28 degrees in Tahoe this morning and the cold front hasn't moved in yet....... Should make it interesting. Forecast this morning says possibility of some light snow late Friday night?

Wife added, "don't get eaten by a bear," to her list of triathlon goals. I think that one is specific to this race.

Like I said don't be suprised if it snow's...I've lived here my whole life and have seen snow in every month of the year one year it was on the 4th of July. The weather is always a little interesting. If you get a chance check out Garwoods in Carnelian Bay great food a little expensive but worth it.

Did the climb to Brockway summit about an hour ago. It will be interesting to do this twice during a race. Preserving my legs for the run will be a constant battle.

Jason,

I would love to but I had to go home sick from work yesterday so to day is a catchup day and you don't want anyone sick around you anyway.

That makes me tired just reading it!

I overslept this morning and missed a group ride. First time I have done that so I am gonna take the day off!
10k tomorrow morning and may ride with a new group tomorrow afternoon.
It is nice and cool today in Memphis!
Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Mary

Rainy here so I was stuck in the garage for my ride. Not sure why but I really struggled with the intervals. HR was high and felt like I was going to fall off the bike after the 2nd interval. Problem was.....there was a third interval. Not going to happen so I just rode for the remainder at an easy/mod power. UGH! These types of days happen sometimes but always frustrating.

Rode the Hot Dam Olympic bike route this morning (with an additional 2 miles added due to the different starting point). Had a really good ride. Was 2 minutes faster than I was during the race 2 weeks ago (and rode 2 miles further), used 2 less gears climbing the hills, and added a little speed to my ride. Didn't feel taxing at all. I'm either, A. Fitter than I was 2 weeks ago, B. Enjoying my taper tremendously, C. Getting some benefit from new Conti GP 4000S tires (instead of the Vittoria Zaffiro's that came with the bike), or D. All of the above.

Question regarding bike setup on Saturday afternoon. I've got to leave my gal, Frieda Marie, in transition overnight. I know not to air up my tires until race morning. Anything else I need to do for her when I leave her? I've heard that many people cover their saddles and bars with trash bags. What's the reasoning behind that? If it's raining on race morning, all that's going to get wet when I take it off, plus when I put my river wet but on the saddle and hold onto the bars, they're going to get wet then, too.

On a side note...I still have 85 essays to grade.

Nancy,

For the reasons you pointed out, I have never bothered to cover my bike seat or handlebars when leaving it in transition. My butt is going to be wet when it hits the seat so keeping it dry over night has never made sense to me.

However, I have broken this pattern for tomorrow. It is going to be so cold in the morning that I plan a full change to dry clothes for my ride. Therefore, I also covered my seat and arm pads. The last thing I want to do is get my dry butt soaked by a wet seat after all that work to get dry.

The one thing that I like to do is coat my chain with some light lubricant so if it gets wet it isn't sitting there rusting all night.

Good luck with the essays.

Nancy-I don't cover my seat or handlebars.  Jason's idea about putting a little lube on the chain is a good one. I wouldn't worry about doing it unless it rained over night though. Sounds like you had a good ride today. One week to go!

Can anyone remind what Jason's bib number is? I've looked back in the past few pages and can't find it.

Edit: I found it by last name: 1782.

Been out of the loop, but finally in a hotel with reliable WiFi in time to track Jason. He's out of the water and looking really strong on the bike. GO JASON!

My old mentor Ernesto is also doing Tahoe today, in the same age category, so I'm wondering who's going to win ;-)

1:19 for the swim. Probably a little slower than he hoped but given the cold temps I suspect times will be slow. Looking good on the bike so far with avg speed around 20mph.
