Good morning Kim!

Morning Ann.  Hope the knee and hip are feeling better today.  I like the idea of some vitamin D therapy this afternoon.

Morning NJKim!

Glad ART worked for you!

Morning Bill.  I swear she physically moved/manipulated the patella back on track.  I'll be going 2-3 times a week for a month.  My homework assignment is stretching the quads 3xday.  I'm looking forward to how I do on this weekend's 8 miler.

ironannekidd - 2010-03-19 8:59 AM Here's the story

I was riding the one loop I do. I've ridden on this road I don't know how many times over the past year +. I've seen the dog in the yard before, never had any problems.

Last night I was riding by and I saw the dog right beside the house, which isn't far from the road, he was playing with a boy. I slowed down, I try to be cautious, not give them a reason to chase me. I watched them until I was almost past the house, then I turned my eyes forward thinking I was safe.

I heard the boy yell and I turned my head and by that time I heard the loud WOOF and the dog was right beside me. I tried to put my foot down and forgot I was clipped in and I lost control of the bike. I went down with it. I'm not sure when I got the foot under my bike loose, but when I hit I got my left foot unclipped and when I went to swing it around my bike the dog lunged and tried to bite at it.

I scrambled up and kept my bike between me and the dog. He kept barking and lunging at me. He would go from side to side trying to get around the bike. I thought about smacking him with the back wheel once as he came around.

The boy had yelled at the dog but the dog ignored him and kept coming at me. The boy ran in the house then yelling and a man came out and yelled at the dog. The dog ignored the man, too. The man ran out onto the road and chased the dog into the back yard. I tried to get back on my bike but I was shaking so bad I had problems. Once I did get on I couldn't get clipped in.

After I got going I had to go up a hill, that's when I noticed the pain in my knee, it was bad. I made it to the stop sign at the top of the hill, just under 4 miles from home. The last 2 miles home are pretty hilly. I didn't want to potentially do any more damage to my knee so I called my husband to come get me. He set out my way and I crossed the road and peddled with one foot and coasted down the road. That part was straight and flat.

When I got home my daughter already had an ice pack and a pillow on my recliner for me. That was the scardest I have ever been on a bike ride.

Holy carp Ann.  That sounds horrible.  My heart rate increased just reading what happened. I can't believe you were able to get on the bike at all after that.  Thank goodness you had a ride home.  Have you thought about calling the owner and seeing if they are going to keep the dog leashed in the future?  And if they act like a$$holes, then calling animal control and reporting the attack?

ps, daughter gets a big deposit in the kind acts account.

Thanks Kim.

I told my sister what happened and she asked if anyone came to see if I was ok. I told her nope. I didn't hang around though I just wanted to get away from there.

I'm not sure if I should call them or not. I have an ex-cop friend who would tell them what he thinks, maybe I can ask him to call.

I have 2 dogs and both of them roam free, most of the time, but I also know mine are harmless. Granted, people walking, riding by may not know that, but if I was ever aware of my dog behaving aggressively like that I wouldn't put up with it. I've had my lab follow walkers before. My SIL called one time and said she got a call that my dog had followed 2 women who were walking by over 2 miles to their house. She just wants to be everyone's friend.

I biked to work today, swam a quick 1500 after that, and then went on a "real" ride.  I had to take advantage of the weather while I could because unfortunately in less than 24 hours it will be snowing here Boo!!

Thanks Kim - I should look into it because of my hip - After TransIowa I am going Yoga geek until I head out on the tour.  I really believe a lot of mine is due to my lack of stretching - I need to become more disciplined in this area and fast!  I am not getting any younger

Well, I say go for it.  It can't hurt....well, it does kinda hurt but you can handle it.  And I'm with you on needing to get more disciplined on stretching. I'm good on the achilles, lower leg stuff because of the plantar fasciitis problems I had, but not so good about stretching the rest of the body.  And while neither of us are getting any younger, take solice in the fact you are younger than me

wgraves7582 - 2010-03-18 1:27 PM Well if it fits I would be all over the Felt S22 52cm bike for $1799.99

The Cervelo P1 Ultegra is nice also.

The trek wsd will probably fit better because they are female compatible???

This leaves you room for pedals and other fun stuff and it is Ultegra on the Felt and Cervelo so you cannot go wrong there!

I'm a Trek fan, I've owned several, but the Felt's and the Cerevelo are SWEET!

This is going to be a very difficult decision. I'm hoping that 1 stands out as clearly feeling/fitting better than the others so the decision is a little easier.

Thanks for the help, too. You know more about bikes than I do, I appreciate the input!

It did for me!  Then it came down to two that felt good (Trek for sure and Felt a close second) but the Trek was better components for the same price.

I realize it is different in the country with respect to how people keep dogs.  I grew up on land with horses and dogs and our dogs also tended to roam. And a yellow lab following me while I'm walking is nothing other than possibly my new dog.Innocent  As kids my sister and I added many new additions to the menagerie when we'd go out on long horse back rides.  I once carried a baby goat home.  That said, any dog of any size charging a biker and acting aggressive is a problem.  What if it's a kid next time?  If you're not comfortable calling the owners at least call animal control and report it.  I can't believe they didn't come over to see if you were ok.

ironannekidd - 2010-03-18 5:57 PM Hi Ghoulies

I had a rough evening.

My bike ride consisted of situation involving  a Rottweiler and me crashing.

Now my knee is killing me. I've been icing it and I have it propped up.

My hip is bruised and pretty sore now, too.

My elbow is a little sore but I think my hip took the brunt of it. I think I twisted my knee more than hit it on the way down. I couldn't get unclipped in time.

I'll explain more later. Now I'm tired and sore and I think I'm going to go lie down.

Oh no, Ann.  I am so sorry.  I hope that hip and knee are better after some rest and ice!

kcarroll - 2010-03-18 8:28 PM Hi Ghoulies.  Had my first ART/PT session for the left knee today.  I think it went well and can tell the difference.  Bottom line:  quads tight, hammy's weak.  I am such a girl.  I am very motivated to stay on track with training, so we'll see where it goes.

Ps, pain factor was very manageable

Glad it went well.  Hopefully this is the answer for you!

Come on NJKim - I am rolling 43 years and heading towards 44 in August.  You have to be younger than me

We had a huge laugh the other night - there is a new product out called "Touch of Grey"  I have the market cornered on that!!!  Pretty soon they are going to be selling "Touch of Bill Graves' Grey" - lol!

Well this gal isn't posting her age on the interweb although I suppose it already is from race results.  You know,  I think most of the recreational atheletes I meet seem much younger than they really are.  Nice side benefit of all the training we do.

And any woman over 40 who isn't grey and says she doesn't color her hair is lying.
