OK,

one more post and then I'll stop hogging the board.

Had my first clipless pedal fall today. Did the classic unclip one side and got tipping the other way. Not only did I fall, but ended up on my azz with both legs sticking up the air. Not sure how they got there since the reason I fell in the first place was that my foot was stuck. I would have at least liked to look kind of cool falling, sigh.

Good news is I was in downtown Chicago so a bunch of people saw me. So that's cool.

But I DID remember (about halfway over in my slow motion pratfall) somebody on here saying to kind of roll and take it on your back. Which I did and I'm none the worse for wear. So thanks for sharing. It saved me from a broken wrist or something!

Happy Sunday. Q

OK so another weekend gone and I got nothing done but eating!  We had my son's first birthday party friday night, then errands and a soccer game saturday morning and afternoon, then more errands, then bowling with friends last night.  Today a baby shower for a family member... got home thinking I may go for a run, but husband hands off the baby and says he has to get yard work done before the sun goes down.  Now the sun is down and he is out for a run!!  and I am sitting here with a glass of red wine.  Oh well... Going to get out and run tomorrow, swim tues, bike on trainer tues, and run wed (or so I plan)

Good to see all the great runs you guys are getting in.  I have to catch up with posts, but for now I am going to sit and enjoy the wine since I didn't get to sit all weekend.

Hi all -- Sounds like a good weekend for us...both racing and just living! I noticed that several of you have your week's plan. Good idea. If you don't have goals for the week, let's all set some.

As for me, 3 runs (one tempo, one interval or track, and one longer), core strength class, 2 bikes and 2 to 3 swims, including a coached session. Whew--tired already.   And, do it all with a positive attitude.

Anyone else?

As expected, I got nothing training related done.  We had an open house (trying to sell this albatross) and then another showing in the evening so between cleaning and having to be elsewhere for three hours my day kind of got eaten up.

Tomorrow I have a long run (7 miles) scheduled then I'll do spin class on Tuesday.  Beyond that I'm not positive but probably a couple shorter runs, one interval swim and one long swim then maybe another spin class or an outdoor ride with the trailer depending on the weather.

Okay, gonna check in with my own training before I get back to some of the posts--I need to stay motivated and accountable, too!

What I did right this week: LOTS of run training, did work out regularly, made sure my dogs worked out regularly (because EVERYBODY will be miserable if they don't). They did a 19-minute OWS with me in the ocean and a 20-minute soft-sand run on Sunday. I am so incredibly proud of them!!!

What I needed to improve on: didn't get ONE BIKE in. Whoops. Oh. Forgot to LOG all my training so have no idea when I did what or how much. Whoops.

Ha. I was feeling so guilty about not biking all last week that I rode tonight. AND led a pack of motorcycles for a while. That was fun.

Before I forget ... CHITOWNERS ... I have a good friend there who is an amazing triathlete, a man about town here on BT, and he's agreed to help you guys out if you want help of the hands-on variety. No, not THAT kind of hands-on. Ha. I mean local stuff, or stuff he can actually be there for ... or ... whatever you can think of. It would be fun to torture him. He needs it.

Subject: RE: Question for the Mentors...and everyone :-)
quincyf - 2010-04-12 2:28 AM I've been mulling this over and hoping to get some input. I have pretty much ended up with not only triathlon events, but running events as well, and I went and joined this women's cycling team, so I know I am going to end up doing straight biking as well. So I am wondering how much of my general aerobic fitness will carry between events. IOW, is it ok to drop some running if I am biking like crazy one week, etc? Will that time on the bike sort of translate into run time or do I need to do a full running program prepping for a race and pile the other two on top to try to keep the tri training going? I really like biking because it seems to give me a killer workout without quite the wear and tear of running. I would swim more, but I am having to keep the volume down a bit because I am fighting a mild case of swimmer's shoulder in my right arm. I realize I am going to have to pretty much use some of my events as training and I do have A and B races picked out. I guess I am just looking for some sage advice in general. Especially for later in the season when my Marathon training kicks in...I am thinking I am not going to want to sub much of the running once I am in the thick of that... WDYT?

It depends on what your A and B races are. That is, what are your MAIN priorities and goals? Yes, AEROBIC fitness translates just fine from discipline to discipline ... but MUSCULAR memory fitness and MUSCULAR endurance does not.

Look, I'm crazy, and generally do stuff people say can't (or shouldn't) be done, and they're probably right on the shouldn't. However, I think what you want is doable. You are already handling a pretty decent training volume and if you PLAN and TRAIN smart, you can do it. You just can't have it all--you can't expect to RACE and PERFORM at each of the events (and you already said as much, that some of them would be training days).

If you can give me, as exactly as possible, dates and distances of everything you want to do, and ESPECIALLY what your A and B race are, I can give you a much better idea of how you might go about safely and wisely fitting it all in and what you can expect.

Q -- My experience this week is that even though I had put in long bike time this month (a three hour ride and a four hour ride), that didn't quite translate into the same as a 2 hour run as far as my fitness for the race on Saturday was concerned.  I wasn't entirely unprepared for the race, but I wasn't as prepared as I could have been if I had had a higher running mileage training.  It's always so hard to find the balance!  But I think it is doable as long as you don't skimp on run too much (and especially if you have soft goals as far as time).

Ended up with a second rest day today, which is probably best.  I generally need a day to recover for the weekend, and perhaps need to stop kiddng myself that I will exercise on Mondays!  My bootcamp is cancelled this week, so I will swim T-Th, run W-F, and do my first mini BRIC on Sat in the form of a 1hr spin class followed by running to the soccer fields to meet my family for soccer practice.  If things go as I hope, I will also do my first OWS on Wed evening.  ack!

Ryan, you're making me very upset because you don't have your BT log set up and therefore I can't link it in our team table, which means we can't stalk you and also leave nice inspires from time to time.

I get wery angwy when people block my impending niceness.

Ask if you need any help setting it up.

You're in luck anyway because I'm pretty sure I'm screwing up the team table anyway and half the links probably don't work. However, I do want to get it done at some point in the near future. Functional would be even better.

Wait--we're actually 13 now with Karen, aren't we? If you're missing from this list, let me know.

Also, I'll post instrux on how to set up your training (life, blog, whatever) log for Ryan and Kerry. In a bit. I am at a cafe that has a speedy internet connection, but it's closing so I gotta go home where the internet connection is abysmally slow. Kinda like me. Heh.

And by the way, that's not the final table--links are all screwy and all sorts of stuff, just see if your name is missing from the list.

Nope. I think there's a setting in Settings (the top leftmost icon on your screen, the wrench) where you make your log available to (the whole Web, just BT, just friends on BT, private) whomever you wish ... you may need to go there and click or unclick something.

You'll see it worked if, when you post, a little Logs icon appears in the bottom row of buttons on your post (like it does mine).

Thanks Yanti.  I have been really lazy and that I have slacked off quite a bit so thanks for the "pick-me-up."  I hope to get back into the groove here this week.  I need to decide on what other races that I want to do since that always helps motivate me work work out more consistently.

Just uploaded a couple of photos from this year.  Was inspired by Yanti's puppy pics in her log.  Also, put in a photo of the 2010 Little Rock Marathon finisher's medal.  Check out the info on this thing:

The 2010 Little Rock Marathon finisher’s medal is 7 3/4 inches long and 6 inches wide. The medal features the 2010 “It’s a Natural” theme and weighs in at a 1.67 pounds.

The thing is so tacky, but it's my first and I shall love it forever.  Funny story: my friend that ran with me dropper hers on her foot the next day...almost broke her foot.  What a story - survive you first marathon and break your foot with the medal.

I have *got* to do Little Rock

"it's my first and I shall love it forever" this is exactly why marathons are better than boyfriends.

I do cling to the mementos of my first marathon. In fact, I had it tattoo'ed on my ankle.

I've always said that the only tatoo I could get would be the mdot.  If I was tough enough to do an IM, surly I would be able to handle a tatoo.  I'm a biggo chicken when it comes to tatoos though...but I'm glued to LA Ink anytime it's on tv.  Crazy.
