Mike - sorry about your knee. Hope it at least lets you drive a full commute soon if nothing else.

Me - got in a short bike ride today - 16:47 (min:sec) 1.5 miles (5.36 mph) on a slightly hillish route - amazed the girls I baby sat the other night could make it when I'd finished, lol (well 1 did have to walk for a bit but the other soldiered on like it was flat) - and I've created an actual training plan starting this sunday. You should be able to see it if you look at the "planned" stuff on my log.

It's very low mileage but: I'm going to do the running for time - I put in 20 m/m and I'm usually 19:xx when I run/walk and can get faster depending on the day - I'll be doing general walk workouts this week as a prep

That's awesome that you're starting a plan!  The weather must be improving where you are, lucky duck!

Sorry for the double post but I was trying to add the extra details when I somehow set it to post the first time.

Anyway I have a question on setting up "planned" workouts. I've set up a plan with swim, bike, run data but it has no ST/sports data - is there a way to put them in the "planned" workouts without using a pre-designed plan?

I'm not sure since that's a feature that I haven't taken the time to explore.  "Marmadaddy" on BT is a guru since he helps run the site and would be a great person to ask!

I signed up for IMAZ!!!!!

It should be a very fun year The best part was I volunteered in the registration tent Saturday for this years athlete's who wanted to register for next year. After they trained us, they has us register ourselves for practice before they let people in. Some friends were in line until 11:00 Monday morning and got in, then registration opened online and sold out in 10 min!

I think we're all nuts!

So in my wanderings during the race, I saw a couple sitting that were wearing Bloome County Tro Club shirts. Sara had mentioned that she knew some people racing so I asked this couple if they knew her and they did! The gal took a picture of us together and texted it to Sara. It's a very small world!

I started a blog just for fun:

http://doingwhatilikelikingwhatido.blogspot.com/

Happy Thanksgiving!

Johanne

AH!!!!  Johanne, that's SO SO SO SO exciting that you're going to do your first IRONMAN!!!!! YAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!  Have a blast doing the training.  My husband was a Ironman in training widower... it took a lot of time away from friends and family to get in the long swims/bikes/runs but the flip side is that you'll continue to meet AMAZING people on your journey to the finishing where you'll hear Mike Reilly announce "You ARE an IRONMAAAAAN!!!"

p.s. I think that's so crazy cool that you bumped into triathletes from NY from our club!!!  Deb is on BT... she's on my friends list, but I can't think of her name on BT

I signed up for a Turkey Trot tomorrow!!!  I'd loooove to break a 9 min/mile pace for this, but I think with the lack of running I should be happy just to finish.

Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!!!  I'm looking forward to my tofurkey. Laughing

Have a great race!! I will also be out there pounding the trail! The only bum part of this is that we're expecting rain from 8AM to about noon---my race starts at 9 AM--boo. Oh well, maybe I'll get a nifty photo taken with me being so warm that steam is rising of me--for some reason I've always thought that's really cool!

Go get 'em Johanne!!! That is so cool--you're gonna be rockin' the Ironman!!!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

I completed my Turkey Trot this morning--I am pretty sure that I finished it in 35 minutes or so--for me, that's not a bad 5k time! Next up will be the Jingle Bell Rock'n 10k on December 4...I'd best get to training!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

My 12 year old daughter did our local 5k Turkey Trot yesterday AM, and finished in 26:46, which is only 22 slower than the time I posted last year! She is determined to beat me next year.

As for me, I'm still sidelined. Despite the docs OK to do it, riding my bike is cuasing knee pain as well, so I'm pretty much a swim only guy right now. Won't get MRI results until Monday due to the holiday, then figure out what to do.

Aside from that, I have been a total unmotivated lump of fat the past couple months. I have no idea why. Just feeling 'blah' about it. I guess I just need to get back into the groove, and get into it. Once the knee thing is cleared up, I have zero excuse, but I really need to find some motivation. I was very excited about the marathon training, but only 3 weeks in this knee thing showed up, and I feel like I'm a bit lost on what to do. Swim more seems to be the most apparent option. I could certainly use it!

Great job, Kate!!

I recall you working with someone over the summer to help with your swimming... does this person also help with biking/running?

My goal is to eventually have someone analyze my cycling... I've seen the improvements in my swim since I've had a coach help me and I KNOW my cycling needs to have a pair of eyes to help with that... I've had my run technique critiqued, but I haven't had too much luck applying the principles-I have a terrible time breaking my heel striking habit

Hang in there Mike, you've got a 12 year old daughter to be a super role model for!  I've heard it over and over from the masters swim guys.... it's MUCH easier to stay in shape than to get back into shape.  Good luck with the knee

5 miles in a hair over 41 minutes... I'll take it!!!  I was super happy with my turkey trot time.  I'm pretty sure this was my first "race" since my surgery last December.  I was pain-free until I got in the car and then the hernias acted up a smidge.  All good today.

Next week is a Santa run and I'm looking forward to dressing up our pooch for it.

There are two swim meets this month, both about an hour away.  I wanted to consider doing both, but they'd be $25/meet PLUS I'd have to pay for a US masters swim membership for one of them... I think the bank account needs a break from the spending (I might have gone overboard on Black Friday) so I think I'll go to the meet that doesn't require the membership, at least I'll save about $40-something.

You were on a roll with posts Sarah! Great job on your Turkey Trot! I did a 10K TT on Thursday and ran my best time despite there being 22,000 people there. Today I did my long run of the week, 15 miles. My daughter rode her bike with me and with all the back and forth she rode 21 miles. My marathon training is going so much better then last time. I think I'm just stronger all around so it's been much more fun

Mike, hang in there with the injury. I hope you're feeling better.

No - 2 reasons:

My last mentor group was just archived with no announcement after 3-4 months

2 - it doesn't seem that long

Oh and new bike baseline:

6.01 miles for .8 miles - that was the distance required by my training program today.

Here's how I'm approaching the plan:

Swim - as written but in m rather than y

Bike - distance - The slowest speed the plan organiser would accept was 8mph - that's my goal along with being able to ride a full 10k - preferably in under 1hr

Run - use the mins it's assigned me as my run mins, break down in to intervals and assign the walking intervals needed to make the full workout come up to 30 mins.

Yeah, I had a great all-around coach, unfortunately, she moved to SoCal in September, so I am on my own now---and my biggest issue is now just getting off my lazy butt to train regularly! I am back to the gym tonight--and I have more of a reason than ever to get back on my plan--My next race is on Dec 10--and I decided (why?! who knows...Undecided) to sign up for the 10k!! I'd best get to running!

I did go through and fully plan my racing season for 2012, so I know what I NEED to do--now I just NEED to make my self do it!

Kate - Good luck with all your upcoming races. Are you following an actual plan? If not try making one and then print it off or set your log to "planned workouts" if you come on here more often than just to log workouts so you can see what the plan saids you should be doing today. That seems to be working for me although I missed my last swim due to finance issues.

The knee is getting better I'm happy to say. MRI results showed tendonitis in my quad tendon, some bursitis, and a bit of swelling. Decided to give it 2 weeks more of rest, then start back at it.

I'm back swimming and discovered today my local is having a FREE masters class the whole month of December. I'm all over it!  Will get back on the bike this week for an easy spin.

First race sign up for 2012 is tomorrow.

Suzanne, what are you doing to increase your bike speed?  Do you hop on your bike and go the same speed?  I've seen drastic improvements in people's bike ability (mine included) by finding a way to reasonably push short repeats of sprints with a long recovery.  Do you have a way to guage your effort?  Due to your health history, I'm not sure what a safe way to exert yourself is, but figuring out how to stress those slow twitch and fast twitch muscle fibers is really important.

That's awesome that you're doing a 10k!  I think that's my favorite distance (when I'm in shape).  Pace, pace, pace.  Negative split your race (if you don't have a race plan strategy, that is) so you don't go out too hard.  Have fun!

I'm not quite sure yet - the plan has me riding all rides as "endurance rides" - which I take to mean same speed but I did try essentially going as fast as I could on Tuesday just to see if I could. I'm thinking I may steal some of the speed work from the beginner cycling program though.

Suzanne - good luck with that training!

As for me, I went for a 5 mile run last night and MAN my legs feel banged up.  What gives??  I didn't use my new running shoes, so I think the old pair had something to do with it.  We have a January Freeze 10k series coming up that I'm trying to get ready for. =)
