I had some really good gluten-free brownies over the weekend. You call them "gluten-free" but they really were "hash", weren't they? Were they homemade? Im gonna have a cook up this weekend I think and see what I can come up with! Yes, they were homemade. (No, I didn't make them. I'm much better with tasers than I am with kitchen utensils.) It was a gluten-free brownie mix. Very easy -- just add eggs, a small amount of oil, and mix. Put them into a pan and bake. Let them cool (for as long as you're willing to wait), and eat! |

So I guess they're not selling it halfway across the world. What about larger supermarkets? Maybe ask them if they have a gluten-free section? That's what I did. In my case, they didn't have a section, but they said their website has a list of their gluten-free products. BTW, I ate crackers last week. It's the first time in about a year that I had gluten. THAT'S when I found out that I'm MUCH better off without the gluten. Bleh, I was incredibly sick last week. It's not worth the gluten to feel like that..... |

And brownies. You could try a Google search for "Gluten free Australia" or "Gluten free recipes." There's lots of stuff out there. Are they thinking you have Celiac disease, or a gluten sensitivity?mchally - 2010-11-30 6:19 AM kaqphin - 2010-11-28 4:41 PM Jen/Mel/Dee/Anyone.... can someone talk to me about Gluten Free eating please? it is hard to eliminate gluten from your diet, but for many people, including myself, the reward for doing so far exceeds the nuisance. uhhh, what in particular? If you are considering going gluten free start by just avoiding anything that has wheat flour in it. (also barley, rye, spelt, kamut, and triticale) in you are serious about it they you would look into products that may contain hidden forms of gluten...natural flavors, natural colors, caramel color, modified food starch, malt extract...and determine which foods are gluten free. I know of a few Australian gluten free companies...Orgran is one. I can get you more info in a bit. I've got to run for now....I need to get my entire storage unit emptied today! Lots of moving of stuff. I will get back to you later. Thanks Mel - yeah the supermarket here has a bunch of stuff in the health food section - but pricey! I would kill to find bread that doesnt need to be toasted to be palatable! Sensitivity rather than full blown Celiac... its an immune response (Celiac disease and gluten intolerance) so from what I can tell there is a pretty clear link between that and what I have in some cases so its worth giving it a go! Its now day 3 of eating pretty restricted and I dont know if its helping.... with gluten free from what Ive read you should notice the effects in the first week... Hey Cat, I missed this earlier. I can tell you that it took about two weeks of low gluten/no gluten before I noticed a difference. Sorry if this is TMI, but it was mostly a gas/bloating difference that I noticed right away. I stopped eating gluten totally for a few months and now I've started eating gluten again, just not nearly as much as before. |

It took awhile, but then I realized I felt a lot better without it. This time of the year though.... well, I've been eating small amounts of stuff like cake. |

I made these YUMMY gluten free cupcakes last weekend... they are so good even S come back for seconds and thirds! Its just a raw mix in a packet you add butter and eggs to... So Im feeling pretty good on the cake front!!! Oh and yes the kidney HURTS!!! Woke me up yesterday morning which is when I realised i needed to do something about it... but when you are use to being in pain and feeling nausea and having a fever off and on anyway its really easy to just assume its part of the tummy thing....
