Would someone mind walking me through T1 and T2.  I've only ever done sprints and an oly.  This is my first longer distance tri, and I hear the transitions are quite different.

Thanks a bunch!

Except for assigned spots and wetsuit strippers, I don't believe there are really any differences on the Transitions but hopefully one of those who have done NOLA can chip in.

NOLO in 2009 was my 1st 70.3 distance race and from what I understood it was the largest field to ever do the Ironman distance with almost 3000 competitors.  I was a bit intimidated, but things were very simular to your Oly distances.  The one thing that did stand out for me @ T1 was that of course there were SO many bikes out there, be sure to know what direction to get to your bike from the swim exit.  I use a small American Flag to pinpoint mine and usually some of the people around me thank me for it after the race.  I'm pretty proficient at taking off my wetsuit with speed so I didn't feel the need to have the volunteers help me out of it coming out of the swim,,,your choice of course.  Transition area last year was huge and I lucked out and my rack was close to bike exit so I didn't have far to run with the bike going out or back in so keep that in mind.

T2, no big deal, nothing to much different than your normal sprint or Oly, I did utilize the many porta potties they had positioned inside the Transition area to tinkle and since there was no waiting it only took less than a minute, I could run much better on an empty bladder.  There is really not too much difference from your sprint/oly distances so just go out there and have some fun.

Cheers

As stated above not much different in T1 and T2 except the size of transition. Real good idea to look at the layout of transition before the race. No where to enter and exit and how to find your spot on the rack. I usually try to use a towel with bright colors to help locate my bike.

April is here finally!!   I'm getting anxious now.   I plan on taking full advantage of the 82 degrees of pure sunshine to get in some good training.

16 days and a wake up left !!!!

Cheers

I'm packing my bike up tomorrow to ship down at that kind of makes it real - especially as the weather up here has only allowed for one outside ride this year!

I have a question about aid stations on the run.  It says water - but do they also have gatorade and gels. It only mentions them on the bike. I can't run 13.1 miles on water alone so need to know if I need to find a way to carry them
thanks

Shipping your bike now? What will you ride in the next two weeks? Glad I live within driving distance.

I re-read my race report.  I know they had Gatorade on the course.  I'm not sure about gels.  I carry my own GU on the run.  But, I would imagine they had gels and other nutrition on the run.

in low 60's upper 50's, pollution factor looks scary!

As for on the run I am pretty sure they will have gatorade, etc on the run ( will find the quote).

Quote from NOLA IM site:
Water stations on the 13.1 mile run course will offer new items for 2010 as well. Water station locations will be located at every mile and they will offer, ice, sponges, water, Gatorade Endurance Formula, Soft Drinks and portable restrooms. Powerbars and Powergels will also be available at every location on the run course.

I must have been looking on the wrong page - weird cos it described it all by swim, bike run.  Anyway thanks

And yes I have to ship my bike now cos it's got to get down to bicycle world by next Friday and I'm doing ups.  Luckily I have a road bike to ride in the interim

It's getting really close now

So I did my first run today in any kind of real heat (only 80 degrees F), and I felt like I was dying.  I was pouring water over myself and drinking water like crazy.  My 2 hour run felt like death until the last 30 min when the sun went down and I felt oh so much better.  I'm kinda worried now that I'm going to suck on race day in the heat.  We've just now started getting really warm weather so I just feel unprepared.  I'm sure some of you are training in much colder places than AL, so what are you guys doing to prepare for the heat?

Same here, only a shorter run.  Even though I have been in the south for 6 yrs I am not a great warm weather runner.

Sorry, I guess I mis-read the entry.

Oh well, will be fun and if the water temps stay in the low-mid 60's I will be happy.
