week until mid-May.  The one on Sat will be a 44mi route.

Happy Thursday!

Tim, I can't believe you still don't have clear answers on your knee!  I hope this plan sheds some light!!

No races planned for me in April yet.  I may toss in a 5k or something but not sure right now.  My next race is the marathon on May 15th.  I can't believe that is 6 weeks from Sunday!
