Life is too short and sweet to not have wellness as a cornerstone.  Just walk in to your local Walmart if you need a reminder and some motivation........

Wow, that's a great way to get some perspective. Scary stuff...

Thanks for the callout, it was a fun race and I can see why it is one of your favorites! Now to get the mud off the shoes...

Hey All...I'm baaaaaaaack!  We had a GREAT vacation but it's always good to get back home...plus, call me crazy, but I really miss my running.  Thank you for dropping by my blog ~ that made my night to log on and see that you stopped by!

Lara ~ I really hope you get well soon.  Like everyone else said, take it easy for a bit so you don't end up getting worse.

Katie ~ you got a trainer for Christmas too?  I've been thinking about it but just can't justify it to my hubby yet considering the weather here!  In my mind I can totally use it...afterall, it is rainy season.

Glad you had a great trip.  The trainer was kind of a gift to myself...the weather here makes it a necessity in my mind, but as you said you have a rainy season too

When is your 1st race this year?  January 3.  Next up is March 1, half marathon in Tampa (think warm weather!!!!)

What is your #1 obstical to training?  General Laziness.  Oh, and a tricky weak left ankle

What are you gonna do to overcome it?  Signing up for races and training with a group helps my laziness, ankle requires lots of balance and strength workouts.

First Race:   March 8-  Indoor Tri

#1 Obstacle: Balancing Training time with Family and running my business

I'm going to start taking the kids with me on the road when I run and bike as soon as the weather gets better for them. Until then get up earlier to get training done before work so I can spend after work time with the family.

Questions:

When is your 1st race this year? Shamrock Shuffle 3/29/09

What is your #1 obstical to training? PF and battling the cold

What are you gonna do to overcome it? Stretch, Ice, back off on the running a little bit and to battle the cold...accept that I will run outside when I can, and that my trainer and the treadmill are going to become my best friends for awhile.

On another note:  I am really struggling to find an early/middle season tri...I know we have several people from the Illinois area in this group...Any suggestions?  Also does anyone know of a good century ride?  The DH and I are trying to find something that we can do together.

1st race:  May 30, Issaquah Tri.  Looking for some 5K's to do before that.

#1 obstacle:  Scheduling around everyone else.

To overcome it:  Coordinate ahead of time so we all know what to expect.

My daughter got me a foot massager from Walgreens for Christmas.  I think it was on sale for $49.  It has done wonders for my PF.  Might we worth a try.

When is your 1st race this year?

The Aloha Run on Feb 16 ~ President's Day

What is your #1 obstical to training?

Time managment ~ having to work around Sam and Mike's schedule makes it hard for me to get out the door sometimes since I have to work out at night.

What are you gonna do to overcome it?

Suck it up!   This may be a lot more info than you want to hear but once Sam stops breastfeeding in the mornings I will work out then...I am so much more happy when I can work out early in the morning!

Can I add something else to my obstacle list since they are equally challenging for me?  Good, cuz I'm going to anyway!

Feeling the need for things to be perfect...let me explain:  I sometimes get an all or nothing mentallity which makes me not do things that I really want.  Take my swimming for instance...I want to be good at swimming and since I'm not, I just haven't been in the pool.  Stupid, I know but my justification to myself was that since I wasn't doing it correctly, why bother?  To overcome this I have decided that I will never get better if I don't try so swimming is one of my goals this month!!  I will get my arse in the pool at least once a week!

What I love a about this sport is it teaches/forces you to deal with the unexpected.  Few workouts and no race EVER goes completely as planned.  You have the right attitude.....onward!

I'm looking for a middle distance race to run in late March/ early April. I'm considering the Shamrock Shuffle in Chicago.  Those of you who have run it before, or live nearby, what can you tell me about it?  My wife and I would have to make a weekend out of it.  She does not fly and it's about a 5-5.5 hour drive to get there. Would it be worth the time and effort? We do love Chicago. Especially the theater district.

I have never run it before, but am doing it this year.  It is a BIG race (ie 32,500 runners). From what I hear that can make a PR difficult because of the shear number of people.  Despite that people come back year after year.

One of the great things about BT is the race data base.  I did a query on "Shamrock Shuffle" and found a tone of race reports from last year.  I posted one above.

Sounds like a race to do for the experience, not so much to test performance. At this stage that may be right where I am at in my training.  So it sounds like one I should do.  Maybe I'll see a few of you guys there?

How are we all doing today?  I managed to get to the gym this morning to make up a bike ride that I missed yesterday and then lifted.  Yeah, I know I should be riding outside but I really just wanted to kill two birds with one stone and get it all done at once.  I was hoping to get some swimming in today also but looks like it will have to wait until later this week.  I will swim this week!

I didn't get anything done today but I didn't have much planned anyway.

We spent most of the day in the car, delayed by weather going to and from Seattle.  Finally home and I might stretch while I watch football but that'll be about it.

Hi all-

Scott - Hopefully we will see you there in March!

Michelle -  Nice Job getting the workout done!  And you are right you will get in the pool this week!  And hopefully so will I

As for me I woke up not feeling great but packed my bag to go to work and head to the pool afterward and went to work, but after my meeting this morning I was dizzy and nauseous and felt like I had a fever.  I came home from work at noon and slept all afternoon and felt awful till about 8pm  Now I am feeling a little better and have managed to keep a pb&j down so hopefully I will be back on track for tomorrow. So no bike and no swim today and I am already behind on my training program and it is day 3.

That's actually not a bad strategy. Trying to fit in the swim/bike/run + some weight work gets to be a real time management exercise.
