Dee,  I missed it... there are no TVs in the rooms here.  But I did hear all about it.  I sent Greg an e-mail to offer encouragement and prayers...  if I hear back I will post it.

Best to everyone else, have to go and start packing... uch... EK

Hey guys. It's me.

Emerson I got your email so it prompted me to check in here. Thank you so much! Things are crazy busy right now - gee what a shock. My commute to work is 50 miles one way, so lots of drive time. Fortunately the company pays my gas and tolls! It's going well. I"m in big time absorbtion mode but have made a few minor changes in my organization -- mainly just reinforcing what they'd already been told to do.

Today marks 3 weeks since Stef is gone. The kids and I are doing well as we adjust to the new life. Right now its still pretty crazy since school hasn't started. I have a sitter some days...friends others. So feel like I"m always running in circles trying to remember where every one is.

The triathlon is in full gear and could be a full time job by itself. I'll be glad to get it behind me. It's going to be a tough day emotionally as well as physically and mentally.

I still haven't figured out how to get training in. By the time I get home and get the kids, there's no time to go back to the gym, feed them, and get them to bed at a decent hour. I could ride the trainer before they get up, but I'm working until late at night just to keep up w/ tri and home stuff and not sleeping well anyway, so sleep is precious right now. I'll figure it out. It's just a challenge.

Hope you are all well!

Greg

Greg,  It is a really wonderful thing to keep the tri going.  I will send a donation again this year.

Peg and I are back in Ohio again for three weeks then back to AZ for a long while.  I have a du on 8/24 that I am getting ready for.  I missed a couple of workout days due to weather and travel but I plan to ramp back up again on Thursday.

Dee, Pam, Amy and Eric... I hope your week is kicking off well...

Hello all... It sounds as if everyone is really busy with life and work, or vacation if your Emerson.

Emerson - love the pictures, I'm glad you get to play hard as I know you work hard. We will have to meet at IMKY, we won't be in Louisville until around 11:00pm Saturday night because my daughter Lacy has a CC meet at college that day so we have to drive over later than expected. Where will you be volunteering???? I will find you. If you want to meet for a drink at 11:30pm on 4th Street Live...just let me know, we are going out for just a bit that night.

Pam - did I miss a race you had????? Sorry, how was it?

Dee - I don't know how you do it with work all the time....I have just had two months of it and it zaps all my energy. What is going on the your bike hunting?

Greg - Hang in there...you will find a more managable routine soon, it is not easy being Mom and Dad and emotional, finanacial provider for the kids and yourself, your doing great, and remember to smile on that 50 mile commute, it helps take the stress off.

Jules - we will be hooking up again soon through BT...my season will end in October with the D.C. Marathon, which I am not prepared for, maybe Emerson can run in my place.

I will be doing our local sprint tri this weekend, and then in four weeks doing the Nashville Oly and the DC Marry and then I'm done for this season...and I'm ready! I'm taking November off.

Miss you guys a bunch!!!!

Amy, if you would like any tips on running... I am glad to help.  As soon as I finish my Du on the 24th, I start my quest for a 3:45 marathon this December.

Eric, hope you are doing OK out there...

Julie, hope CA is serving you well...

Pam, keep us posted on your work progress... and other important details...

Greg, we are all with you...

Dee, don't let work get you down... You will get through it and if it gets too bad, get a new job...

I look forward to hearing from all of you... going to kick some butt tomorrow morning...

I just had a little 4 miler charity run for a family that had a soldier die in Iraq.  It is a fun race but very hilly.  I pushed hard and boy did I hurt the next few days.  Work is going well.  I think I am stressing too much with everything in general.  I'm hurting, aching, tired and just moodier than I normally am   Plus I wish my boy would come home... oh well... what can you do!?!

Have a good night everyone!

you mean you did not hear me screaming! that was the ABSOLUTE best! who needs a cattle prod....Mike and his crew have got me all fired up to swim! ;0  did I just say that out loud?

Hi guys.  Life is ridiculously crazy and complicated here as I'm sure it is for all of you.  I'm trying to fit in some much needed family time along with much needed training and work and soccer starts next week (coaching 2 teams) and ......on and on and on

Raced in our local 10 mile time trial on the track at Lowes Motor Speedway on Wed. Always a fun event.  After I finished an older guys (60's) walked out in front of a junior racer who had just crossed the finish line at full sprint. They both got wiped out. I ended up spending about 15 mins taking care of the pedestrian as he was knocked out cold for at least 5 mins.  Took care of him until the ambulance arrived.  Nothing like making me work when I'm out racing   Seems like they're both going to be ok, but it was a pretty nasty wreck.

Greg--I'm sure that the last 3 weeks have been very tough for all of you.  You do hold down so many jobs, most of them unpaid.  Others have said it before, but you have to find a way to make time for yourself even if it is just 10 mins. You can't be the man that your family needs if you don't have time to grieve and time to heal yourself.  We're all thinking about you.

Eric

From my log...

I saw a miracle yesterday...

Our daughter invited us to join them at the place called "Becoming Mom Spa" in Mason Ohio to see a  sonogram (She is due to have a girl in November). My wife and I thought that would be cool so off we went.  It was not exactly what we expected.  We went into the room with the sonogram machine and were greeted with nice leather couches and chairs and a large flat screen TV.  It was quite comfortable.  Our daughter got down on the bed, they put goo on her belly and proceeded with the sonogram.   We then witnessed the most amazing thing I have ever seen (well, maybe second birth) in a full 3D view of our soon to be granddaughter in-uterus at 28 weeks.

She played with her toes, sucked her thumb, rubbed her face, stuck out her tung, opened and closed her eyes, snuggled with the side of our daughter's uterus.  It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen.  When she stretched and pushed her heal out a bump appeared on the side of Courtney's stomach.  There was a tiny person playing away the day and only 28 weeks old.  You can watch all the discovery channel you want but when it is your daughter on the table and your granddaughter on the screen, it is a tear touching moment.  I share a photo below but it does not do justice to the experience.  The DVD is amazing....  If I can figure out how to past a video I will...

What a miracle of life...  our granddaughter at 28 weeks, still in the safety of mom's womb already sucking her thumb...

Please take a moment and smile.  It is a joy to be shared by all.  We pray she is just as healthy and happy when she joins us in our world in early Novemer...

There is nothing I do in life that measures up to this, Emerson

From "cup of joe":

Thanks for all the kind notes about the photo, the posts and several very funny PMs. However, there are a few questions/comments that I feel compelled to answer:

As a Grandpa…

I will not need a cane or walker to finish my next race.
I am not adding Geritol to my supplement list, yet.
I did not join AARP despite the daily mailings.
I will run with a baby jogger, but it will not be motorized or have a seat built in.
I will buy lots of goofy hats and tee shirts about “Grandpa passing on left” and all sorts of other silly stuff.
I will spoil her rotten and then give her back to my daughter to straighten out (seems only fair).
If I needed Rogaine, I would not bother.
If I needed Viagra, what do you think I am, an idiot, of course I would bother!

Sadly, I have to wait another 2 years to get the “senior citizen early bird special” at a restaurant before my next race (that is the super cheep dinner from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM you get in a lot of areas in Arizona and Florida to attract the retirement crowd but you need to be 55).

So, you can be a grandpa and still kick some butt on BT!

I love being a “post-50” athlete and I look forward to passing lots of you kids in the years to come.

May God bless all of you with happiness and health now and in the years to come,

Emerson, four years two months cancer free and one happy grandpa to be!

If everyone can find time I want you to post if your race season is over or do you have some races to run yet... I can't find time to go to each individual log for everyone but would like to keep up with you.

Emerson - you are my inspiration in growing older yet younger at the same time....yeah...there is hope.

Jules - great to hear from you and I would like to join you on that beach for a tropical drink.

Dee - I still sympathize with your work situation...I don't know how you do it.

Eric - miss ya and hope to catch up with you in the fall...hopefully we will all find more time to chat with one another.

Pammy - how is your young life moving along, boyfriend, job, family etc...

My next race is in three weeks at Nashville, Olympic distance. I'm re-grouping from my horrible race last saturday and trying to move forward. My head just wasn't in that one and it showed.

Always Keep Tri-ing...

Hey Amy,

Things are going okay... my race season isn't over but starting to dwindle down.  I have a tri, 5K, and dual left.  As for the job... I am happy to report that I am/was off yesterday and today because I survived camp Monday-Wednesday with the clients.  Nice reward if you ask me.  As for boyfriend, that just keeps getting weirder and weirder and I wish I had a good answer there.  Why are boys so confusing???  Well that is all for me... everyone take care and I'll try to check back in sooner and actually start training again!

Hello Groupies! (Wait, that doesn't sound right... Um....)
Hello Mentor Group! (Yeah, that's better. )

Yes, I'm still working a lot, but it's definitely better than it was. (At least, right now, it is.) My workout time has definitely taken a hit, but I decided to go ahead and organize a September challenge, anyway. (If I'm in a challenge, I'm more likely to work out, since I don't want to let my team down.)

And... um, that's about it. (And no, Amy, I haven't gotten a bike yet! LOL)

Okay... yeah.. didn't make that very clear. What I mean is the boy is confusing me and it is getting weirder and weirder because for the first time I can see how much he really cares for me. He offered to fly me out to CA to visit him for two days that he has off during the tour. He rarely has time off and when he got some he wanted to spend it with me. Granted there was no notice here and it was impossible to work out... the idea that he wanted to spend that time with me really warms my heart big time. I just wish there was an easier way for us to be together right now.

Pam-glad to hear things are going well if confusing with the boy.  Life is never simple but its good that he s trying to find time to be with you.

Just finished Tri#8 for the season (HIM, 2 olympics, 5 sprints).  I've got 2 sprints and another HIM before the end of my season. Last race is Nov 1 the inaugural Beach 2 Battleship race in Wilmington, NC.  The kids just started their new soccer season yesterday and I'm helping coach 2 teams again so what little free time I had just disappeared until Halloween.  If I survive until after B2B HIM, I'll have some time to breath again.

Hope you're all having a good weekend.

Eric
