I did T2 and finish line and loved them both. I recommend the transition area just because you get a really good feel for the organizational side of things - where to go, how things work, etc.

DB, we must have worked together.  I worked T2(and T1) also.  Pretty much the whole day.  I made it out to the finish line to watch the 11:59:00 time people coming in.

I did a water stop last year. I would have loved to be inside. I got fried.

I stayed away from this thread because I wasn't ready to start thinking about the race. But it's approaching and I'm mentally ready to start acknowledging that I signed up for an Ironman.

Training is going well. My company cut back my travel. It's the part of my job I really like but it turns out it's much easier to train consistently if you are not living in a hotel 2 weeks a month.

A group ride on the course would be great! I'm only an hour and 35-40 minutes from Madison and plan on getting down there several times.

Well, I'm finally getting the weight loss thing under control.  Down -8.4lbs in three weeks.  Only -84lbs left till September.  My base training is paying off.

Glad I'm not the only one trying to lose and train at the same time. I need to lose an additional 35-40 or so in addition to the huge amount I've already lost. I was hoping to start my training plan a little closer to my goal, but it's been a slow couple of months. My official training starts on Feb 2nd.

Congrats on the progress so far!

I'm in the same boat as both of you. I had a terrible fall, but sinus surgery really kicked my butt. Much more then I thought it would. No working out for close to 6 weeks coupled with bad eating and I'm back to the weight I was before I started Triathlon. I'm hoping to drop 35 pounds by the HIM I'm doing on June 19th (High Cliff if anyone cares) and another 10 or 15 before IMWI.

Happy Sunday all! Well, I have been out of the BT loop for awhile after IMFL. I finished IMFL but came in much slower then I wanted to. Everything was pretty good through mile 126 then the wheels fell off. In hind sight it appears that I was probably experiencing Hyponatremia. As a paramedic I should have know better but I did not stick to my nutrition like I should have and then became very ill and was not able to take in water and nutrition for the last 14 miles. After experiencing confusion, loss of body control, loss of temperature regulation, N/V, etc... I want to make damn sure I don't do that again. So, I was considering doing the salt pill thing this time just encase I am not taking in enough through my nutrition. Do any of you guys have experience using salt pills and if so what's your method. I am one of those heavy sweaters. After IMFL my black trisuit was completely white! I am definitely going to work on the nutrition thing as well but during training my routine worked great, I just couldn't stomach it on race day. Thanks for the help guys and good luck with your training.32 Weeks!!!!

My sweat rate is around 30oz. per hour and I took two Thermolytes every hour on the bike for a total of 7 and 4 tablets total on the run for a HIM.  At the time, my fuel was Accelerade on the bike and GE on the run.  For IMWI I am going to try to use Infinit on the bike with no salt and GE and salt tabs on the run.  I will be testing this during training this year.  I have done 75-80 mile rides on Infinit only with no issues.

Thanks for the feedback.  I did GE, PowerGel, and water for the race hoping to live off the course.  I trained with these all year and never really had a problem.  In the water and on the bike course we had a decent amount of wind which was giving me a bit of a hard time, plus I forgot my bike computer.  All of a sudden I found myself halfway through the bike and behind on my nutrition.  After that my stomach just had a tough time with it.  The run started out great, probably because I was thrilled to be off the bike.  However by mile 12 or so I just couldn't take anything in anymore which was the beginning of the end.

I have heard good things about Infinit and thought about trying that.  For the run, how much salt are you going to use in combo with the GE?

Two Thermolytes per hour. Three ounces GE and 3 oz. water per mile.  1 gel every 4-5 miles.  This is based on a 9:15 pace for a HIM run.  I will have to retest this for IM distance.  I should try to stay with course nutrition, but I am thinking of carrying my fuel belt with Infinit and forgoing the gels and just grab water at the aid stations.  I may even be able to ditch the salt tabs by using the Infinit.  It would be cool to do the whole race on liquid nutrition and carry some backup on my bike and in special needs in case I get a case of "flavor fatigue" and just want something solid. Believe me I have seen how your mind works after so many miles and hours out on the course!  You are not exactly thinking so clearly!  To make things simple would be a good thing indeed!  I tried a PayDay awhile back, but it didn't sit as well as I thought it would, so I will probably carry some Powerbar Harvest Bars.  They seem to work.

I'm not the biggest salt sweater but I did well with perpetuem, GE and hammer endurolytes on the bike and GE/endurolytes on the run. Started taking one pill an hour beginning on the bike and I felt like it worked. I think I'm going to try salt stick this year and see how I like that since it seems like I get some stomach pains after taking endurolytes now. Didn't happen at ironman but in shorter races after ironman...

Libby,

You might look into Thermolyte brand salt tablets.  A nutritionist I contracted with for my first HIM said that they seemed to work the best in terms of reducing GI issues.  I don't know because they are the only ones I have used, but I didn't have any issues.  Ask around.  Is that you surfing?  Cool shot!

Did you select your own InfinIT setup or use their own canned blend?

greg- thanks for that, I've never heard of them. I'll have to check that one out and try it out this year.   I liked how salt stick has that cool dispenser b/c the endurolyte pills got soaked and disintegrated into a disgusting mess during IMCDA.

I use the IM canned formula.  I'm not smart enough to try and come up with my own.  I try to keep things simple in life as much as I can.

Well, I decided to try drinking the Newton Kool-Aid.  Just ordered my first pair online.  I have worked hard over the past year to become a mid/fore foot striker and have all but gotten rid of my knee and hip pain.  I was considering all the minimalist/racing flat shoes and decided I would take advantage of the 30 day return policy and see what all the fuss is about.  Plus if you wear the shoe it automatically gives you a 2:45 IronMary right?

After being sedentary for 2 months following IMFL I started running.  It felt great to get out again. Put in some nice 4, 6, and 8 milers.  Everything went smoothly, and although I have put on 15-20 pounds in 2 months I was able to maintain a respectable pace.  Now I just need to start chopping away at that weight again.

Happy Tuesday!

I was also at T2 for much of the afternoon, although a little disheartening to watch some of those bikers hobble thru with a marathon to go. I also volunteered at IMLP in '08 as a bike catcher. It rained all day and was a muddy mess (racks were set up in the grass). Next time I would definitely want to be at the finish line. Very inspirational to see those finishers during the last hours.
