I have a pinched nerve in my lower back also (not sure which one) that came from a stress fracture in my lower vertebrae. I know that if I try to train when it is irritated, it often leads to it getting worse, especially with swimming because of flip turns. If you don't do them, it is better. Biking can be problematic too depending on the position you ride in. I would say to give it a try and be very easy on yourself. Also be willing to stop early if it gets worse.
