Master 1471 Dunedin | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED kgore - 2011-10-18 12:37 AM Go Suzie! Hope the new job works out well for you! --If its doable, I would say JOIN THE GYM!!!--I have found that I tend to do more workouts being part of a gym--otherwise I feel guilty for wasting money on it without using it! Not to mention, there might be some cool classes or something that you never tried before that ends up being the most fun ever... Tonight I did a 2.25 mile run at the park near my zoo--I averaged about 10 min. pace--I still can't get over it, I feel like I am going really slow, yet I double checked my timer tonight and it was dead-on--I have increased my speed! Yay me! I swam last night as well--1st time in about a month...it felt pretty good though, and smooooooth...so I'm happy with that. I fixed my tire last night, so I plan on riding my bike to and from school tomorrow--back to my 12 mile (one way) bike rides--24 miles/day...not bad! I just need to get below 45 minutes each way, then I'm golden. My first Mud-Run/Obstacle race is less than two weeks away!!!! SO EXCITED!!!
It's great to be physically active, but doesn't it just feel SO good when you have improvements in things like endurance or speed?!! GREAT job! |

Master 1471 Dunedin | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED Hi Group!!! I'm in NYC right now and staying in a hostel-no luxury of a gym or pool. BUT, I've been wearing a pedometer. For those of us going through a workout funk, this may be a neat tool to try. At work we're developing a program to get people to walk 10,000 steps/day. It's been interesting to track how many steps I actually take! Some days I'll hit 15,000-18,000 steps and other days I barely squeak past 4,000 steps. It's a nice little tool that records our movement, so that at the end of the day we see that everything counts. |

Master 1471 Dunedin | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED Uh oh, the group is getting even more quiet! Any training or races coming up? I'm at work debating about going to the gym for lunch or working through my lunch. Hmm... Take care! p.s. I started masters swimming last week and the new approach to swimming is to NOT pull down the center of our body, but to pull on the outside of our body. |

Extreme Veteran 793 Naperville, IL | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED Been logging, but pretty boring here. No swim or bike, just running. I've got Thanksgiving week off and plan on using it to kick start the winter training. Hope everyone is well, healthy, and happy! |

I'm sure I'd be doing quite a few what with walking and/or running after kids and going in and out of the different rooms. I may have a look for it and see how it works. Finally got some actual exercise in - a short swim session with BFF - but I should be back to it once I've got some inner soles for my shoes that help me out during the day when I'm standing around watching/assisting kids - may get 2 pairs and put some in my running shoes too because I find towards the end of a long session I start getting sore heels too. I think it may be because that's where I put most of my weight naturaly. Edited by suzielea 2011-10-26 6:05 AM |

Master 3195 Just South of Boston | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED I'm here, but semi silent lately just due to busy work/life, etc. I'm getting back into training after spending too much time making a dent in the sofa. Trying to get in 6 or so work outs a day, with a concentration on running. Will do a reduced version of Jorge's winter cylcing plan, 2 swims a week, and 4 runs a week. Should be fun. Half Ironman training starts Jan 20! |

Master 1471 Dunedin | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED 2-4 inches of snow are coming tonight. Ugggggggggh!!! I was hoping we could have more nice fall days. On the bright side, this is my second week of masters swimming and it's GREAT! So far. My body is sore, but in a good way. =) |

Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED Hi all, sorry I've been MIA--its been a couple of exceedingly busy weeks---between Halloween costume prep, school assignments (all were due between last week and today!), and a little race I did, its been crazy. Anyway, the race report is here: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=273375&posts=1&start=1 It was the Down n Dirty Mud Run by Merrell---and probably one of the most fun races I have ever done--I did okay, and was able to get through (and over or under) all of the obstacles, but the time was not my best......Truthfully, I really didn't care too much--It was too much fun--next year though, I will worry more about time and see if I can do well! The next race will be a Thanksgiving day 5k, --nothing major, but I think I'll run a bit more in prep! |

Master 3195 Just South of Boston | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED Good job on the race & the report, Katie. Does sound like a great time. Hope everyone else is doing well. I've started to move again, and am setting sights high for 2012. I started the Higdon novice marathon plan last week, and I'm also planning a HIM for June of '12. Not sure what else right now. Probably a couple local sprints, an Oly, or maybe something a bit bigger....time will tell. Now I just need to get my rear end moving again! |

Master 1471 Dunedin | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED WOW! Looks like we're all pulling out of the post-summer slump! GREAT!!! Today I went to a boot camp class. It kicked my butt. Six minutes into the class I was sure I'd toss my cookies (I'm not really into going hardcore at 6am!). It's funny that a co-worker was there and just in disbelief at how I can swim, bike, and run for ever and ever, but 1 minute intervals were whooping me! Anyway, I have family in town for the week, so I have to continue sneaking in workouts before work (ick!) or during lunch. Happy Hump Day! |

Master 3195 Just South of Boston | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED Funny you mention the bootcamp class -- I do something similar every Saturday AM. I took my marathon running brother in law to a class a while back, and he said he'd never go again. Too much to handle! |

Master 1471 Dunedin | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED OOOOOOOO.M.G. The boot camp class kick my butt! I slept like crap last night because all of my muscles were so sore! I haven't felt like this in ages and I love it! Might have to think about going back. Hmm... What's is everyone else up to? I'm thinking about signing up for a Turkey Trot. I haven't been running much, but I'm pretty sure I can bust out a 5k. =) |

Expert 1051 San Jose | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED We're all doing a Turkey Trot too Two of my kids don't run at all so I'm sure they are going to walk the 5K. I think I'm going to do the 10K since that's closest to my training plan for that day. Our is in downtown San Jose and I think about 18,000 people do it. It's all for fun because it's so crowded that it's hard to run past people. |

Master 3195 Just South of Boston | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED Turkey Trotter here, too! The race starts/ends about a mile from my house, so I'll just keep going past the finish and end up at home, getting in a 4 mile run. Then ruin the whole thing by taking in 5,000 calories in a single day. |

Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED Count me in! I've got one going on at a park near my house---the park that my coach and I trained at regularly, in fact! I've been laying low since Sunday thanks to nasty allergy issues--they're starting to fade a bit, so I am going to try to get back on track with a run workout tomorrow---I'm going to get back in the swing of things, getting in at least 2-3 runs, 2 bikes, and 1-2 swims in per week....getting that motivation feeling back again! |

Master 3195 Just South of Boston | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED Just finished up my long run for the week - 7.18 miles. Longest I've run since my injury back in february. Funny thing -- it seemed easier to run 7+ miles this AM than it did to run 3.45 miles yesterday afternoon. Perfect running conditions this AM. Was chilly at the start (32 or so), but beautiful sunny sky, gorgeous ocean views for 1/2 the run, no breeze, and everything just still. Fantastic stuff. |

We've been having great weather like that, too! Started out at 28* yesterday and warmed up into the 60s. =) |

Veteran 940 Citrus Heights, CA | Subject: RE: Sink or SWIM! with WittyCityGirl - CLOSED Yesterday, I received the bike seat and bottle holders that I bought off of the classifieds here on BT--they were for my mountain bike, which has been sadly seat-less for the better part of a year . I installed them this morning, and took out my 'urban assault bike' for a short ride this morning.. I missed riding that bike! The brakes still work VERY well, but I need to get my gear shifter worked on...later this month perhaps. As my classes were cancelled today, I'm now sitting at home watching my Tivo'd Ironman Championships ('07, '08, and '09)...Wonderful motivation! The stories are so wonderful--thought they do bring a tear or two! Tomorrow it will be time for strength training and a run--maybe a swim if I'm as energetic as I've been feeling today! |
