Cool reading everybody's goals for the winter. Salty I'm completely with you on the healthy respect for heights.  We've been standing at the edge of canyons the last few days and it  gives me an adrenaline rush every time.  I'll try to post some pix.

As for me, two more weeks off then I start my HIM training. I'm hoping that the 3X3 training will help my time in all three sports and I want to follow the plan with intervals and such as written.

I also want to look more into MTB. While we were here (in Moab) DH expressed an interest in riding but I know he prefers off-road. So I might look in to getting a MTB so we can share that.

So, each of the three sports, 3 times each per week??! It's that simple?! duh!  I totally thought it was some fancy schmancy training program...  Like I said: I'm a dork.

Only about 700m (2000ft) where the race would be.  And no, not 2013

Winter goals:

-train for/ski the birkiebeiner - goal is a PR.

-get pregnant

-stay in shape so i can rock said pregnancy

Sounds simple, right?! (omg, this whole pregnant thing kinda freaks me out!!)

Enjoy that!  Pregnancy is the easy part - childbirth also (while no fun at all) the easy part.....raising a child - wow...you'll see!

I was thinking the same thing!

I gotta agree with TJ and Jo on this. Pregnancy was real easy on me ;) (I do have some funny stories on that though.) However, raising a child is something altogether different. One other thing, enjoy the part where you are trying to get pregnant.

I got schooled by our coach on Wednesday about fast and slow twitch muscle fibers.

My assignment is to increase/maintain strength and power (ie the fast twitch) and flexibility in order to continue keeping me injury free as I train for endurance.

There is good news and bad news, and they are both the same statement. I have a long way to go.

That's not what fast-twitch muscle fibers do, either kind of them.

You can, however, recruit a bunch of one of the fast-twitch muscle fiber types to be more like slow-twitch ones and therefore assist you in endurance.

I realize he may have been using "power" in a colloquial way, but that just ain't how power works in a sports or energy setting.

Not trying to contradict your coach, and I'm pretty sure all of what he's encouraging you to do is working well for you and improving your running, which is the main point. However, he and/or you are mixing up terminology as well as evidence and effect, and I'm just a tiresome picky wench about such things.

Well, ok. I was paraphrasing.

What he was saying was that as your train for endurance you end up with a high amount of slow twitch. Am I right so far?

Ok, then he said if you are not training your fast twitch, you are losing it.

Right so far?

Ok, now he said, train your fast twitch, too

So, tell me if this is correct. If anyone is messing anything up it's me, not him.

And actually, the word he used was "weakness" and I mistakenly used the word power while describing what I wanted to improve upon. But fast twitch is about that more explosive movement so why is "power" so wrong?
